December 31, 2009

Happy New Year to everyone. Let's hope it's a good one!

11am
It's been a slow day so far. Woke up at 5am & saw the fireworks in Sydney, shown on our local news. Quite a spectacle. They always put on a grand show there.
Talked my mom into visiting her friend Gerda in the hospital. We'll go after lunch, & also make a quick stop at Betty's.
I just paid all the bills online for the next month, as my mom's deposit was a couple days early for the holiday. Glad that is out of the way!
Going to do my exercises before lunch. I read quite a few chapters in Torchwood Border Princes before bed last night. I didn't want to stop! Will read 1 on the exercycle.

Adorable kitten vid, shared by a friend on Twitter:

John Barrowman took time out of his busy day to share these vids with fans:

4pm
Finally home from our visits. Gerda hasn't changed! Still loud & bossy, but a great person. Hope she heals up soon & goes home. And, the visit with Betty is always nice. We are starting to make plans for our big yard sale & will be going out to eat with her next month some time.
Jorgy is happy to have her space heater back on. She was not happy we were gone so long!
Got some free samples in the mail that I sent for. Green tea, Kashi granola bar & some calendula seeds for the garden.
I did work on my exercycle before we left earlier, but didn't get a chance to put down the numbers here: 16.7 mph for 2.7 miles & 9.14 minutes, burning 133 calories.
~~~~~~~~~~
6pm
I came to an annoying realization while I was eating dinner ... Monday is the 4th ... I have to go back to work. Waaaah.
I'm really getting beyond annoyed with the wireless connection on my laptop. Too damn slow the past few days.
Found a couple of local hauling businesses that will take the mattress set & fridge away. So, if I can't get rid of them by the end of next week through Freecycle, I will call these places & get an estimate.
~~~~~~~~~~
7pm
Oh, a Thin Man movie is on! Love those movies!
Tonight's quote is from After The Thin Man:

Nick Charles: Have you made any New Year's resolutions?
Nora Charles: Not yet. Any complaints or suggestions?
Nick Charles: A few.
Nora Charles: Which?
Nick Charles: Complaints.
Nora Charles: All right shoot.
Nick Charles: Well, you don't scold, you don't nag, and you look far too pretty in the mornings.
Nora Charles: All right, I'll remember: must scold, must nag, musn't be too pretty in the mornings.

December 30, 2009

8am
Well, I did sleep last night, but woke up at 6. So, not bad. I started reading Torchwood Border Princes, chapter 1 last night. Will read more later on the exercycle.
I'm hurting quite a bit, so using my cane today.
My wireless connection on the laptop is really acting up. I rebooted the modem & router this morning & got the connection back that I lost last night, but it is still running slow.
Mail doesn't want to download right, graphics are loading really slowly on websites ... Twitter is loading slow ...
~~~~~~~~~~
11am
The lady came & got her speakers, then my mom & I went to pick up some Rx & then the grocery store.
I'm trying so hard not to have a headache ...
I got a refund for $87 for overpayment from the Title company, which is nice.
Still having trouble with my wireless connection ... waaaaay to slow. I can't get anything done. I haven't even been able to check my Twitter stream at all today, yet ... guess I'll turn on the XP computer.
~~~~~~~~~~
11:30am
Just got a surprise call from someone we haven't heard from in MANY years. The son of my mom's best friend. To tell us she fell & broke her ankle & is in a local nursing home until it heals. May go visit soon.
~~~~~~~~~~
2pm
I am getting a migraine. Crap.
I really need to do my exercises!
~~~~~~~~~~
3:30pm
Just did my chair exercises, counter push-ups & exercycle! Yay me! Travelled 16.3 mph for 3.9 miles & 13.55 minutes, burning 188 calories & read 1 chapter of Torchwood Border Princes.
~~~~~~~~~
8pm
Glee is on. Two episodes tonight!
Sorry, no quote tonight.
December 29, 2009
7am
Well, I did get some sleep last night, but I've been up since 5am ... couldn't fall back to sleep.
Very nervous about today. I hope I am able to help Curtis get all the furniture up the steps.
Found some fun videos this morning:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5XX9LX2es4 - couldn't embed this one as the uploader disabled this function for some reason.
For those who don't know, Bernard Cribbins plays Donna Noble's grandfather, Wilfred Mott, on Doctor Who. He was also in John Barrowman's first West End play, Anything Goes (the one where Elaine Paige 'discovered' him.)
Speaking of John Barrowman, he narrates this little gem:
Sad to read that John Barrowman has a chest infection and was unable to work today in his Robin Hood panto in Cardiff. Hope he recovers quickly!!
~~~~~~~~~~
8am
Oh, no. Lost track of time! Watching a Buster Keaton silent movie. I've got to eat something before Curtis gets here & feed the critters!
~~~~~~~~~~~
9am
Not having good luck with the hex tank survival rate. Only 2 angel fish left. Found a dead ghost shrimp at feeding time & can't find the other one ... bummer. At this rate, we'll be cleaning the tank out & just getting more gold fish next month. :(
~~~~~~~~~~
10:30am
STILL waiting for my cousin! Why is it so hard for people to be on time? He's less than 30 minutes away ... I am so stressed.
~~~~~~~~~~
3pm
I'm exhausted! But, we got the paid storage emptied!!! Luckily, neither of us fell or tripped or got hurt at all. Almost dropped the old 1920s icebox down the steps, but I slowed it's descent. It slipped out of the dolly belt as it was being pulled up. Luckily, it was the last thing to unload. Curtis was tired & tied it on wrong. Need to vacuum the couch & wipe down the recliner to get all the dust off them. Can't wait to start using the old stereo, too!
Curtis is going to try to come by next week to try to figure out how to fix the pick-up so it will pass smog, but in the mean time I have to get another extension or a non-op since the last one expires 12/31.
~~~~~~~~~~
7pm
Found a home for an old set of computer speakers (from my first computer, a Win95, but they work on my Vista laptop, so they are good to go) to someone on the local Freecycle who wanted a set. She's picking them up in the morning. Meeting her by the park office.
Have a couple things I will be posting to Freecycle this weekend - queen-size mattress & boxspring & a working fridge (I have 3 now!)
~~~~~~~~~~
8pm
I got a download of Caricature Studio & darn thing won't work. Bummer. I wanted to play with it! I'll try it again tomorrow.
I finished Torchwood Another Life last night. I couldn't wait to get to the end! Thrilling story. I'll start on Torchwood Border Princes tonight. I've decided to try to read a chapter each night before bed as well as when I work on the exercycle. I'll get through the books faster that way.
~~~~~~~~~~
8:30pm
Hmmm. Has Twitter crashed? Keep getting the "problem loading page" thingie. Will wait a bit & see what happens ... been trying for 10 minutes so far.
~~~~~~~~~~
9pm
Well, it wasn't Twitter that crashed. It was my wireless connection on the laptop. Will fix it tomorrow. Going to bed now. Tooo tired. I should sleep good tonight.
Sorry, no quote tonight. Too tired to look for a good one.
December 28, 2009
9:30am
I'm sooo tired. Didn't sleep at all last night. And, I'm already worn out. Had to break down all the boxes we emptied yesterday. Then, had to haul a house mouse that I trapped last night (finally!) out to a rural area & release it. Just got back. Have so much to do today, but so tired.
~~~~~~~~~~
10am
Got my ride on my exercycle done & one chapter read of Torchwood Another Life. Only 3 chapters to go! I travelled 17.4 mph for 2.6 miles & 11.35 minutes & burned 173 calories. I also did my chair exercises.
~~~~~~~~~~
11am
I straightened up my room & got a lot of stuff (mostly jewelry boxes I need to go through) up off the floor. It was getting way too cluttered in there. Going to vacuum in a few minutes.
My mom moved the window seat into her room, so there will be room next to my office for the big recliner & the console stereo tomorrow. Need to vacuum that area, too.
~~~~~~~~~~
1pm
Well, I vacuumed 3 big rooms & straightened up some clutter. Not doing anything else physical today. I have big furniture to move tomorrow ... I'm dreading it.
Anyone want an older working fridge or a queen-size mattress & box spring? I have extras & no place to really put them. Will have to list them with the local freecycle if Curtis doesn't know anyone who needs them.
Time to make some scans & take some pics for my Etsy shop.
~~~~~~~~~~
3pm
Still awake! Listed a couple more Avon decanters. Researching some old books, now.
~~~~~~~~~~
5pm
Got another book listed on Etsy. That's enough for today. Gotta rest up for tomorrow's busy day.
~~~~~~~~~~
6:30pm
I think I am going to go to my bed very early tonight, since I didn't sleep last night. I might try to finish reading the last 3 chapters in my book so I can start on Torchwood Border Princes tomorrow.
December 27, 2009
10am
I still feel like I am dragging today. But, I've done a load of laundry & cleaned/fed the critters already. We'll be straightening up all the bins in the future craft room to make sure there is room for the big table/chairs when the rest of the furniture gets here on Tuesday.
~~~~~~~~~~
noon
Nice to see a little organization in the craft room. There is now plenty of room for the table & chairs. Now just have to break down all the cardboard boxes I emptied. Everything is in the plastic bins now. Must eat something!
~~~~~~~~~~
1pm
I only had some Greek yogurt for lunch. Sores in my mouth again; just don't want to eat. Will make an Ensure protein shake in a bit, I think. I'd never tried Greek yogurt before, but really like it. It's thick & creamy like La Creme brand, which I can't find anymore. I had vanilla/cinnamon/orange flavor.
Need to sort through some old books, now.
~~~~~~~~~~
2pm
Fixed all the flickering flourescent ceiling lights. I guess over the years, they'd vibrated enough to slip in their sockets & not have a good connection. Got all of them back into the sockets, but one is still buzzing a bit. Can't wait until I can completely replace the fixtures next year. I hate those strips. They remind me of a store ...
Frustrated that I can't do anything in my PCStitch 4. It is just not working right. I have made some very pretty patterns in the past. I'd love to remake my Walden Pond pattern as one of my kits, but guess it will have to wait until I have a current version of the program.  :(
~~~~~~~~~~
3pm
Got most of my exercises done. Read another chapter of Torchwood Another Life on the exercycle. I travelled 19.1 mph for 4.1 miles & 12.40 minutes, burning 199 calories. I've also done 5 counter push-ups & my low-impact chair exercises.
~~~~~~~~~~
5pm
Need to find a .pdf creator that is not Adobe Acrobat ... for another part of my cross-stitch venture ... just can't find one I like, yet.
I need to price a laminator, too ... hmmmmm ... ah, good old Avery. They have laminating sheets that don't require a laminator. 50 for $20. That will work perfectly for what I want to do! Next time I service the Office Max in Davis, I will get a pack.

December 26, 2009

noon
I've been busy this morning. I got a pick-up load of stuff from the paid storage. We've got the pick-up about half emptied now. My fingers were starting to hurt too much from the cold, though, so we came in to warm up a bit. I got the rest of the boxes. They are mostly car parts, old car radios & such. All that's left in the storage is the heavy furniture, fridge, set of mattresses. Stuff I can't move by myself. I reserved the moving truck for next Tuesday. Hopefully, we can get a hold of Curtis today to let him know.
Going to eat some lunch & finish emptying the pick-up & cover up the parts under the carport since it is supposed to rain tonight. Got all the radios locked in the shed already.
~~~~~~~~~~
2:30pm
Yay! Finally got a hold of my cousin Curtis & he will help with emptying the storage out on Tuesday! No late fees!
My mom & I finished unloading the pick-up & I tarped all the car parts under the carport.
Now to work on seeing if my cross-stitch software will still work & if it will work on Vista.
~~~~~~~~~~
4pm
Well, I got my old PC Stitch 4 loaded to all three computers & I can't upgrade as it is too old!  Arrrgh! So, now I have to wait a few months to try to buy the newest version that I really want. It is PC Stitch Pro 9. It's about $80.  Bummer. But, I can still make some basic pattern images. Will play around with it some tomorrow.
Too tired to do much else today, other than play online. I don't even have the energy to list anything on Etsy ... :(
~~~~~~~~~~
8pm
I'm really dragging this evening. I'm probably going to miss Doctor Who tonight ...
A poem for the night:
Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein
There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.
Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.
Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.
December 25, 2009
Noon
I hope that you've all started your holiday with a bang & got everything you wanted.
We're having a pretty much normal day for us, but have the lights turned on all day on the tree. We already had enough 'presents' with getting a home & fish & doves ...
I already did a thorough cleaning of the doves cage & vaccuumed the room they are in.
I also tried out a Pumie heavy-duty scouring stick on my toilet bowl & love it! Got all the hard water mineral & lime build-up that made the bowl look yellowed & encrusted. It's nice & white like it's supposed to be, now. I really didn't want to replace the darn thing. I'm going to get one of those for my mom's, too. And, keep a couple handy for up-keep.
Had a grilled cheese sandwich & chips for lunch. We're going to have rotisseried duck legs, cranberry dressing, baked sweet potatoes & rolls for dinner. And some kind of pie.
I'm going to ride the exercycle for a bit and read at least one chapter of Torchwood Another Life now. Already did my low-impact chair exercises earlier. Really need to start doing more with the Ab-doer, the resistance bands & the floor exercises.
~~~~~~~~~~
1pm
Wow! My best session yet! I travelled on the exercycle at 17.6 mph for 5.8 miles & 18.41 minutes & burned a whopping 280 calories! And, I read TWO chapters. I actually started sweating a bit!
Now to start working on my Etsy shop. Need to take pics of the decanters & list them. Listened to 2 old Christmas cassettes: Bing Crosby's White Christmas & Glenn Miller Orchestra's In The Christmas Mood.
~~~~~~~~~~
3pm
Can't believe it's already that time! I got the 2 Avon decanters listed & also an old gold charm that was my aunt Juanita's. Looking for something else to list now. Maybe another book ...
~~~~~~~~~~
6pm
Listed another old book, a 1932 business encyclopedia.
Dinner was very good. I'm stuffed!
~~~~~~~~~~~
7pm
I'm getting a bit mixed up in my research ... according to USPS, you can't ship aftershave ... yet there are MANY listings on ebay of old Avon decanters being sold WITH the aftershave in them. I have several I want to list on Etsy that still have aftershave (never opened.) Must research more ... tomorrow ...
December 24, 2009
Just a quick post tonight to wish everyone a wonderful holiday tomorrow. Didn't do much today other than go to the grocery store with my mom and somehow became about $350.00 poorer ... how does that happen?!
Added another listing to my Etsy store, too.
December 23, 2009
8pm
It's been a long day, so this is a short post tonight.
Did a 'work-with' with my manager, Viola, today. We serviced 2 of my stores together. We do this every couple of months or so. She treated me to Subway. Nice.
Got home and tried to clean off the rotisserie that my mom messed up a couple weeks ago. She melted the insulated gloves on it & I've been trying to scrape the rubber off ever since. Finally got most of it off, the rest will just have to "burn" off & stink the house up.
I got my Etsy shop up and running and have listed my first vintage item, a 1939 Buick Owner's Manual. Excited to list many more things soon!
Ooh, 2 episodes of Glee on now!!
Tonight's quote:
December 22, 2009
3pm
I've had the blahs since I got home today. Don't feel like doing anything!
I did have a nice surprise on the doorstep when I got home, though. A gift from our realtor, Becky. Pepperidge Farms Milano cookies, which are yummy. I've never had them. And, a bottle of wine. We don't drink, so we'll re-gift it to an old friend who I know does drink wine.
~~~~~~~~~~
6pm
I finally joined Etsy!! I'm excited! I like the set up much more than the current eBay; it will get me motivated to finally start my cross-stitch business in the coming year. But, first I am going to use it to sell all this antique stuff I've inherited! I'll be spending the next few days setting up my storefront; figuring out my policies, etc. By the first of the new year, I will be selling! The address is http://quingem.etsy.com The name is QuinGem's Creations & Collectibles.
~~~~~~~~~~
7pm
Still need to do my exercises & read a chapter of  Torchwood Another Life ... going to finish my cinnamon crunch applesauce first.
Did 5 counter push-ups & my low impact chair exercises.
Exercycle: travelled at 17.9 mph for 4.2 miles and 13.49 minutes, burning 202 calories! Very good.
~~~~~~~~~~
Tonight's poem:
Imagination by Robert William Service

A gaunt and hoary slab of stone
I found in desert place,
And wondered why it lay alone
In that abandoned place.
Said I: 'Maybe a Palace stood
Where now the lizards crawl,
With courts of musky quietude
And turrets tall.

Maybe where low the vultures wing
'Mid mosque and minaret,
The proud pavilion of a King
Was luminously set.
'Mid fairy fountains, alcoves dim,
Upon a garnet throne
He ruled,--and now all trace of him
Is just this stone.

Ah well, I've done with wandering,
But from a blousy bar
I see with drunk imagining
A Palace like a star.
I build it up from one grey stone
With gardens hanging high,
And dream . . . Long, long ere Babylon
It's King was I.

December 21, 2009

7am
I haven't mentioned this, but I'm going to now! I hate the ads on LiveJournal & anyplace else that block entrance to a page. I guess they are the new version of pop-up ads that pop-up blockers don't block! You can't escape them for at least 4 seconds most of the time. Very annoying! Oh, and those stupid little Bing boxes that pop-up when you're trying to read an article. Hate those damn things, too!
~~~~~~~~~~
Noon
Christmas message from John Barrowman! He's so sweet to take the time to send a message to fans like this. Charlie, CJ & Harris are so gorgeous & laid back! I can't wait until the new album is ready in Feb.!
~~~~~~~~~~
I just can't get enough of this cute scene from Glee:

~~~~~~~~~~
1pm
I remembered to buy aquarium salt & meds for the fishies. Just gave it to them. They were not thrilled that I was not dropping food into the water! Took the carbon filter out for the duration of their treatment, which should be until the weekend.
I really need to eat something ...
My mom is so clueless ... What part of "can't eat anything with corn" doesn't she understand?!! "I'm having popcorn. Want some?" Corn, popcorn= no difference!! Arrgh!!
Having Cracked Pepper & Olive Oil Triscuit with Affi's Artichoke Spread. Last box of Triscuit I will have as it contains maltodextrin which can be a corn product ... corn is very pervasive ... it's everywhere ... And, no, I'm not eating the whole box, just a normal serving--about 6 crackers.
~~~~~~~~~~
2pm
Found some actual oyster shell gravel for the doves. Going to mix it with the sand gravel we bought before. I prefer the oyster shell for the bigger birds.
That's done.
And ... I cleaned out the big old wooden box on the porch & put the 30lbs. walnut shell, 25 lbs. dove's food & 15 lbs. wild bird food in it. Still some room in it. It's a big box. Don't know how old it is. But, in the spring, I'm going to change the hardware on it (hinges & add a clasp/hasp & lock, & paint it the color we decide to paint the mobile home & shed. Gotta match! Now, to get the stuff together to clean the shower real good.
~~~~~~~~~~
3pm
My mom finally found my grandma's cup/saucer collection in one of the bins from storage I brought home the other day. Now, she can quit complaining that she hasn't found them!
We're having pork roast & almond rice pilaf for dinner. And, maybe a banana or some applesauce. Nope, looks like the last Mandarin oranges. Good. Need to get more of those.
Can't get motivated to clean the shower yet! Less than an hour to get it done ... I better get with it soon ...
Waiting for Terror By Night to start on MoviePlex channel at 3:30. Love Basil Rathbone's Sherlock.
I just sprayed the whole shower with Arm & Hammer Scrub Free with Oxy. Will rinse it off on the next commercial. I need to soak the shower head in vinegar afterwards, too. Oh, wait ... this channel doesn't have commercials!! Oh, well ...
~~~~~~~~~~
5pm
Sherlock Holmes was much fun.
Just checked my shower & the Scrub Free doesn't work on my crappy old shower. Have rinsed it off & sprayed Arm & Hammer Clean Shower.  Will check on that after dinner ... May have to resort to good old fashioned baking soda & vinegar & scrubbing - but that will have to be for tomorrow.
~~~~~~~~~~
6pm
I am contemplating replacing my whole shower ... it will have to be in a future remodel, though, as I know I can't do it this time. I discovered where it leaks & will have to see if I can fix it with LOTS of caulking ... that is a project for the weekend, I think. Tomorrow, I have to scrub by hand. I hate plastic showers & bathtubs. So hard to keep clean, especially if it wasn't kept clean in the past ... But, I have to make sure it is very clean before I refinish it. I had bought Magic Renew, but have been reading online about it, and it may not be the thing I need. So, will be returning it to Home Depot & go to Lowe's which has a product that looks to be easier to use & has good recs.
~~~~~~~~~~
7pm
Well, I finished off the last 3 cookies from the Raisin Walnut Chews. Must write down the missing ingredients for the next recipe I'm going to make this week - Pumpkin Spice Cookies.
And, I did my low impact chair exercises & did 5 counter push-ups. Need to work on the exercycle next & read another chapter of Torchwood Another Life. There are only 8 chapters left, so will finish it next week. I think Torchwood Border Princes is the next one in the series.
I really need to get the audiobooks burned & listen to those, too. They've been sitting on my external hard drive since last year!
Well, I travelled 2.5 miles on the exercycle at 17.3 mph for 8.23 minutes & burned 121 calories. It was a short chapter.
I REALLY need to get my ass in gear and start listing some stuff online to sell. I'm going to research Etsy tomorrow. I'm also going to find my cross-stitch software ... see which computer it will work on.
~~~~~~~~~~
9pm
Time for CSI Miami.  I think it's a new one tonight ... not sure.
A Good-Night poem by Robert Louis Stevenson:
Then the bright lamp is carried in,
The sunless hours again begin;
O'er all without, in field and lane,
The haunted night returns again.
Now we behold the embers flee
About the firelit hearth; and see
Our faces painted as we pass,
Like pictures, on the window glass.
Must we to bed indeed? Well then,
Let us arise and go like men,
And face with an undaunted tread
The long black passage up to bed.
Farewell, O brother, sister, sire!
O pleasant party round the fire!
The songs you sing, the tales you tell,
Till far to-morrow, fare you well!
December 20, 2009
8am
Another day when I got up late. And, I had the day planned, but the first thing my mom says is ... can you help me move the loveseat ... so another thing added to my list of things to do before I can start on what I'd already planned. I need to eat something now.
I'm making apple turnovers for breakfast. Yum.
~~~~~~~~~~
9am
Breakfast done. A load of laundry done. Finally going to feed & clean the doves & feed the fish now.
Aww. The plecostomus from the hex tank has died. Don't know if I'll get another one in there. First the aquatic frog disappeared & now Pleco died ... the 3 angel fish & 2 ghost shrimp seem to be thriving, though. The shrimp have definitely grown.
~~~~~~~~~~
10am
This morning is flying by! Time to go check all the bird feeders & fill if needed; clean the bird bath.
That didn't take long!
Need to rest before we move the loveseat ...
~~~~~~~~~~
11am
Loveseat is moved, carpet vacuumed & I'm pissed off, so probably won't be doing anything else I planned today. Have I mentioned recently now much I loathe my mother. If not, it's a lot. It feels like Florida all over again. Anyone have a septic tank out in some secluded woods I can use ... never mind ... if I didn't need her money ... I just want to cry sometimes. Can't believe I've been putting up with her shit for almost 47 years.

It's been a little while ... still mad ... maybe I will take it out on the exercycle & read a chapter of Torchwood Another Life, since I didn't have time or energy to do that yesterday.

A little better. Travelled at 17.2mph for 3.7 miles in 12.40 minutes & burned 181 calories.
~~~~~~~~~~
noon
If you use the Facebook Alarm app, you must have the sound turned on for your speakers ...
Well, I did get around to stripping the edging off the bathroom sink & getting it measured for a new sink & cabinet. I was going to just refurbish what was there, but discovered too many cracks in the old sink counter. Also, the shelves are too damaged underneath from past leakage ... So, need to get all that on top of replacing the old copper pipes & the faucet ...
Now, I need to get something to eat ...
Had buttered tortillas for lunch. Not a good lunch, really. Just not in the mood. Might have some fruit for a snack later ...
~~~~~~~~~~
1pm
Guess I will tackle scrubbing the toilet & checking it's pipes, etc. Hopefully, I won't have to replace more than just the seat, which I will do, too. Bought a new one the other day.
~~~~~~~~~~
2pm
Scrubbed the toilet, but will need to get something that will get rid of the mineral stains. I fixed the flusher that wouldn't work right after I replaced the tank innards a few months ago. Now I don't have to hold the handle down every time I use it! Yay. I also replaced the seat with a new one & put my old one on my mom's toilet until we remodel her bathroom. The seat she had was the wrong shape! It was oval when it needed a round one. So, it hung past the front of the toilet ...
Popped my wrist, so not sure if I will be able to scrub the shower today.
Had cookies for a snack ... really need to get some more fruit in today!
~~~~~~~~~~
4pm
Decided not to work on the shower. Getting late. It's raining. Gotta work the next three days.
It's on my list for tomorrow when I get home.
~~~~~~~~~~
6pm
Had leftover Spanish rice with cheesy garlic Texas toast & a Mandarin orange (aka Clementine.) Still hungry, though ...
I really need to make some time this week to add the Stingray Silhouette to my online shoppe & create another new design ... just haven't been in the mood! Really need to start advertising more, too. Still getting decent sales without advertising, but they are all from CafePress marketplace & I don't get paid a decent percentage unless sales are direct from my shoppe ... annoying.
I was so pissed off today, I used up too much energy ... now, I'm munching on crap. Well, yummy crap, but still crap. Kettle Chips Organic Chipotle Chili Barbecue ... my mouth is on fire ...
8pm
Glad this day is almost over. Can't wait to get in my warm bed.
Here's a quote for the day:
Once there was The People - Terror gave it birth;
Once there was The People, and it made a hell of earth!
Earth arose and crushed it. Listen, oh, ye slain!
Once there was The People - it shall never be again!
December 19, 2009
10am
I got up very late, nearly 8am! But, I am following my chore list for the day and already have the doves cleaned, fed & more bedding for their nests; started the pick-up; fixed one of the new outside garlands (one of the plastic links broke) & will be going out to put the insulated blanket on the water heater in a bit. My mom is about to go out to Walgreen's to pick up her Rx that we dropped off yesterday.
I paid close attention to the dash guages on the truck when I started it, & it definitely has a problem with the oil pressure. Hope it is something Curtis can fix easily & not a valve or ring job ... I do know it needs the timing reset ... I hope I can get another extension with dmv ...
~~~~~~~~~~
11am
Ahhh. Done wrapping the water heater & now I'm itching. Changed my shirts, so that helped. Will take a shower later. Forgot how messy fiberglass can be. Going to rest a bit before I start on the goldfish. I hate this part of having fish. It's so hard to tell sometimes if you are going to bring a disease home. Have to empty part of the water, add some medicine, take the fish out 1 at a time & pluck out the damn hookworms. Been about 30 years since I've had any fish with hookworms.
My mom is back from the store ... she bought a tree-topper ... damn ... it's an ugly-ass gold star with white lights ... too gaudy for words.
Will do the fish after lunch.
~~~~~~~~~~
noon
Had a boring sandwich for lunch. Cashew butter & jelly. Time to work on the fishies. Then change about 1/4 of the tank water.
~~~~~~~~~~
2pm
Arrrgh! I now really remember what I hated about having fish!!!!!! Changing water is such a freakin' pain! And, the new AquaVac did not want to cooperate! But, we finally got it done. I got most of the worms off of the 6 fish that had them (the 2 smallest didn't have any.) Need to get some anti-parasitic meds for them on Monday. There's still some antibiotic in their water as we only drained about 1/3 of the water. Need to change the filter pad on Monday, too.
Going to rest a bit before my next project, which is to take the "before" pics of my bathroom.
~~~~~~~~~~
3pm
Yay, got the pics taken of the tiny bathroom that is mine. It really is tiny ... it was hard to get good pics as there is nowhere to stand back far enough! Anyway, if you didn't see the pics as they loaded to Twitter, here is the link to my TwitPic page. http://twitpic.com/photos/quingem
I also started a late load of wash, just so I could get a pic of the bathroom closet ... haha!
Next & last project for the day is to clean Papa's fan. It was stored in my dad's garage since 1969 when Papa died, but my mom says it worked at the time! It just has 40 years of dust & grease covering it. It's all metal & was forest green & very heavy for such a small fan. We'll see what it looks like when I'm done & if it really works. I'll take before & after pics of it, too!
But, before I do that I'm going to look through Mrs. Fields Cookie Book to find the next cookies I'm going to make. We're almost out of the last batch already!
Oooh, Pumpkin Spice Cookies! They look yummy! Just need a couple of ingredients from the store next week.
~~~~~~~~~~
4pm
Yay! Done with today's chores!!! I need to replace the wiring on Papa's fan one day & definitely need to repaint it, but it looks good for a 50+ year old fan. Too bad they don't make cloth-covered wiring any more to replace the old wires ... will have to do some research on this old thing. It's a Wardway.
Now to write up my list of chores for tomorrow ... I seem to get more things done when I make a list.
~~~~~~~~~~
8pm
Doctor Who Waters Of Mars was fantastic. I'm sure gonna miss 10.
December 18, 2009
5pm
What an annoying day. Nothing really accomplished, even though I got up early. Didn't clean the doves cage, didn't put the blanket on the water heater, didn't start working on my bathroom, didn't start the truck (it's been a month!), didn't operate on the goldfish ... My mom's dr. appt. was for 10 am, but no one saw her until freakin' noon!  I sat in the car reading Torchwood Another Life the whole time ... After that, we stopped at Hayes' Feed to get a 25 lb. bag of dove & quail feed (with NO field peas or popcorn in it!) Then, we went to Big Lots & I have no idea what all we got for $80+ ... bunch of crap she kept putting in the cart ... Like we don't have enough stuff to get rid of around here ... grumble, grumble ...
I did just do my low impact chair exercises.
Waiting for the hot wings to be ready for dinner now ...
~~~~~~~~~~
6pm
Another lazy day when I don't want to do anything but play online ... I DID get my Secret Santa fanart gift done on time, though!!
~~~~~~~~~~
8pm
Going to bed early. Might read a little. Just need a warm bed. It's cold in here tonight!
Here's a fun quote:
"I got a part as a chorus girl in a show called Every Sailor and I had fun doing it. Mother didn't really approve of it, through."
December 17, 2009
1pm
I only got 1 store serviced today & then went shopping! I finally got the insulated water heater blanket. Need to put that on this weekend.
~~~~~~~~~~~
5pm
I've been wrapped up in reading more fanfic today. Very lazy day. Haven't done any exercises, either ...
~~~~~~~~~~
9pm
Wow. CSI was great again (even with Sara in it ...) I was surprised by that ending!
Just couldn't get motivated to do anything but read today.
Have to take my mom to a dr. appt. at 10 tomorrow morning.
Closing up now.
December 16, 2009
8am
WooHoo! I have now lost 10 lbs. since the beginning of September--I'm now at 150! That's right on track. I'd like to lose 31 more pounds to be back to my normal weight. And, I need to lose 2 more inches on my waist to be at a healthy size for my height--33 inches, but I want to get to my previous normal of 31. I have already lost 1 inch. Doing good without really exercising a lot, but eating better than I have in years. Just MOVING and not constantly sitting and doing nothing is a big improvement! FlyLady & Jonathan Roche are keeping me on track.
~~~~~
2pm
Wow! Just found out the company I work for, Foster Grant, is merging with a French company, Essilor. The field team (us reps!!) are considered one of the companies best assests, so no loss of jobs, according to FG CEO. Yay! That's a relief! This is the press release: http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=197697&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=1366404&highlight=
I got 3 stores serviced today, then stopped at the storage & brought a bunch of stuff home, including a garage door opener still in the box & a beautiful china set. Both will be sold next year.
~~~~~
3pm
Did 5 minutes walking in place & drank a whole glass of water. My legs are "buzzing"! Going to rest a bit & then work on the exercycle.
Oh, mama dove is sitting on THREE eggs now!
~~~~~~~~~~
4pm
I did my low impact chair exercises & then travelled on the exercycle while I read another chapter of Torchwood Another Life. Hey it's a pretty good story & I'm enjoying reading each chapter.
So, I travelled 18.8mph for 3.8 miles, 12.24 minutes & burned 186 calories. I'm wiped out!
~~~~~~~~~~
5pm
Having Spanish Rice with chicken for dinner, a family recipe. And, fresh pineapple my mom sliced today.
I don't like sparkling water so why did I buy 5 bottles of Crystal Geyser Sparkling Juices?
Just purged some of the non-tweeters that I follow on Twitter. I think I unfollowed 12 that haven't tweeted anything since October or that were not the kind of tweets I like.
~~~~~~~~~~
7pm
Glee's not on tonight! Is it April, yet? Make It Or Break It will be back on Jan. 4, though. Can't wait. Love Anthony Starke! He's not in it enough, though ...
You know, I really should be making that Secret Santa gift ... still not motivated ...
~~~~~~~~~~
9pm
Got to reading a really good fanfic and lost track of time.
Here's a quote for the night:
"They seek him here, they seek him there,
Those Frenchies seek him everywhere.
Is he in heaven? Or is he in hell?
December 15, 2009
3pm
I'm a bit tired right now! Just finished working on the exercycle & reading another chapter of Torchwood Another Life. I travelled 4.7 miles at 20.3 mph for 15.36 minutes & burned 227 calories! My best workout so far, I think.
I serviced 2 stores today & stopped at the paid storage. Got the last of the 18-gallon plastic bins along with a couple of boxes and other odds & ends.
Lots of old stuff in the bins. Mostly kitchen stuff ... real silverware, pyrex baking stuff, too many glasses sets. And other old stuff ... lots for the spring yard sale & online sales.
~~~~~~~~~~
4pm
I'm enjoying listening to The Scarlet Pimpernel with Leslie Howard. I've always loved this movie & the remake from the '80s with Anthony Andrews.
This morning before I left for work, Candace discovered the angel fish & Pleco! The hex tank is on a low end table. Just the right height for her to stand on her hind legs & pat the glass with her paws. So cute. Not much really catches her attention & keeps it for long with her bad eyesight. But, she was interested for a good 15 minutes. Too bad the big tank is up higher & she doesn't really notice the goldfish, which are much more active.
~~~~~~~~~~
7pm
It's been a tiring day & I haven't really done much since I got home. I just finished reading Reminisce Extra magazine. I missed getting it all these years. I will have to remember to get it every month when I go to Barnes & Noble.
~~~~~~~~~~
8pm
I am so sick of State Farm Insurance! I got a bill today for a policy that THEY cancelled in September for homeowner's insurance on this mobile home because it is too old. I called them about 2pm & the guy said he would "research it and call me back." No one called back. Will have to call again tomorrow. Idiots.
Oh, no, I need more stamps!
~~~~~~~~~~
9pm
Going to watch some old episodes of Clean House on Style channel. Love that Mark Brunetz! (His Eddie is a lucky guy!)
Tonight's quote is ...
"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
December 14, 2009
A couple of vids I found today:
~~~~~~~~~~
I received my Zumbox registration number in the mail & have now fully registered with the site. We'll see if it actually lessens the amount of paper mail I still get.
~~~~~~~~~~
4pm
Finally got a chance to use the exercycle & read a chapter of Torchwood Another Life. I travelled 3.1 miles at 16.6 mph for 10.53 minutes & burned 150 calories! Yay, me. I also did my low-impact workout in the chair.
~~~~~~~~~~
Trying to catch up on all my surveys before they expire. I am so behind! I think there are 10 waiting in my inbox! Well, caught up. I made $6 today!
~~~~~~~~~~
I finally got my oil royalty check. It was double this month because of a computer glitch last month that ate some checks. So I was able to start getting some of the things for my  bathroom remodel. And, I am going to order some things from Flylady!  Yay!
~~~~~~~~~~
The doves are very talkative this evening. They like the nests I made them the other day. Mama dove is sitting on 2 eggs now.
~~~~~~~~~~
Found my Christmas cards!!!
Filled them out and will mail in the morning!
~~~~~~~~~~
Whole Foods Markets now have printable coupons at their site. http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/coupons/ I printed six of them.
~~~~~~~~~~
8pm
I really should make my Secret Santa gift ... It's due Friday ... I'll probably end up doing it at the last minute, as usual ...
~~~~~~~~~~
I'm kind of annoyed that I haven't received any free address labels since we moved to our new place in August. I'm still using old labels & lining out the old address! Messy. I may have to make some once I use the last of these.
~~~~~~~~~~
CSI Miami is pretty good tonight. Gonna close up now. Here's a quote:
December 13, 2009
10:30am
Feeling much better today. Had everyone fed & cleaned by 9:30am.
Just finished reading a chapter of  Torchwood Another Life while travelling 3.2 miles at 14.9 mph for 13.37 minutes & burning 156 calories.
Going to vacuum a bit now.
Listening to an Eddie Fisher Greatest Hits cd.
~~~~~~~~~~
11:30am
Going to sweep the cobwebs from my bathroom while listening to The Beatles 1 CD.
~~~~~~~~~~
Noon
Good videos found today; very thought-provoking:
Need food now!
All leftover pizza is now gone. Won't get that one again ... didn't really like it 365 Chicken Quesadilla from Whole Foods. Had to pick all the corn off & too many black beans ...
Will try another one next time.
~~~~~~~~~~
1pm
Gah!!! Someone make that kid stop skateboarding on that ramp outside!!!!!
Please rain come back just enough for him to go back inside!!!
~~~~~~~~~~
1:30pm
Just finished my low-impact exercises (you do them in a chair.) They are very easy to fit in each day, but they do work on your muscles little-by-little. Will try to do them every day.
~~~~~~~~~~
2:30pm
I actually wrote a little paragraph for a 5-minute writing prompt today! I haven't written anything fic-like in a couple of years! Here it is:

Daniel begged Teal'c to keep Sam occupied in any way he saw fit. As he ran down the corrider, Daniel thought he should be worried about what Teal'c would see fit to do with Sam, but then he thought about why he'd begged Teal'c to do that. He grinned as he hurried his steps toward his destination. He nearly collided with Walter as he turned the corner to the VIP quarters.
"Sorry, sorry."

And, that's all I wrote. ;)
~~~~~~~~~~
3:30pm
Trying to think of subjects for a fanart wall for someone in a group I am in for the Secret Santa ... they aren't in the group database ... very frustrating when you don't know what they really like ... other than certain obvious things that led them to be in this particular group ... hmmm ...
~~~~~~~~~~
9pm
Time to take Jorgy out one last time & then head to bed.
A fun quote to end the day:

"Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." The Princess Bride

December 12, 2009

Noon
Well, a mini water disaster has been averted! We used the aquarium cleaner to drain water from the hex tank down far enough that we could pick it up, put it on the rolling cabinet, move it to the big room and transfer to it's new table next to the big tank. All went quickly and well. Reversed the suction to refill the hex tank. All was going well until I went to plug in the filter. I only looked away for a few seconds before I hear dripping water & then a waterfall!!! Luckily I was quick to reach the shut-off valve. The carpet didn't get tooooo wet, but the sheet around the bottom of the tree got soaked! We've soaked up all the water on the tablecloth & the carpet that got damp. Going to use the mini portable heater on high to make sure the legs of the table don't stay damp. Not putting a dry sheet under the tree for a couple of hours. In all, it took barely 30 minutes to drain the water down to about 3 inches AND refill the 20 gallon hex tank. Not bad. Much better than the suction cleaner tube I used 15+ years ago! I did sadly discover that my aquatic frog did indeed disappear ... No idea what happened to him, but hadn't seen him in a week ...:(
~~~~~~~~~~
2PM
Since I didn't do my exercises yesterday, I made sure I did a long one today. Luckily, the chapter I read in  Torchwood Another Life was pretty long. I travelled 4.3 miles at 15.5 mph for 17.04 minutes and burned 205 calories!! Damn, that's good!
I started a late load of wash today & about to put them in the dryer, then start on a batch of cookies! I must be feeling better today! It sure is raining, too!
~~~~~~~~~~
3pm
The first tray of cookies is in the oven. 3 more to go! Big batch! This batch is from Mrs. Fields Cookie Book & is the Oatmeal Raisin Chews recipe, with walnuts added.  Mmmmm, good cookies!
~~~~~~~~~~
4pm
The 4th & last cookie sheet is in the oven now. Just fed the stray rabbit 3 baby carrots. He's in the neighbor's yard munching on some overgrown weeds. Haven't seen him in a couple days. He lives in the drainage ditch under Pioneer Road behind us. He's white with dark brown spots. A domestic mixed breed that someone dumped once upon a time. When we moved in he roamed with a Lop (white with black spots), but haven't seen that one for a couple months now. :(
~~~~~~~~~~
8pm
It's been a fairly good day. Only nearly lost my temper once trying to get the damn Christmas train track back around the bottom of the tree when I replaced the sheet. Stupid thing ...
Missed sending a quote last night, so you'll get two today!!

December 11, 2009

This didn't start out the best day. Didn't feel good at all this morning. It's been raining since last night, so Jorgy has not been happy going outside.
I cleaned the doves' cage & set up 2 new nests for them from baskets we already had (not ideal, but needed something for mama as she laid an egg on the grill and it cracked.) They seem happy with the set-up.
Finally got around to re-installing the drivers for the old RCA digital camera on the ME computer (the only one it will work on.) I love the camera. It's always taken great pics, even though I tend to shake a bit. I just don't like the twain driver thingie, as the cables annoy me. But, I took 13 pics today & most turned out okay. http://twitpic.com/photos/quingem
My mom decided to name the goldfish in the big tank. They are:
Derek - Calico Fantail (western Ryukin body-type)
Rachel - Bronze Fantail
Silverstreak - White Comet
Salem - Red/white Common (was in the feeder tank at the pet store, but really stood out)
Sinbad - Calico Shubunkin
Simba - Red/white Oranda
Jacob - Red Oranda
Seth - Black Moor

She named both the plecostomus, Platypus the day I brought them home ...

CSI was so much fun last night. I laughed through nearly the whole episode (well, not the Dr. Jekyl storyline) Henry will never forget his birthday road trip! Watch it on cbs.com: http://bit.ly/4KkwzN

Still feel like crap, so I'm going to close up early & watch some old Andy Griffith shows.

December 10, 2009

No real blogging today. I felt very lazy. I shopped instead of working. I didn't read my book or exercise when I got home. I didn't find any good nesting baskets for mama dove today or get the blanket for the water heater ... I did get live tubifex worms for the fish, though! They are happy. The worms are not ...
New CSI tonight. Yay! Henry gets a birthday road trip ... but, it doesn't look like it goes well ... it starts in 10 minutes!

"I tend not to believe people; they lie. The evidence never lies." Gil Grissom, CSI

December 9, 2009

I discovered Trader Joe's today. Just walked around & drooled since I didn't have any money today. Next month I will definitely have a shopping spree there!! Yummy stuff! I really like their sales paper. It's like an old-fashioned newspaper.

We've discovered that we have a mouse inside that likes the doves food! Lots of mouse poopies on their blanket ... grrrr. Brought the little mouse trap inside & put it on their cage. Discovered while cleaning the cage that mama's egg is no good. Sad, but kind of expected with the move & new surroundings for her. So, took out her nest basket & tossed all of it. I'll get her a new nesting basket once we get the mouse problem sorted.

My mom finally got a hold of my cousin & he will help with moving the rest of the stuff in the paid storage & will try to get the truck to pass the smog test. I need to stop at the storage place to see how much to rent their moving van. We could move everything in a few trips in my pickup, but we'd have to take the camper shell off to move the fridge ... don't really want to do that ...

Read a very short chapter in  Torchwood Another Life today on the exercycle. Travelled 15.3 mph for 1.4 miles & 5.46 minutes burning only 70 calories. Better than nothing!

OSH has water heater blankets on sale for $15.99. I think I will get one tomorrow since we need one.

Oh, Glee is on tonight.  Love that show. Last ep before their hiatus. They'll be back in April.  Long wait!!

My doves don't like field peas ... won't get them Kaytee Supreme Dove mix again. Will make my own like I used to. I toss them out for the wild birds, but they don't seem to like them either ...

I feel very lazy this evening ...

I love the Andy Griffith Show. They just don't make classics like that anymore.

Almost time for Glee to start, so I am closing up now & taking Jorgy out early.

December 8, 2009

10:00am
I did something really, really, really stupid yesterday. When we were getting the bins out of the car, I had left the keys in the car with the cd playing ... I didn't go back out when we were done to get my keys ... needless to say, this morning I have a dead battery!  I haven't killed a battery in 15 years!!!!!! Lucky spot, though. I had already brought the old battery charger home from the storage months ago! So, the battery will be charging all day instead of me going to work. I'll have to work an extra day next week to make up. So, I have just stripped my bed & started a load of wash; straightened up one of the fridges, took out some garbage & deciding what I will do next ...
We were verrrry cold overnight. Broke some records. It was 24F when I got up at 6 this morning. I had to break up the ice in the birdbath with the hand hoe & pour hot water in it! Brrr. We've had one of the local stray cats hanging out in Jorgy's yard between the lavender bushes against the fence the past couple days. Not sure if she is trying to stay warm or stalking our wild birds! She jumps out of the yard when I take Jorgy out in the morning.
~~~~~~~~~~
11:00am
Found my resistance rings & started using them. I couldn't remember where they were & found them in my tv cabinet in my room!  Odd place for them. They are now sitting on my ab-doer (which I need to start using again!) next to the exercycle ... which are all next to my desk. I have no excuses not to use them all now! Want to get some small dumbbells soon. My old ones are in my uncle's storage, I think. Who knows when we will get the rest of our stuff from there!
Have the sheets in the dryer now. When they are done, all the pillows will get 10 minutes each in the dryer to "fluff" them. That will take a while. I have a lot of pillows! haha!
My mom got all of the old kitchen stuff washed that I brought home yesterday. Have sorted a few things out for the yard sale.
Must check on battery charger, but don't want to go outside!!! ... Wasn't sure if it was connecting good, so sanded a bit of rust & corrosion off the clips. It's an old charger ... at least as old as me! I remember using it when I was 5!
~~~~~~~~~~
Noon
Having a crappy lunch. Just couldn't decide what I wanted. So, I'm having salami & Ritz crackers with Brown Cow chocolate yogurt and Naked Protein Zone Mango.
I'm watching the funeral on a live feed from FoxNews (http://interactive.foxnews.com/livestream/live.html?chanId=6) of the Washington police officers who were murdered last week. The turnout from law enforcement is absolutely amazing. I am really impressed by the number of Canadian Mounties. They really stand out with their red uniforms.
I should be working on my online shoppe, but just not in the mood. My whole day is out-of-whack because of the stupid dead battery. Need to check on it again ...
~~~~~~~~~~
2:30pm
Good chapter in Torchwood Another Life today. Traveled 3.6 miles at 14.2 mph for 14.36 minutes and burned 173 calories! Pretty good workout.
Have most of the pillows fluffed and the sheets on the bed. Need to rest before I start on all the blankets. There are lots of them since it has been getting so cold. I have to pace myself when I make a bed since it irritates my breathing. Plus, it is a heavy old sleigh bed (luckily on wheels) that I have to move away from the wall to work on.
~~~~~~~~~
4:00pm
Finally finished making my bed & fluffing my pillows for the week. I'm going to try to do it every week if I can.
We've decided to move the hexagonal fish tank this weekend. It's just not working out in the kitchen nook. It will get set on a small end table next to the bigger tank until after the Christmas tree is down. By then, we'll have the rest of the stuff out of the paid storage & I am hoping it will fit on the end of the stereo cabinet. If not, I'll have to buy a stand for it.
~~~~~~~~~~
6:30pm
I listened to the FlyLady's 10th anniversary show on BlogTalk Radio tonight. It was a 2-hour show. It was kind of fun and I was in chat for a while, too. She has a lot of great ideas that I have been using to keep the clutter under control & try to get back to my organized ways that I kind of let go of over the past 10 years. I used to be very organized, but then gave up on it for various reasons. You might want to check her out at FlyLady.net
My battery is still not fully charged. Hope it is by morning, or I'll have to take the bus over to WalMart & get another one! I really shouldn't miss another day of work.
~~~~~~~~~~
8:00pm
Boring tv tonight. Guess I'll stick with the classics. Andy Griffith Show, you're it!

Today's quote:

December 7, 2009

I hope you've all had a memorable Pearl Harbor Day!
Early blog post today:

Where has this day gone!? It's almost 3:00pm already. I serviced 3 stores today, as planned. Yay, me ... only 12 more stores to go this week! I stopped at the paid storage on the way home & brought home 3 18-gallon bins of antiques. Mostly collector plates, bakeware & other odds & ends. Need to clean them all & decide which we'll keep & which will be set aside for the spring yard sale & which will be sold online ... Still quite a bit more in bins in the storage.
Just finished reading another chapter of Torchwood Another Life. Very short chapter! I only travelled 1.5 miles at 14.3 mph, for 6.24 minutes & burned only 76 calories.
Garbage man finally arrived. I need to go drag the can back under the carport.
~~~~~~~~~~
I've got to get my mom to stop putting the garbage can in front of the big brick planter box. The arms of the garbage truck can claw are going to break it.
Must take Jorgy out for a potty break & then try to work on that stingray design for my online shoppe.
Damn! I sat down on the bottom step to wait for Jorgy & it was still wet from last night's rain! haha!
~~~~~~~~~~
4:00pm
Well, it seems I didn't keep the stingray silhouette I made a few years ago. It's not on any of my drives ... bummer. Will have to make another one, but not today. I did add the new bags to 2 of my most popular designs in the shoppe, though. Chimpanzee Hug & Panda With Bamboo. They are in the Gifts & More sections of those designs.

6:30pm
I'm happy that I found a small version of the stingray silhouette & have just finished enlarging it & fixing the blurred edges. Turned out great, I think. I'll add it to the shoppe tomorrow after work.
Supposed to freeze again in the morning. So, I need to cover the veggie seedlings again before bed tonight.
Going to play games on my other computer for a while.

9:00am
Got up at my normal time (7:00am) this morning. Yay! Got all the critters cleaned & fed on time. Poured warm water on the birdbath outside as it froze over! Brrr. Need to fill one of the bird feeders when it warms up a bit, too.
I left the vent outside overnight (forgot to bring it in!) so need to check it to see if I need to paint anything else on it before I put it back up in the laundryroom.
Going to start the factory restore on my ME computer this morning if the old CD will work ... good, it's on the job now!
Will start working on my online shoppe now. Have to think up some text for the new image.  That is always the hardest part for me to do on a new design.
Well, that didn't take long at all! The ME computer is now back to its factory settings like the day I bought it about 9 years ago! Now I have to find the disks for the XP & get that one done soon, but not today.
~~~~~~~~~~
11:00am
It's still very chilly outside. Checked all the outside bird feeders, but they didn't need to be refilled yet. Thawed out the birdbath and uncovered the veggie seedlings. The sun keeps trying to come out, but the clouds are winning. The local weather guy says it might actually snow over in Sacramento tomorrow, so we might get a few flakes over here, too.
I finished the Gifts & More section of my Shadowplay Foal design. On to the next section now.
~~~~~~~~~~
Noon
I don't know where this weekend has gone ... I have to work every day next week ... not happy. I don't know what I want for lunch, but we are going to have oven-fried chicken legs w/mac'n'cheese for dinner.
Don't know what is going on with YahooGroups and attachments. In one of my groups all attachments are being stripped, even though the groups settings are set correctly to allow them. It's been going on for about 3 days. Other groups I'm in are working fine. It's very annoying because it is an art group! And, we've been sharing attachments just fine for over 5 years!
Oh, leftover blackbean soup & biscuits for lunch. Okay!
~~~~~~~~~~
2:00pm
Yay, the laundryroom is done, for all intents & purposes. All it is really lacking is some weatherstripping for the vent that I just put up. It took almost a month to get it all done, but it is done now. Looks pretty good. Pics later.
I found a neat timer app on Facebook that seems to work pretty good. It will help me to focus better for short periods of time (a la The FlyLady) I tried some of the Google Desktop timers & they didn't work the way I wanted. So, we'll see how this one does.
Back to the online shoppe. I finished the base of the Clothing & Accessories section & also found I needed to add 2 new apron colors & 2 new bag styles!
~~~~~~~~~~
3:00pm
I read another chapter in Torchwood Another Life while on the exercycle. It was a short chapter today, so I only traveled 1.8 miles at 13.7 mph for 7.42 minutes & only burned 88 calories ...
~~~~~~~~~~
6:00pm
Everyone's been fed & I am done with my new design section, Shadowplay Foal, in my online shoppe. It turned out pretty good.
I have all my paperwork ready for work tomorrow. I so don't look forward to this week. I have to service 3 stores each day (15 stores ...)
I didn't get the pictures of the critters or the updated laundryroom done today as planned. So, hopefully one day this week when I get home from work I will do that.
~~~~~~~~~~
7:30pm
I've got an old stingray silhouette that I made after Steve Irwin died that I think I will add to my shoppe tomorrow. If I can get it to resize correctly.
~~~~~~~~~~
8:00pm
Time to close up early again. Yahoogroups is still acting up & stripping attachments in the art group (even embedded images are being stripped.) Annoying & weird. It's not happening in my Incredimail-sharing groups at all!
Anyway, I'm going to play a game on my other computer & watch an old Clean House episode.
December 5, 2009
10:00 am
I got one coat of white paint sprayed on one side of the laundryroom vent this morning. But, it is so overcast and breezy outside, I might not get it done today. Bummer.
I got up late this morning ... about 30 minutes later than normal. So, I feel like I am running behind today! I fed the fish & doves late, fed me and Jorgy late ... still need to clean the grill floor in the doves cage. Guess I will do it now!
I still need to go out and organize the shed, so we can fit the holiday stuff in there!
My mom left a message for my cousin, Curtis, yesterday but he hasn't called back yet. It was his birthday, which she didn't remember, so he might have been out. We need to find out if he can help us finish emptying out our paid storage. Still have a fridge, recliner, couch, cabinet stereo & cabinet tv we can't move ourselves; plus, some odds & ends that I can move myself. I don't have anyone else that we can ask for help ...
~~~~~~~~~~
11:00 am
I got the shed straightened up & was able to fit 4 old suitcase sets in there, as well as the holiday bins. I broke the eagle on my flag, though ... :( I need to get a new flagpole now ...
I did another coat of paint on the vent. Sun is still not out, but the breeze is helping to dry it!
Getting some scans done to share in one of my groups. Some cool images. I am also scanning an old india ink drawing of a foal I made in 7th grade art class! It's a big image, so I am going to have to piece it together in PSP. I want to use it as a design in my online shoppe.
I just put in my first load of wash for the day finally (had to wait for my mom to do a couple loads ...)
Ah, scans are done! I better get the doves' cage cleaned now.
~~~~~~~~~~
Noon
Ah, lunch! Didn't know what to have ... so a snack lunch is in order. New York Style Baked Spicy 3 Pepper Pita chips with Tostitos creamy spinach dip. And Stonyfield organic Strawberry yogurt. Yum.
Second load is in the wash.
~~~~~~~~~~
1:00pm
The bird cage is clean & the laundry is done for another day. And, I turned the vent over and painted the other side. The sun has finally come out for a few hours.
~~~~~~~~~~
4:00pm
Damn! Where did the time go?! I've been working on my foal silhouette for 3 hours! Might finish it today ...
We just brought in some of the more delicate potted plants from the porch for the night & covered the vegetable seedlings. We are supposed to have a frost in the morning. Might get down to 29F.
We're having leftover sweet potato casserole & a small pork roast on the rotisserie for dinner. My mom is getting it ready now.
~~~~~~~~~~
7:30pm
I finally finished my Shadowplay Foal design!  Here's a little preview of it. I'll be adding the design to my online shoppe tomorrow.

I think I will close up early tonight and play an online game I'm addicted to before bed.

December 4, 2009

I exercised at my normal time today. I like to get my exercise and reading in at the same time since I can't read outside right now (too chilly for me!) I read another chapter of Torchwood Another Life travelling 15.4 mph for 10.2 minutes, covering 2.3 miles & burned 112 calories! Cool!

I just registered with Zumbox.com ... now I have to wait for snail mail (aka USPS) to deliver my code to use on the site! Huh. It's like a digital mail box. Supposedly it will help cut down on paper junk mail ... we'll see! At least it is free! But, I don't think this is something that is helpful for the USPS if it gives them less mail to deliver ... hmmm ...

Worked on my online shoppe for an hour or so.  I'm finally adding Pink Maternity T-Shirts, and Creme & Lime Jr. Jerseys. I've gotten as far as the Christmas section! More work on there tomorrow.

Black bean soup for dinner was delicious. Have enough to freeze for a later meal.

I'm thinking of selling some of the small antiques on Etsy when I get around to it. I'm so disappointed with eBay, which I used to make decent money on. I just don't like how much they've changed since those days ... but, I have to sell them somewhere & I really don't feel like hauling them out to Denio's Farmer's Market & Auction next summer or to the big yardsale at our friend, Betty's this spring. Have to start researching the site soon.

The plecostomus that is in the tank with the goldfish decided to go for a ride on top of the shark aerator tonight!  He's holding on for dear life, it looks like. It vibrates as the bubbles come out the mouth! Silly pleco!

I need to bake another batch of cookies tomorrow. I'm about to finish off the last batch finally! The next recipe in the Mrs. Fields Cookie Book is Oatmeal Raisin Chews.  Sounds good! Will make them tomorrow, I hope! I got some organic raisins and walnuts to use in them.

Wore Jorgy out with a Chase The Bone & Kill The Puppy romp on the floor. She quit before I did! She's been jealous of the fish & doves. So, she was due for some extra attention. Her favorite toys are a little sterile round eye bone & a tiny stuffed dog. Just her size. She's had them for years.

I think I will go to bed very early tonight. Nothing good on tv, hardly any emails from the groups I'm in and the tweets are few and far between ... bah!

Nighty night!

In the depth of winter
I finally learned there was in
me an invincible summer.

December 3, 2009 - post 2

I picked up 4 magazines today.  I don't usually buy too many magazines these days, other than Torchwood Official Magazine & the occasional Doctor Who magazine. I used to collect a lot of dog magazines when I was showing the Cockers in the'80s & Taste of Home. So, I decided to get these: Taste of Home (I may subscribe to it again), do it yourself (aka diyideas), Hobby Farms & Mother Earth News (which I've always wanted to have--I used to check them out of the library many years ago.) I'm enjoying going through these. But, Hobby Farms isn't as interesting as I would have hoped in this issue. May have to try the next one to really see if it is worth it. I'm loving do it yourself (I have always been a proponent of this!!) It has some great ideas in it & also is prompting me to follow through with an idea I've had for a while for some new designs in my online shoppe (QuinGem's Creations).

We had lentil bolani with sweet jalapeno sauce & tofu cream cheese spread on it for dinner tonight. Yum. I really like the stuff from bolaniandsauce.com They sell locally at the Davis Farmer's Market (where I discovered their products) and at Whole Foods Market in Sacramento. My favorite is their spinach bolani!

Finally took a few minutes to use the exercycle tonight. 15.5 mph; 120 cal. burned; 2.5 miles; 9.49 minutes. Not bad. I also read a chapter in Torchwood Another Life while I rode.

Time to close up for the day. I have to work in the morning. Here's a quote for the day that I saw in the back of Hobby Farms magazine (Nov.-Dec. issue, page 96):
"Those who never sink into this peace of nature lose a tremendous well of strength, for there is something healing and life giving in the mere atmosphere surrounding a country house." - Eleanor Roosevelt

December 3, 2009 - post 1

I bought a wooden ladder toy for the doves today. I also bought 2 Shubunkin goldfish (1 is solid white, the other a big calico), 2 ghost shrimp and an aquatic frog.
The shrimp & frog went in with the 3 angelfish in the hex tank. Bought some live plants for both tanks, too. Oh, & 1 plecostamus for each tank.
We got all the holiday decorations up finally. Had to exchange the bad light cord. Made sure to have the customer service gal check it before I left. Didn't want to have to come back again!

Still have to get a tree topper I like. No angels & no stars, please! WalMart had 3 that I really like, but my mom wants one that lights up! I told her I can just string the light cord through it!
My mom is making a black bean soup mix that was supposed to be dinner tonight. She keeps forgetting that it takes longer in the crock pot! So, it will be tomorrow's dinner. We're having lentil bolani instead. Jorgy is getting a leftover duck wing meat for her dinner.
I didn't get any exercise bike in the past 2 days! I really must remember tonight! I am trying to get serious about it! But, I am happy that I have lost 8 lbs. since we moved in here in mid-August without doing any actual planned exercise.  Just eating better & going up & down the steps is helping! Want to be back down to my normal 119 by summer. I have about 33 lbs. to go!

For those of you who are fans of reading Stargate slash fanfiction, Rauhnee of Area 52 needs some help. (this is a legitimate plea.) Here's her note:

Hello,

Rauhnee here. I'm the one who pays for the server that hosts Area 52. I've
asked Patrimas to spread the word as the site archivist.

I've been unemployed for over a year and a half now, and I could really use
some help covering the server costs until I get a job. It's not that
expensive, $40/month, so a few dollars a month would go a long way to
offsetting the cost.

The paypal for server support is mckensey@mckensey.com

It has been a truly amazing 11 years so far, and heartening to see the baby
I started in 1998 for a handful of stories grow into what it is today, and
the thriving fandom it serves so well.

Welcome to my re-vamped blog!

Just a fun quote to end the evening:
"When the sanctified dead rise from their graves to receive judgment, I'll start doling out cash."
Said by Ezra Standish in The Magnificent Seven (TV series)
