July 28, 2013

1:30pm
I've really not been feeling great the past few days. And, it's all my fault. I've been eating too much cacao (chocolate) recently and have the sores in my mouth to prove it. I have a caffeine allergy and that is how it manifests - mouth ulcers. Makes me feel awful since I can't really eat easily. So, lots of liquid nourishment. Thank goodness for smoothies ... except I keep putting cacao powder in them, too! Arrggh!
I also have a headache, but I think it is stress as it hasn't morphed into a migraine ...
Took my mom to the store earlier and I saw this cute kokopelli and had to have it. It was only $5. It's 14.5 inches tall.
And, yeah, I really need to dust.

Took my mom to WalMart to pick out a new TV for her room. Since our big TV went out a few weeks ago, she's been using one of our small ones and it is too small for her to see across her bedroom. So, I'm getting her a 32" Samsung. Our first flat-screen and first TV over 29" ... will have it in a few days, I think.

4pm
Another busy day.
I serviced 2 stores in Davis
stopped at the Co-op for food
got all my paperwork done
replaced more screws on the mobile home skirting (have 1 side and the back done)
cleaned the dishwasher

got the RoboSweeper running - it's a piece of crap, but the critters are enjoying stalking it (pics below)

5:30pm
Look at this massive artichoke! Mmmm. Having leftover pork roast with it ... and raw milk, of course.

July 21, 2013

5:45pm
Well, this day was certainly not what I had planned ... I had planned to replace screws on the siding
clean my desk
clean my bathroom closet
clean the vent hood over the stove
make hard-boiled eggs

I replaced about 1/4 of the screws - it took 2 hours! Will do more throughout the week
cleaned half my desk
did not clean the closet
cleaned the outside of the vent hood, still need to clean inside/under it
I did make hard-boiled eggs!

I got side-tracked from much of it because my cousin, Curtis, came over with some more of his mom's stuff and news about his crazy brother and his own health ... I got a brand-new memory foam pillow and a Roomba sweeper, both still in the box! Jeanne was always buying stuff and never using ... He's going to get my car checked out and smogged and try to sell it for me and giving me one of his cars. A 2002 gold Camry. Very nice car. He'll keep the money from selling the Tercel. We'll probably take it Friday to get it checked out and see what it will take to fix it to pass smog. He's probably going to have to have yet another heart surgery and is really worried this time (he has a congenital defect that has caused a lot of problems and surgeries over the years) and asked me to be his executor ... :( just in case ...

July 20, 2013

8:30am
Well, the plan for the day will keep me busy again ...
clean the rabbits' and doves' cages and floors under them
clean Nikky's yard
wash two loads of laundry
strip and paint the post to Papa's old lamp (I'll finish updating it one of these days!)
hammer in all the nails on the decks and steps that have worked their way up
vacuum my bedroom
make sun tea
make lemonade
barbecue dinner

Turns out the worry about the fridge yesterday may have been unfounded ... when I finally moved the stuff out of the hot freezer last night, I found that a lot of the stuff had gotten shoved up against the vent in the back of it causing loss of air circulation! I checked it this morning and it is very cold in there! :) But, I needed to get the chest freezer going again, anyway. I really need to start stocking up on meat again, rather than buying a couple of packs here and there. So, I cleaned the fridge and we'll move most of the stuff back in there that got stuffed into the other fridge! haha!

3pm
I got everything done I had planned, plus a few more little things. I even had the doves and rabbits out on the porch for a while. Robin was just in a tantrum mood, though, and kept slamming his hay manger. Made most of the hay fly out of it, down into his clean tray ... brat.
Just got the BBQ set up for later. We're having spicy pork ribs.

July 19, 2013

8:30am

Wow. Can't believe it's been nearly two weeks since I blogged here! I've been so busy with work and trying to figure out a plan for getting my mobile home painted, time just got away from me. But, really, that's nothing new!
So, the plans for the day are ...
to drop off mail at the post office
get a few things at the store
go to the farm for milk
put up the new smoke detectors (I got mad and broke the one in my mom's room recently, so had to replace it and got an extra for the kitchen)
put up the rest of the kitchen & my mom's bathroom curtains (we finally found the rest of the panels!)
paint the hardware for the curtain swags for the doves' room and put them up
wash two loads of laundry
find a bucket with a lid to store the rabbits' hay in
clean the fish tanks and top them off with water
work on the car (some day I will get it to pass the smog test ...)

4:15pm
Whew! Somehow, I got all that done ... although, I'm never sure of the car ...

Made a yummy milkshake for lunch - banana cacao. I've actually made it three times this week, it is so good!

We'll have to keep an eye on our second fridge. It was 42F in the fridge and most of the stuff in the little freezer was thawing out. Not good. It was my dad's fridge, so not positive how old it is. Turned up the dials and will check later to see if that helped. If not, I may have to change out some parts. I may have to turn the chest freezer back on, or all my frozen fruit will be ruined ...

Going to have leftovers for dinner later. Pork steak, wild rice blend and broccoli with melted pepper jack cheese. And, raw milk. Yum.

5:15pm
Sooo good.
Listening to Sha Na Na ... haven't heard their music for yeeeears.

Waiting for the chest freezer to get cold. Wiped it out before dinner and turned it on and reset the dial. Moved all the perishables out of the sick fridge and squeezed them into the good fridge. Will move the semi-frozen fruit into the chest freezer in a bit.

The annoying thing is ... we had another perfectly working fridge when we moved in 3.5 years ago, for a total of 3 fridges, but had no room for it and had to get rid of it ... ugh. With the amount of produce and fresh foods I like to keep, I need more than one working fridge!

I need to re-organize my swap groups on Swap-Bot. I don't do any international swaps any more due to the cost of postage and extra hassle. But, some of the groups I am in that were supposed to be US only seem to have added international when I wasn't looking! Will be leaving those groups. I think I might open my own thrifting swap group for US-only. I love doing thrift swaps.

7pm
Just joined a bunch of fun swaps and added more groups (deleted a few, too) so should be a fun mix. Still thinking of opening my own thrifty group ... pondering ... or, might just host some non-group thrifty swaps ... hmmm.

Listening to Bobby Goldsboro music. I was a big fan when I was a kid. I always made sure to watch him on the Mike Douglas and Merv Griffin shows. He was a funny guy. I can still remember when he talked about breaking his big toe on a Rice Krispy!

July 8, 2013

4:15pm
I have too much going on right now ...
Work is getting insane again (or still ...) with too many projects for too many chains happening at once and a waaaay too short deadline for some of them and limited hours to do them all in ...

Last week, I was told by park management that I had to clean my trailer since it can be seen from the street (above the sound wall) and it looks dirty and moldy. So, I spent Saturday morning cleaning it. Guess what?! It is not dirty (well, dusty) or moldy. The paint is peeling from the gutters! So, guess what cleaning did ... peeled more paint off, so it looks worse! So, getting a free estimate for gutter replacement. But, just so I can know a good price to pay my neighbor, plus the parts needed. His wife volunteered him. ;) But, I am hoping that he will actually want to just paint everything. Will be much easier all-around, I think. So, I also got paint chips and will stop at the manager's office tomorrow for approval on the colors. Thank goodness, I have a lot of credit at Home Depot. I'm going to need it! Just have to save cash to pay Martin.
I also bought a grill cover and a heavy-duty cover for the A/C when it's not in use, new smoke alarms and new fire extinguisher (the one I have is way more than ten years old.)
Tomorrow is going to be a busy day. I need to service 3 stores each day this week ... I didn't work today, as I had my schedule all set. I get home and I see 2 more stores added to my list that have huge projects. Not fair!
Got a letter in the mail from PG&E. They will be replacing the gas lines in this area this month and next. The roads will be a mess and I will be paranoid about gas leaks and explosions until they are done. I have a huge problem with gas and can't stand that I have to use it for the furnace and hot water heater (I was not allowed to replace them with electric due to some local laws and also not enough capacity on my electrical box ...) So glad I got the countertop electric oven and stove, so I don't have to use the gas oven and stove any more.

8:15pm
I just spent the past few hours trying to get all of my paperwork ready for the week. I am really having some issues lately with FireFox and Adobe. There is some kind of compatability problem with .pdf files not opening in the browser. I finally had to dig out IE, just so I could get the work done. I have a lot of files to print. Still have more for some projects coming up. But, tired of fighting with it! I already uninstalled/reinstalled all of my Adobe programs yesterday. I guess tomorrow, I'll have to scrap FireFox and start from scratch with it and hope that fixes the problem!

July 4, 2013

7pm
Well, the year is half over ... went too quickly ... more of our heatwave today. It got to 106F today.
It was a pretty busy day around the house.

It was so hot overnight. I don't think it went below 80F. So, I couldn't sleep. Got up about 5am. Played online jigsaw puzzles for a while. Then got up at 7 and took Nikky out. Hung the flag out. Fed all the critters. Washed a load of clothes. Got the cream separated from the raw milk and re-bottled the milk. Boiled a dozen eggs. Finished the lamb bone broth and strained it, jarred it and put it in the freezer. Finished hanging the curtains in the doves' room that I didn't have enough rings for the other day - still need to get the side hooks and sash cords to hold the panels open to the side during the day. Made two quarts of sun tea. Moved my mom's big TV ... again! ... and hooked the digital cable box up for her. And, barbecued ribs! Still waiting for the coals to cool, so I can put the ashes out and clean the BBQ and bring it inside.

So many things are going on with work, etc. that I have gotten so far behind in the news on Twitter, G+ and Facebook - though I did see about the awful Yarnell fire and the great news that John Barrowman and Scott Gill got legally married!! I'll never catch up. But, maybe that is a good thing. Maybe I am slowly weaning myself off of them. I unfollowed a bunch of people and sites recently. I may do more this weekend. I reallllllly need to get back into creating and advertising to make some more money. I'm starting to catch up on some of my surveys that I make money with. I just cashed out over $50 yesterday. I really need it! I haven't created anything in ages. I have a batch of paper beads (among other things) that need to be finished ... just sitting on the shelf ... waiting ...

I also finally watched Behind the Candelabra today. It wasn't bad, but now I really want to read the book.

Supposedly, today is the last of the 100F+ heatwave. It is still 102F at 7:35pm ... back down to the 90s tomorrow.

10pm
Fireworks seem to have started really late around here. Which is good, as it's so hot and dry this past week or so. But, I am too tired to go out on my deck and watch ...
