It's gonna be a hot one today. I have the doors and some windows open and the bucks are out on the deck for some morning sun. I'll roll them back inside when it starts getting too warm for them.

First load of laundry is in the washer. Exercises done.

I need to go forage today and clean Nikky's yard before the guy comes to service the A/C.

9:45am
Yard cleaned. Watering outside is done. Foraging done. Birdbath done. Second load of laundry is in the dryer. The first load is hanging on the drying rack and the inside clothesline. Third load is in the washer and will be hung on the outside clothesline.

1pm
Still waiting for the A/C guy ...

Fifth load of laundry in the wash ...

Listened to another great Daniel Vitalis interview. Such wisdom.

4:15pm
So, finally get to relax a bit. Maintenance is done on the A/C, the bucks are back inside and the house is closed up with the air on for a bit. It is 93F outside right now.

This A/C guy was much better than the one last year. He showed me the parts that should be replaced and explained what their problem was. They are OK for now, but one really should be replaced this year. I got an estimate ... over $500 for the two parts and labor and that is WITH my service plan discount! So, I looked them up on eBay! Less than $50 for both parts - NEW. I will be getting the contactor first as that is the one going out. The capacitor is the more expensive of the two and that will have to wait. I should be able to get the contactor next week. Both are very simple to replace. I need to take the panel off tomorrow and get the model # and other info from the part.

I am going to set up my seed sprouting in a bit. Luckily, I (for some reason!) kept 6 green strawberry baskets last year. Now, they may come in handy. I'm going to line them with a square of muslin and put the seeds on them. And, they will sit on an old cookie sheet. I never can seem to get seeds to sprout in canning jars very well. So, will try this idea.

7:15pm
Oh, new Criminal Minds and CSI tonight! Yay!

I've been listening to a Chris Kresser podcast this afternoon ... two hours ... It's good, but the interview style is kind of boooring ... still good info, though. http://solvingleakygut.com/ck-webinar-replay/

10pm
Well, I got mylittle sprouting baskets set up. I put muslin on the bottom of them. The sprouts are pre-soaking in filtered water. I'll get them in the baskets and take pics tomorrow.

Criminal Minds was really good as usual. The ending was cute with little Jack's class. Jack is getting so big! CSI ... it was one of their worst episodes, I think. It was the pilot for their newest spin-off, which I definitely will not be watching. I can't stand Patricia Arquette and her character was awful. The regulars were as good as always, but she really dragged the episode down, in my opinion. A lot of it did not make sense ... but I hope Hodges adopts the dog ... ;) it was cute.

April 29, 2014

6:45pm
Damn. There's only 30 days in this month. Tomorrow's it. April will be over. I think it went pretty quickly! Feels like it, anyway.

I got 3 stores serviced today. I'm off tomorrow because I have the A/C maintenance man coming for the yearly check-up sometime ... you know how that is ... And, Thursday, I have a lot of errands. But, Friday I have 2 stores to service with lots of projects to do. The heat is going to be bad for those days, too. It got to 92°F today ... I've got my ice pack to keep cool. I didn't want to turn on the air today. My mom has her fan on (and, it's drying my eyes out! It's across the room, but blowing through my desk!) I hate stand fans!

Damn. I may have to close the doors and turn on the A/C. The noisy neighbor's music is getting louder. I tried to read outside earlier and couldn't even concentrate on more than one chapter ... It's still 90°F, so I might for a little while ... Even though the door's open, it still feels stuffy in here.

The air is on. Why is her fan still on!? Ugh. I want to move my office back in my bedroom ... :/

9pm
Finally, I can get some relief. The fan is off and everyone else is in bed. My eyes are still burning. May have to rinse them with water. I moved her fan and if she tries to move it again tomorrow ... there will be yelling ...

I have an email photo scavenger hunt swap tomorrow! I forgot about it, actually. Shame on me! I love doing them! I have lots of pics to take tomorrow!

8:15am
Chilly this morning, but the heat is coming. It should be in the 70s today, but will jump up to the 90s the rest of the week. I dread that!
Exercises done. Bacon and eggs cooking for breakfast. I have 3 stores to service in Dixon today. I'm also going to the co-op in Davis for bunny greens and some sugar. I need to change the hummer feeders and make kombucha!

3pm
I got 3 stores serviced. Yay, me. Also, got the sugar. Heating the water for the hummingbirds food now.

Outside birds are fed. I made extra to keep in the fridge. Now, the tea is boiling for kombucha.

4:15pm
Kombucha! Done.

April 27, 2014

8:30am
It's supposed to rain today. It's cloudy, but no rain coming down, yet.
Exercises are done. Had tapioca for breakfast. First load of laundry in the washer ...
I really need to get started on making those little rag rugs I planned on making. Just need to get in gear to cut the sheets into strips ...

9:15am
Second load of laundry started ... I need to go forage for the boys before it rains ...

That's done. The boys will eat for another day! ;)
Got a bag of stuff ready to take to GoodWill. Books and straw hats.

Now to find some scissors that are actually sharp enough to cut through fabric ...

1pm
I was going to have a strawberry/banana smoothie for lunch and realized I am out of strawberries! So, I had a cacao/banana smoothie. Same recipe as yesterday, just no strawberries and a whole teaspoon of cacao!

I have spent a relaxing morning cutting the sheet in strips for the rag rug. My right hand is so tired from using the scissors! Now, I need to cut some cardboard to the width I want for the rug and make slits in it to hold the strips ...

But, first I need to find out my mom's problem with the plunger ... grrr.

2pm
Well, that crisis is averted. She just doesn't know how to use an old-fashioned plunger ...

4:15pm
I have spent most of the day working on the rag rug. Learning as I go about how long to cut the pieces, etc.
This was one full-size flat sheet ... I'm going to have to cut another one to finish it next week. I need 3 more sets for the warp (each warp is a set of 6 strips of sheet) and then the rest for the weft of the weave. All of the strips are about 33.3 inches long. (the sheet was 100 inches long once the hem was removed.) Luckily, I have plenty of old sheets!

5pm
Waiting on dinner. Having a kombucha. Starving. My mom used the leftover marinade from yesterday's ribs on whole chicken legs. I can smell it. Did I mention I'm staaaarving ...

April 26, 2014

8am
It's been a busy couple of days with work. Getting that new store set up and catching up on some other stores so they wouldn't be late. All caught up now. Starting fresh on Monday. Lots of projects to do, too.

Yay, it's Saturday. Boo, it's cage-cleaning day ... Fun times ...

First load of laundry started. Warming some tapioca in the oven. Exercises done ...

Mmm. Tapioca.

10:30am
Well. Just over an hour to clean cages today. And, the bucks got to run around in the doves' room. Nice how quick things can get done when I have help.

We had some nice rain yesterday. And, more predicted tomorrow morning. But, today is clearing. So, I'll be uncovering the barbecue later and cleaning it and digging the charcoal out of the shed. Ribs! That's what's for dinner. ;)

1pm
Made a new batch of kefir.

Making an apple cider vinegar marinade for the ribs. Very spicy!
We're going to barbecue apples, too. Trying to decide if I want to make an apple crisp in foil ...

Late lunch. Smoothie: raw milk kefir, 4 large strawberries, 1 ripe banana, ¼ teaspoon each of maca powder, chia seeds, hemp seeds, gelatin & ½ teaspoon raw cacao powder. Mmmmm.

2:15pm
I should make more kombucha, but I think I'll wait until tomorrow. I hope to make yogurt tomorrow, too.

Third load of laundry in the washer ...

3:45pm
Got the barbecue going and the ribs are on. Decided to just do the apples the way my mom wanted to try. Apple halved and laid on the grill. I may sprinkle with a bit of sugar, too.

My mom's amaryllis finally bloomed. The other one should open soon. It never would bloom in a pot.
One of the hummingbirds is waiting impatiently for me to get out of the yard so she can eat. She's sitting in the middle of the neighbor's lemon tree.
Here's a close-up of her.
4:15pm
Early dinner. Sooo goood!
Yeah, I got a little bit of char happening. Out-of-practice with tamping the flames down.
The marinade didn't turn out as spicy hot as I expected ...

Not enough sugar left to make my kombucha. I may have to put it in the fridge tomorrow, so it won't get too vinegary before I can get more.

1:45pm
I stayed home again today. Still felt off-kilter, but no migraine, thank goodness. No choice but to work tomorrow, though. I have that new store to set up if they actually got their sprinklers and permits.

I made this and we'll have it for dinner: Gluten-Free Coconut Flour Dutch Babies I substituted tapioca starch for the corn starch in the recipe.
My mom cut up strawberries to top it with and then will top with tapioca since we have no cream.

Well, with gas going up again for the summer, I've decided to start taking the bus again next week. It will be far cheaper than driving. I spent over $150 in gas in March and still never had enough ... Haven't kept track this month, since I've been trying to pay cash and didn't get receipts every time. It's over $4/gallon already. So, I'll probably only be driving on Thursdays when I have to go to the farm and for my furthest Sacramento stores. It should save me at least $30/month.
