February 27, 2014

12:30pm
The morning has flown by! I went to the store, got gas, got hay, and stopped at the farm for milk and eggs. I got enough extra milk to start my kefir again! I'm having a strawberry kefir smoothie for lunch. Nikky got to lick the old jars and the pitcher and sieve. She's happy! Hopefully, next week I'll be able to take some grains to the farm. The farmer's brother was asking if I had any extras.

I didn't go to the co-op. I will tomorrow. So, I foraged when I got home. These rains are really making the 'weeds' grow, which in the past was a big pain, but now that I have the boys it's great!

6pm
Dinner was ground Angus patty spiced with dried onion, salt and pepper, with leftover wild rice/quinoa blend mixed with leftover beans. And, raw milk with potato starch.

Just finished making a button fairy for a swap.

 7:30pm
Mmm. Found a hot chocolate recipe in my local grocery store's monthly recipe book. I'm going to try. It's Spicy Carob Cocoa, but I don't have any carob right now so I am using cacao powder. Here's the recipe that I modified for my 12 oz mug:
Combine 12 oz. milk of choice, 1 ½ Tablespoons of cacao powder, ¾ teaspoon cinnamon and a pinch of cardamom. Heat; stir until well combined, then stir in 2 tsp. sweetener (I used raw honey.) Makes one drink.

9:30pm
Just got an alert that rainstorms will start again at about 2am! Yay! It's going to be a long, wet day. I'll have to be really wary of other drivers and try not to be on much of the freeway. Good I know a lot of back-ways to my stores!

February 26, 2014

10am
It's raining! I didn't expect it until this afternoon!

I just got back from the bank. Applied for the loan ... well, not really a loan ... it's a credit card that you can transfer the balances of other credit cards onto to have just one payment ... so, I will find out in about ten days if I got it. If not, I will try for an actual loan at one of my other banks ... this bank only does equity loans and since I have a mobile home, that can't be done ... but, my other bank does personal loans ... all this stuff stresses me ...

I need to go out in the rain and forage for the boys later ...

Not sure what I want to do today. I might knit later ... guess I can straighten my messy office ...

11:45am
Just found out Ripper Street will be coming back for a third season thanks to a deal Amazon made with the BBC! That is such a cool show!

Auction: 10 Tea Bag Covers, plus 4 tea tags - for crafts - USED

I made a really yummy ginger/strawberry slushie for lunch!
I used all the same main ingredients (I had ground ginger rather than fresh) and 1 teaspoon maple syrup & 6 ice cubes for the add-ons. It is really good and has a nice kick from the kombucha!

I need to go out and forage in the rain, now.

1:30pm
Lots of good 'weeds' for the boys' dinner tonight and breakfast in the morning. Even got some good-sized milkweeds.

4:30pm
It's been pouring rain for a couple of hours. I love the sound of it hitting the carport awning.

5:30pm
Dinner was pork shoulder steak seasoned with Trader Joe's 21 Seasoning Salute, wild rice and quinoa blend, and milk with potato starch.

8pm
A new Criminal Minds tonight, but an hour later than normal (damn Survivor ...) and no CSI!

February 25, 2014

5pm
Another pretty day. The clouds are starting to move in a little, though. Supposed to start raining tomorrow night and last for about 5 days. We really need it!

Dinner is yummy. Pork steak, tomatoes with chili powder and mascarpone, and raw milk with potato starch.

8pm
I love Perception. It is a really good show and makes you think! Lots of twists in tonight's episode!

9pm
I was not happy with part of the bunny box. I think some things from the salad bar got put in one of the bins they use for the animal food (it is for rabbits, chickens, hogs, goats ...) as there was some sort of vinegary liquid - smelled kind of like olive brine. I normally don't have to 'clean' the food, but I definitely had to tonight as it was kind of icky. I had to feed some of it to George (garbage disposal) as I know the boys would not have touched it. :( Oh, well. My mom and I have plans to forage tomorrow (weed the iris bed.) So, they will have plenty of food tomorrow.

I am going to the bank tomorrow and try to get that loan to combine some of my bills. Hope I can get it and my calculations are right and I will have a smaller regular payment than I had before I became late on them ...

February 24, 2014

4pm
It's been a fairly nice day. Very pretty out. I just came in from foraging for the boys. I'll have to in the morning, too. Nice, fresh food for them! I'll get them a bunny box from the co-op before I come home tomorrow.

I got 2 stores serviced this morning and was home by 1pm.

Nikky had no accidents in bed and none all day. Normal poop outside for the first time in about 4 days. The bone broth yesterday and laying in the sun while I painted for 2 days did her some good, I think.

I've been doing some more reading on kombucha-making, as well as water kefir. I think I am going to ferment the kombucha for a few days less than I have been now that it is getting warmer. This last batch was a bit too vinegary for me, even with the vanilla in the second ferment (which I only did for 2 days, rather than 3.) I think I will do the first ferment for 10, rather than 14 days and see how that goes.

7pm
100 jumps on the trampoline. Plus, 20 bounces for Nikky! She really gets upset when I don't do that!

8:30pm
Using the Knifty Knitter short straight knitting loom to make the bunny blankets. I like this loom best. I do NOT like the long straight loom that I have. It is a different brand (Boye) and the pegs are too tall and spaced too far apart. I really want to get a Knifty Knitter long straight loom if I am going to be making a lot of these bunny blankets. As it is, I am going to have to make 2 or 3 panels and join them ...

Today was the first day in MONTHs that I've been able to go barefoot outside. Love it! My feet were tingly and happy to be touching the ground and my squats were more comfortable whenever I was waiting for Nikky.

I should have made sun tea! Maybe there will be enough sun when I get home tomorrow before the clouds and rain are supposed to arrive on Wednesday ... If I get home early enough I will make some!

Going to watch the last 3 episodes of The Michael J. Fox Show and I will be caught up. Not sure if there will be any more, though.

February 23, 2014

8:30am
I have a bit of a stomach ache this morning. Probably all those dead nuts I ate yesterday ...

Nikky messed her bed again last night! Gave her some broth this morning and she loved it. She's still eating and drinking well and perky. So, I have no idea why she's having this messy problem!

Starting a second load of laundry ...

9:45am
Got the kitchen floor cleaned and the cupboards vacuumed.

Now, to get the knitting machine set-up and the yarn cast-on done.

1:45pm
The knitting machine is frustrating me. Can't get the darn yarn to cast on correctly. So, I had to stop and go out to paint for about 90 minutes. I did two little sections. Very light breeze, so I was able to use the ladder!
I won't be able to paint again for at least a week, since I have work the next 3-4 days and then we are supposed to have more rain (yay!) later this week and maybe through the weekend.

Time to get back to the knitting machine!

3:15pm
OK. So, I give up! The knitting machine will not co-operate! So, it is retired until I can replace some things on it or replace the whole thing ... I'll stick with my trusty little looms.

6pm
Well, I decided to teach myself some more crochet. I'd be doing great if I could just get the tension consistent. I always have a mix of too tight, just right and too loose ... then, I pull the chain and start over ...

100 jumps on the trampoline.

Ooh, I think I figured out knitting! With pencils! I can't find the old knitting needles that I know I have somewhere ... I definitely need to find them or buy new ones. The pencils work, but are not ideal (they aren't the same size, etc.) They are actually an old mechanical pencil with the lead pulled in, so I don't get it on the yarn & an old pen. I like knitting more than crochet, I think ... too soon to really tell, though ...
Knitting without needles. First try. Using an ugly orange yarn to practice on. Stitches are a bit uneven and tight ...
7:45pm
Looks like I will need to get a circular set of knitting needles to make the blankets I want to make or I will have a LOT of little squares to piece together! I was going to make them on the looms ... but, the yarn is too thin and that made the weave too open. I need a tight weave so the boys don't get their toes or feet caught in them when the dig on them. Also, so it will soak up their pee ...

Going to watch a couple more episodes of The Michael J. Fox Show. Too bad the series didn't get picked up for a second season.

February 22, 2014

10:45am
Got all the critters cages and bowls cleaned. Nikky was sick in her bed again last night and still is whenever she pottys ... But, no loss of appetite! Still perky, too! Weird ...

Have 2nd load of laundry going ...

Just relaxing for a while before I go out and PAINT!! It is a pretty day. There is a breeze that I hope doesn't pick up more, though. But, I will at least get some of the wall done.

Need food ...
I made a chai latté-raw milk-potato starch concoction in the blender. Not bad!

Bone broth will be done this afternoon. I just added some spices that need to soak in ...

3pm
Well, I got a good 90 minutes of painting done. Of course, the wind picked up, so no ladder work. So, I stood on a stack of pavers! I got most of the furnace door done, though! I honestly did a half-assed job on it because it needs to be replaced. It's very flimsy and I've had to re-drill a lot of holes to get it to stay in its frame because the wind has torn it off the wall in the past ... tomorrow, I hope to do more painting.
This is what I had done previously.
This is what I got done today.

I did three loads of laundry, too ...

I just finished making a new batch of kombucha and doing a 2nd ferment on the previous batch with added vanilla! That will be ready Monday. Mmmm. I hope to send out a promised SCOBY (or 2!) next week. I've now got about 8 or 10 extras in my little SCOBY hotel. I need to start making more! I may cut one up in the morning and see if Nikky will eat a piece. Her tummy needs the good bacteria.

Snacking on roasted, salted cashews and pecans. Not a fan of dead nuts, but I am out of raw and had to get these at Home Depot ...

5pm
Bone broth is jarred and cooling. Made 6 pints this time! And, my mom is going to make some beans tomorrow to put the meat in that fell off the bones. Will give Nikky some broth in the morning, too.

Dinner - half of a London Broil. Rubbed with garlic salt and Cajun seasoning. And, raw milk with potato starch. The meat was kind of dry. Not enough fat!!! :(

Listening to a podcast from Extreme Health Radio - Donna Gates interview. About gut health and how it connects all of your health ...

7:15pm
Having Kalahari Café Artisan ChocoLatté Black tea Hazelnut Mocha with added Dagoba Cacao Powder, vanilla, maple syrup and raw milk. So good!

100 jumps on the trampoline.

8:15pm
I think tomorrow morning I will be casting on the yarn to start the bunny blankets on the knitting machine. I really need to get that done. Their towels are really getting holey! I need to make at least 4 to start with. And, more in the future. I want them to be about 22x22 for the first batch. Later I want to make a bunch of 22x36 to fit the trays. I'll need about 14 of those, at least, so I can clean the cages daily instead of weekly. That's the plan, anyway. Just hope the keyplates on the machine last until I can replace them (2 are cracked, but still useable.)

I'm going to catch up on a couple of episodes of The Michael J. Fox Show now that the critters are fed/in bed. I'm behind about 6 episodes!

February 21, 2014

8:30am
Almost time to leave. Just hope I don't run out of gas! I need to go to the Davis co-op for bunny food and then to West Sacramento to service 3 stores.

Nikky was sick in her bed again last night. :( But, she's still eating and drinking water ...

4:15pm
Loong day. Tired. Pretty day, though. 72F! If I'd gotten home earlier, I might have done some painting. If it is this nice tomorrow, I will be painting in the afternoon. I might get the back of the house done ...

6:45pm
I joined a FB group about Edible Wild Plants. Lots of interesting pictures/articles. I hope to eventually find a foraging group in my area. I know most of the plants that sprout up in my little yard, but want to branch out so I don't have to rely on the co-op to feed the bunnies all the time. Especially if I do eventually get some does and start raising my own meat ...

I went to Home Depot to get some snacks and a couple of surge plugs. I looked at their flooring again and found some I don't remember seeing before. It is ideal. I have always wanted wood floors, but they are not that great with water or critters peeing on them long-term. They have porcelain tile that looks like wood! I want! So, that is my goal after the house is painted. Finish tearing out the carpeting and then get the wood-look tiles!

February 20, 2014

11am
This day sucks. I am never going to catch up on my late bills at this rate ... or, get enough food to last more than a week at a time ... Or, get my mom to stop making me feel useless ... next week, we have to make time to get that loan to combine and get rid of the credit cards ...

I was able to go to the farm for milk and eggs. I love getting there while they are milking and getting the freshest milk! I'm going to wake up my milk kefir grains tomorrow before my mom uses all the milk again. Not going to start my yogurt culture, yet, that I got for my birthday. I hope to start getting a third gallon of milk each week, starting next month ... I hope ...
I think I killed my ginger bug ... ran out of ginger and sugar and no money this week to get more ... oh, well. I'll try again next month.

I may have to get snacks (jerky & nuts) from Home Depot again ... I really don't want to ...

Nikky was sick overnight again, and this morning right before I left. Giving her charcoal before bed didn't help ... So, I got a late start on everything this morning. I wouldn't have gotten to my stores in West Sacramento until after 11, which would not have given me time to get them all done before dark ... So, I'll get them done tomorrow. I also could only get $10 in gas ... so not enough to even last me through to Monday. So, not working Monday and most likely will be riding my eBike on Tues. & Wed. to go to do Davis stores. Not looking good right now ...

Going to start some bone broth - plain with no veggies.

12:30pm
Feeling better now. I was getting depressed earlier. Having been sick the past couple of weeks has really pushed my stress limits ...

Having a yummy strawberry/mint smoothie. Frozen strawberries, fresh mint leaves, raw milk, maple syrup and vanilla. Yum.

Going to get those envelopes made that I cut out pictures for last night.

3:45pm
I got 5 envelopes made in between taking Nikky out to potty ... numerous times. Poor baby. Rubbed some peppermint oil in her ears a little bit ago and she is resting now. Hope it helped a little.

5:30pm
Just read about a money-saving challenge and I am going to try it ... at the lowest level. Since I am broke! You can find it here and there are some great templates to print out to keep you on track. So, I have printed out the template for .25c per week and I have it in my jar now!

Watching Roy Rogers Show on fetv. Simple fun.

Oh, now it's Lone Ranger time!

I think Nikky might be feeling better. She wanted her bowl filled. And, she's now in her favorite place in my desk chair seat behind me (so I can't lean back ...)

Having Kalahari Café Artisan ChocoLatté Black tea Hazelnut Mocha with added Dagoba Cacao Powder and raw milk. So good!

I am thinking more and more about breeding rabbits again ... It's just not feasible until I replace the floors (get rid of the damn carpeting ...) And, replace the big deck and enclose it ... that is still a few years away ... :( And, get more rolling cages ... I really like the ones I bought for the boys last year.

10pm
Just finished an ATC for a slash swap. Theme was Love. Showing a favorite pairing ... Of course, I chose Jack and Daniel of Stargate. I used some artwork I made a few years ago and scaled it down to print. Then, used rubber stamp letters and a star sticker, with some glitter glue. It's kind of cute.

8:45am
Already time to go to work ... glad I'm only doing a couple of stores here in town today. Not enough gas to go out of town ... if it was warmer, I would ride my eBike ... can't wait until I can!! It's a nice sunny day, but still too cool for me this morning.

Nikky's not feeling well this morning. Not sure what she got into or what might have upset her tummy.

6pm
Nikky still doesn't feel good.

I have 2 great coupons for my QuinGem's Creations Little Online Shoppe! Check it out - coupons!

I might have to give Nikky some charcoal in the morning if she's not feeling better ...

I need to make some envelopes. I'm nearly out of them. Little envelopes for letters or cards. I have plenty of large ones. Time to cut pictures out of magazines and catalogs.

Just saw a commercial for ZzzQuil. I can't believe the crap people will put into their bodies! Made my mom think of an old cough syrup that my dad used to take called Rem cough syrup. I had to look it up. I don't remember it. She said he would only take that one because he grew up with it. It would knock him out. The ingredients were mostly alcohol, chloroform and some actual real herbs. Crazy.
