March 31, 2013

5:15pm
I really haven't been in the mood to blog about anything lately! But, today, we have RAIN! And, THUNDER! And, LIGHTNING! And, HAIL! I love a good storm!
It's hard to tell, but the hail was pea-sized. This is some that landed on our covered deck.
I didn't get any good shots of the hail in the yard. I was too slow and the rain started coming down in buckets and the hail melted.
It's still thundering and lightning, but I had to come in. My socks got soaked! ;)

9:30pm
Back to work tomorrow after a few days off. This week will be very busy ...

March 25, 2013

7:30am
I was so distracted yesterday that I didn't even proofread my post yesterday.
It wasn't my water heater closet door, it was my furnace closet door that I had to fix. The water heater is on the side of the trailer; the furnace is on the back ...

10:15am
So. I went to the bus stop to wait for my bus. I'm always early. So, I finished reading Supernatural: One Year Gone I put the ebook back in my pack & see my bus a couple blocks away. So, I'm ready. The bus zooms by the stop and never even slows down!!! Grrrrr! It would be another hour wait for the next one, so I said the heck with it and came home.

2:15pm
OMG! I finally activated my TracFone after having it for over 3 months! I have minutes and everything. Big Whoop. Eh. I hate having it and even the small extra expense. Just need to find the Mag7 ringtone if there is a free one now and figure out how to add it.
Hmmm. Also need to figure out what my phone number is ...

Wow! I just won this for free, All Leather moccasins

5pm
So. I finally changed out the O2 sensor on my car. Damn check engine light won't reset. So, next will be getting my own scanner. eBay has them for a good price. If it was just me here, I wouldn't bother, but my mom is upset that she can't go to the store with me without the car (bus stop is too far for her, she thinks ...) and I can't get an etrike for her yet ...

8pm
Well, little miss 'I can't do anything to help ... I'm old ... I'm this ... I'm that ...' has finally realized that I can't do all of my projects as well as all of hers'. So, she is finally getting off her butt and working in the yard the past week or so. And, pulling weeds!! And, replanting things!! I'm honestly very shocked she is doing it. I must say 'no' more often! Jorgy's old yard is looking pretty good after several months of looking like a dump. It will still have to be dug up later to get the weed cloth out and get some more brick edgers laid along the fenceline. But, for now, I'm going to let her play over there so she'll leave me the hell alone in trying to build my patio behind the shed ...
Getting her eating healthy and off all those Rx last year has really given her more energy than she realizes. She's been doing more inside the house, too. ;)

Wow! I just won this for free, BNIP CLEAR ACRYLIC STAMPS "LOVE"

March 24, 2013

10am
This day started so well ... and is steadily going downhill ...
Did I mention that I hate the North Wind yesterday? Yeah. Well, it tore the door off my water heater closet at the back of the trailer. So, guess what I'm doing this afternoon? Fixing it and putting it back on. Have to remove all the old screws from the frame, drill new holes in the door and the frame and try to lift that heavy damn thing back up to the wall and remount it while standing on a ladder ... yeah, easy ... not. (I live in a mobile home, so it is 3 feet off the ground; 6-foot tall door ... yeah ... and the wind is coming back up after a short lull ...)

2:45pm
So, I did it. By myself! Despite my mom trying to distract me! And, I think the door is set in the hinge/frame flange thingie better than it was. My new holes are further into the wood than the previous holes (they were way too close to the edge,) so less likely to just pull away. Plus, I fixed the sliding locks that never seemed to stay closed before. Probably the reason the wind was able to pull the door off was that those locks rattled open.

8:30pm
Wow! I just won this for free, Brand New Cute Bicycle Socks!! NWT

March 23, 2013

11:30am
I hate the North Wind! It was so bad yesterday, I had to take the bus rather than my bike. And, while I was away, it knocked my mom on her butt. She was on the deck watering some of the plants. Luckily, she wasn't on the steps. Her butt is sore, but otherwise she's fine. It also knocked my big outdoor umbrella over. It wasn't open, so it didn't get damaged. I think the wooden spokes would've been broken if it had been open. It's still gusty and cold today, so not doing anything outside.
I just finished cleaning the doves' room and letting them out to play for a bit. I let Big Boy and Little Girl out first, then Little Boy and Squabbie.
Big Boy and Little Girl playing on the cat tunnel.
Squabbie knows she's pretty! She's posing for the camera!
She's also fast! Little Boy is looking for something under the shelf.
Squabbie and Little Boy must see the birds outside!

March 20-21, 2013

March 20, 2013
8am
Spring has sprung ... a leak! ;) I love rain. I will be using an umbrella for the first time in ... decades, I think! I will be walking to the bus stop in a bit. In the rain. Yay!

6pm
Got home at about 4 - an hour earlier than I expected. Got 2 stores serviced in Sacramento. I got rained on at one of my bus stops, but I had my umbrella with me. I loved it! Cloudy skies all day until I got home!

Tomorrow will be a very long day. I have 2 stores to service here in town. Then, I want to go to my insurance office and see about lowering or eliminating my car insurance and how I can insure my bike, if possible. Then, off to the farm to get milk, colostrum and eggs. I will be on my bike with the trailer all day.

March 21, 2013
3:15pm
I got to watching Criminal Minds and CSI last night and never finished my blogging.
I ended up rearranging my day from what I had planned. I took the car and serviced a store in Dixon, then went out to the farm, then did a few other errands. I'll do the 2 Woodland stores tomorrow and visit the insurance office on my bike. Will also stop at the local bike shop and see if they can get my seat to adjust better. I stopped there today and talked with them (for a bike shop that has been around for over a hundred years, they know nothing about ebikes, etrikes or conversions!) about a few biking things. I got a good local bike trail map and also a pair of chrome pant cuffs I needed.

8:30pm
Just watched an old Edison silent movie of A Christmas Carol from 1910! Amazing special effects for the times.

March 18, 2013

Noon
Just got back from a trip to the post office and store. Used the bike trailer to haul groceries home with the ebike. I love it!
Made room in the shed so that the bike fits in there much better. I 'might' be able to eventually get the other bike and the trailer in there once I get rid of some more stuff.

My mom got all of the cactus and succulants planted while I was gone. I was surprised.

March 17, 2013

11am
Walked Nikky to the mailbox and then got the rest of the weeds cut down and covered.
Going out after lunch to finally put that new part on the car. If I can find the right wrench to do it.
My mom is in a mood today ... fun - not ... mostly because I wouldn't change my plans to finish what I started yesterday with the weeds. She wanted me to help plant the cactus and succulants we bought last year and pull the weeds around the gas meters ... I said no, we'll do that next weekend. She's pouting.

Listening to Watch by Manfred Mann's Earth Band. This album has The Mighty Quinn. I used to sing this to Quinnie.

1:30pm
Discovered I don't have the right wrenches to change the part ... sucks.
So, I decided to see if the cart fits the ebike and it does!! Just took Nikky for a quick test drive. Her seatbelt works great in it. This will be so great to take her to the man-made pond for a walk on the trail there! Will also help to go to Yolo for the milk and eggs next week!!
6:30pm
I just won this for free, Crossword Puzzle Book - NEW

March 16, 2013

9:45am
Yesterday was a really nice day. I spent quite a bit of it outside. In the morning, I rode into town on the ebike, I just used the TAG, so no pedaling! Went to 3 banks (2 to get cash & one to pay a bill with it!), 2 stores and the bus terminal to get a cash pass for rides for the rest of the month (when I can't bike or take my car.) It was cloudy until just before noon. The rest of the day was sunny. After lunch, my mom and I worked in the garden. She replanted a bunch of lilies and irises along the side of the deck and mapped out where we need stepping stones on that side. I cut down more weeds ... that's never-ending. I didn't even get half of it done. Hope to finish that today and will lay out the cardboard that was the big box my ebike came in to hopefully kill off some of the weeds. Or, at least slow their growth until I can dig the roots up ...

My farmer emailed me last night. He must have known we were thinking of checking with him when raw milk would be available again. They just had a new calf born! He remembered I bought their colostrum before, so he thought he'd let me know that they'll have some this week! I asked him to freeze a gallon for me as I can't get out there until next Thurs. or Fri. I can't wait to get raw milk again! Plus, we are low on eggs. So, will be a good trip!

I got up very late today. Nearly 8:30! I'm still not really awake!
I need to get in gear. Going to walk Nikky to the mailbox to mail some swaps. And, my mom is already bugging me to work in the yard ... I really don't want to right now. I want to get more stuff listed online ...

Listening to The Ultimate Collection: The Spirit of the Irish.

11:45am
Ugh. Tired. Got the big patch of weeds cut and covered with the cardboard. Walked Nikky to the mailbox before I did that. She was happy and also happy to be outside while I chopped the weeds down. She's worn out, too! Sleeping right now! Wish I was ...
My mom got the old tomato plants dug up, but couldn't do any more today. She did too much yesterday, I guess ...
My mom is making sausage and eggs for lunch for us. Mmmm.

After lunch, I'll clean the doves' room. After that, I hope I can list a few things ...

Pretty day, today.

Listening to Glee: The Music, Volume 3 Showstoppers.
Chris Colfer really needs to do an album of his own!

1:15pm
I've been reading the Facebook posts about the young man who works at my co-op in Davis. He was the victim of a hate crime last weekend. In Davis, of all places! Some of the posts from his cousin made me cry. I've seen him many times when I shop there. A sweet guy. Thankfully, his attacker was arrested. He was attacked by his neighbor after his birthday party because he is gay ... so sad ... Check out Mikey's Justice Fund.

3pm
Got the doves done. Little Boy wanted to come out and fly around, but I wouldn't let him as Nicky and Ezra were in the room. He landed in my lap! I really need to let them all out for some exercise tomorrow.

Got a bunch of swaps packaged and working on a postcard for a swap.

Listened to Glee: The Music, Volume 4, Glee: The Music, Volume 5

6:15pm
Just finished a postcard. It's finally dry. Check it out on my craft blog.

Listened to Glee: The Music, Volume 6.

I just won this for free, PERSONAL FAN I got this to help dry my crafts more quickly! I've been wanting one for a while, but waiting for the glue to dry on the postcard I just made convinced me to find one. And, the only one available on Listia had a Get It Now button, so I used it!

March 14, 2013

8:30pm
OMG! I did it! I rode my bike about 45 miles today. From Woodland to Dixon and back. I am so tired and sore. Mostly saddle-sore! I am definitely going to look for a better seat. There is just not enough padding on the one that came with the bike!
If I hadn't gotten that second battery there was no way I could have done it. I mostly used the PAS (pedal-assist) setting, so both batteries lasted to the end of the ride with a little juice left-over. I think I used the TAG (touch and go) setting for about 10-15 miles, to give my legs a rest once in a while.
I also had to stop at a Dollar Tree and get some small bungee cords to tie my backpack on top of the battery holder as my back/shoulder was killing me with a 10-15 lb. burden. Was much more comfortable sitting up straight on the way home!
Tomorrow, I just need to ride around town and pay a couple of bills, so I'll be using TAG the whole way. No pedaling.

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

March 13, 2013

6:45pm
It was a really nice day today. I rode my bike to service a store here in Woodland. It didn't really take any longer than it would have to drive! It was another 4-hour day in a store, though. Tomorrow will be the same, but it will be the last one for this special project, thank goodness!
When I got home, my second battery for my bike arrived!! Two days before I expected it! I'm so glad! I can ride my bike to Dixon tomorrow!!! Yay! It will be a very long day, both working the store and riding the bike, but it will be worth it.
I'm charging the battery I used today and then will charge the new battery overnight. I had to re-read the auction listing for the new battery, as I thought it came with its own charger, but it does not. But, that's alright. The one that came with the bike is enough.

7:30pm
I just listened to this great Willie Garson interview about his adopting Nathen: Class #7: I Adopted A Kid

March 10, 2013

Noon
I've been organizing all my paperwork, files and forms for work today. My file cabinet was looking so disorganized. Almost done. Just have to get some printing done and get tomorrow's files ready.

Listening to Celtic Moods.

3:45pm
Listening to Celtic Myst.

It took most of the day to get my work files organized! That was just one drawer. I need to go through the other one, which is personal and house and car files ... another day for that one. Going to try to get some of my swapping and craft stuff organized now ... at least get some of them off the floor!

5:30pm
Listening to Irish Pipe & Tinwhistle Songs.

9pm
Watched episode 19 of Best of the West.

March 9, 2013

6pm
What a nice day - if it wasn't so windy!!
I road my ebike to Davis and back this morning! The way there went really smoothly. I stopped at the Nugget market to rest and found smelts! Haven't had them in years, so I bought 2 lbs. and had half for dinner tonight. Sooo good! Also, got 2 blood oranges. I've never had them before, so it is an experiment. I've been allergic to regular (Navel) oranges since I was born, but I can eat Mandarins and Clementines and tangerines with no problem. So far, I'm fine. So, maybe I can add bloods to the list of okay-to-eat oranges. My ride home was a little more difficult as I was fighting the wind ... had to pedal more and ran out of battery juice about a mile or so from home! Next time I will pedal more on the way there and use the battery on the way home!
When I got home, I searched eBay and found another battery! It should arrive next Thursday. That will double the distance I can cover on the ebike. Also, did more searches across the web for an etrike for my mom. She has really been bugging me about it. She's so worried about not having the car to use. Well, I'll be using it twice next week. The worst that could happen is I get a 'fix-it' ticket as the registration is paid. It just doesn't have a smog certificate yet.

Ugh. Now, she is bugging me about finishing the fence. Wants to know if she would be able to do it by herself ... um. No. Just no.

Went out to sit under the carport after dinner and read a chapter of Supernatural: One Year Gone. I've read a lot of it while riding the bus this week. I should be able to finish it next week.

Listening to  What a Wonderful Christmas by Louis Armstrong. Yes, Christmas. Hey, it's Satchmo. Who cares the season.

My biggest external hard drive is nearly full. I'm moving all of my audio files to the smaller hard drive, which mostly has graphics on it. I'm running out of room to store all my files! Need to get some of the music burned to CDs, I suppose. And, all the videos to DVDs ...

9:15pm
Watched episode 18 of Best of the West.

March 7, 2013

8am
Very chilly this morning. Might rain later, too. I don't think it's as windy as yesterday, though.
Walking to the post office again this morning and catching the bus to Davis from there. Have 2 stores to do for the special project today. May be a looooong day, depending on how much excess old glasses they have to credit out.

6:15pm
I am beyond tired this evening. I stressed myself out a bit today. I took a wrong credit form to one of the stores this morning and I forgot credit forms entirely for the other store, so have to do it tomorrow instead ... The store I did do took 4 freakin' hours!!! So, I stopped at the co-op afterwards and shopped and ate my lunch and then grabbed the bus home. It was almost 5 by then. Too long day.

My mom made fiery hot wings for dinner. OMG! It was so good, but so spicy!

Oh. There was no rain, but also no cold wind, either. So, nice cloudy day.

Listening to part 16 of Superman - The Man Without A Face. It's the last part of this serial. Will find another to listen to tomorrow.

9:45pm
I watched episode 15 of the old series Best of the West and episode 5 of The Doctor Blake Mysteries.

March 6, 2013

6pm
It was another nice, cloudy day. And, I saw a rainbow on my bus ride home! Pretty.
It was a long day, too. Walked to the Post Office at 9am, then caught my bus to West Sac. there. Got 3 stores serviced, but missed my bus home by about 5 minutes. So had to wait nearly an hour for the next one. Luckily, there was a bus shelter, as the wind was pretty brisk. Got home after 4, and it 'just' started sprinkling as I walked into my park. Good thing I had my eReader with me, too. Almost finished readingSupernatural: One Year Gone, tonight so I will have enough to read tomorrow.

8pm
Listened to part 15 of Superman - The Man Without A Face.

I watched episode 15 of the old series Best of the West.
Time for Criminal Minds and CSI.

March 5, 2013

4 pm
I love my bike!! I highly recommend ebikes. So cool!
I got 3 stores serviced, , went to the bank, paid 2 bills, picked up my new bike helmet (which I hate!!!!!) & bought a few more bike accessories, then picked up a couple things at the grocery store (not in that order.) I left at 9 and got home at 2:30! So, the bike is perfect to do my work here in Woodland right now. Once I get a second battery, I'll be able to do Davis and West Sacramento. Until then, I'm on the bus. I'm still trying to figure out how I'll get Dixon done. I'll probably have to take a bus to Davis (I'll have to wait for one with an empty bike rack) and ride my other bike to Dixon (I cannot lift my new bike onto a bike rack - waaaaay too heavy.) We'll see.
I forgot to take pictures of the bike. I'll go out in a bit and do that as I have to put something in the shed anyway.

OK, here are the pics:
You can see the old bike in the background with the trailer behind it.
The big black battery pack is not attached right now; it's in the house recharging. It slides down those 2 gray bars on the side of the back wheel.

I bought the little black pack down by the pedals to hold my tools and the wire basket for groceries, plus the rear-view mirror on the left handlebar. I got that because I forgot to take the one off the other bike this morning! So, now I have 2 and will put them both on the bike. The blue U-lock I had bought last week when I rode my other bike and had forgotten the key to the lock on it! So, now each bike has its own lock. Lucky that the new one matches the bike and the new helmet! I'll probably paint that basket blue!

6:45pm
My mom says the power was out until right before I got home, just as scheduled. Boy, I timed that perfectly! haha. The trucks were still on our little road when I came home. And, I had to ride around the huge transformer laying on the street (part of what they replaced, along with the pole.) Sadly, even though I had the letter posted on the kitchen cabinet to remind us about the power going out today ... I forgot to turn my computer off before I left ... so it did a few funky things when I got home and then re-booted itself. Seems to be fine now, though.

8pm
Listened to part 12 of Superman - The Man Without A Face.

I watched episode 12 of the old series Best of the West.

Tonight is the season finale of White Collar!

March 4, 2013

6:30am
Teabag covers! I have them all over. But, I am missing two ziplock bags full of them that I had on auction. A set has been won. I can't find them! Going crazy looking for them ... they seem to have gotten misplaced when I rearranged the furniture the other day ... gah!

7:30am
Happy to say that I found the teabag covers! In the closet ... I have no idea why ... But, at least I can get them mailed this morning!

5:30pm
Whew! What a looooooong day! My back is killing me from carrying the backpack, but I'll get used to it. I got home at 3:30, which is a couple of hours sooner than I expected. I made good time and didn't miss any transfers. I got the 2 stores serviced as planned, paid 2 bills, and stopped at both Trader Joe's & the Co-op!

Aaaaand! My new ebike was waiting for me when I got home!!! I spent the past hour putting it together. It was really easy. And, I made room in the shed for it. It has it's own garage!! I am charging the battery overnight, so it will be ready for a test drive in the morning and then off to work with it. I am servicing 3 stores here in town, so if there is a problem as I learn to use it, I am close to home. It sure is a very heavy bike and very sturdy. I already like it. It is the right size for me (my other bike is too short and it is uncomfortable for long distance.) And, it's a pretty blue! I will take pictures of it tomorrow. And, I'm happy to say, it has key locks for the battery, so it is not easily stolen. That was one of my main worries of whether I was going to have to carry that heavy-ass battery with me whenever I parked the bike at a store!!!

Time for FOOD! I'm starving! Even though I brought food with me, I burned a lot of it with all the walking I did.

9:30pm
Grrrr. Reading all the info on the bike and I discovered that in CA. I DO have to wear a damn helmet, even though I'm over 16, since the bike is 'motorized.' I just ordered one from WalMart and will pick it up in the morning before I start servicing my stores. I found one the same color as my bike! Hopefully, no cops will see me on the way ...

Noon
Another nice day, although some might say it is a bit gloomy. But, I love cloudy days (and hope of rain!) that have a nice temp. to be out in.
Just got back from the grocery store with my mom. Spent too much, as usual. Didn't go to the co-op, but I'll stop there tomorrow since I will be servicing stores in Davis. Will be taking the bus. We shopped at the local BelAir around the corner. It was the last trip for the car. I'm going to go out and rearrange all my store supplies in the trunk for easy access, so I can just grab a few things each morning that I work. Then, I'll arrange my new backpack and the bag I normally use to carry everything I'll need. I got part of it done the other day, but still a few things to do. And, then, I'll map my route for the quickest transfers.

I still need to clean the doves' cages since I couldn't yesterday with that migraine I had ...

Oh, bought my mom a cake pop as a splurge for her birthday since we didn't go to Pig Day yesterday. We haven't had anything like that in months! I know it has wheat and other crap in it, but it was a 'treat' and small.

I just won this for free, NIP 5" Star Plastic Canvas

9am
Well, the headache I had yesterday did morph into a migraine. We had planned on grocery shopping today, but I nixed that idea this morning ... grrr.

My mom is 73 today.

Just listened to this interview! The Barrowmans talk to Graham Norton I can't wait to get Bone Quill! I bought Hollow Earth already. And, now they are working on the third in the trilogy. I haven't started reading Hollow Earth yet as I am reading the Supernatural books right now. But, these books sound like a lot of fun!

I need to walk to the mailbox in a little while. Nikky will like that.

Check out one of my popular designs!

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson have nothing on these adorable detectives.

10:30am
I just installed a couple of little programs to control the brightness of my monitor. I like them, so far. One is f.lux & the other is pangobright.

11:30am
I walked to the mailbox. Nikky was upset as I didn't take her ... Had to mail a few swaps. I didn't get ANY mail ... :(

Need to make a couple of ATCs for swaps, but the migraine is still distracting me ...

Listening to The Irish Rovers Greatest Hits

6:15pm
Oh, man. Dinner was sooo good. I wish I'd taken a picture for the food blog. Side of lamb ribs coated in homemade BBQ sauce. Mmmmm. I could've eaten more!

It's nice outside again tonight. Went out and read a chapter in Supernatural : War of the Sons.

Listening to Irish Pub Classics.

Still have a migraine. Hope I can sleep it off. We need to go shopping tomorrow. So much more I have to get done, too. I need to get all my work stuff organized to take the bus on Monday.

I watched episode 11 of the old series Best of the West.

Huh. Migraine's gone. Just like that. In time for bed ... What a wasted day of pain.

March 1, 2013

3pm
OMG! I am tired and have a headache. But, I did it! I rode my bike around this side of town. I think I covered about 10 miles. I made plenty of stops to rest. I left at 9 and got home around 1. Paid several bills, went to the post office, got a few groceries, went to the bus terminal and got some info. I am happy with my results, even though I know I will be very sore over the weekend.

WalMart has shipped my ebike this morning. So, hopefully, it will arrive on Monday. My mom wants me to find out if 3-wheel bikes can be fitted with a battery kit. She's always wanted a 3-wheel bike, but now with her bad knee, she wouldn't be able to pedal too long. So, I will be looking into it.

Got some swaps in the mail. Afraid to open the one from Germany - it was crushed in transit ... Ah, luckily, nothing inside was damaged! Ooh, banana chips. Yum. Just banana, coconut oil and honey! Eating some now. Also, got some unusual teas in another swap. Can't wait to try them.

My mom will be 73 tomorrow. I was going to take her to Pig Day at the Davis Farmers' Market tomorrow (we went last year.) But, her knee is acting up, so she doesn't want to go. But, we'll go do some grocery shopping at the BelAir down the road, instead. Going to drive the car (just hope no cops see my expired license plate sticker ...)

6:30pm
Damn headache I woke up with is morphing into a migraine, I think ...
It's nice outside. Went out and read a chapter in Supernatural : War of the Sons. Nikky played with Chewy and Styx for a few minutes. They live 2 doors down, but always wander our part of the street when their human Kelly is outside.
