November 30, 2014

11:15am
The new bunnies are still doing well, so they weren't out long enough to get chilled after they were born. So, that's good. Patty has added more fur to the nest overnight, too. I've already been to the co-op for more greens for the bunnies. I'm now making a pumpkin bar recipe. I actually found a gluten-free boxed (I know!!!!! 123 Gluten Free Sweet Goodness Pan Bars Mix Sugar 'n Spice -- 20.48 oz) mix the other day that has minimal ingredients. I'm waiting for my eggs to get to room temp. before I get started. The oven is pre-heating.

I'm listening to more Daniel Vitalis podcasts today. I'm on #11 - it's a long one, but interesting.

I hope to get some jewelry made today.

1pm
The pan bars are sooo good. I added pumpkin, nuts and shredded coconut to the mix.

5:15pm
This is what I decided to work on today. Design is all my own.
I'm so out-of-practice on making jewelry. Had trouble bending the wire for the earrings!

10:15PM
I finally finished the necklace set. I'm not happy with the clasp, so I will probably change it tomorrow ...

Done with Saturday cage cleaning!
I'm listening to Daniel Vitalis' podcasts today. Trying to catch up on all the knowledge he gives so freely.
I've taken a bunch of pictures for another photo scavenger hunt. It's always interesting to see what you can find that fits each item.
1 - Something with the word "LOVE" on it
I was scrolling through my timeline on FaceBook and saw this.

2 - An item you use daily
I always have my glass of water on my desk and refill it several times during the day.

3 - Something or someplace peaceful
This was a hard one, but these babies are so fun and relaxing to watch that it is peaceful.

4 - The word "assembly" on a package or sign
This was a hard one, too. But, I needed to find my Canon printer installation disc, and this manual was in the same drawer!

5 - A souvenir from a trip or vacation you or someone took
My grandmother took an Amtrak train to North Dakota back in the '70s and got this.

6 - A trophy or award you received
Back in the '80s-early '90s, I bred and showed many animals (Cocker Spaniels, rats, mice, hamsters, rabbits and cavies). These are just a few of the awards they earned.
I took more pics of the hamster pups:

It was fun finally being able to handle them and watch them play. There are 2 boys and 5 girls.

5:15pm
Whew. Finally got my old moccasins apart. Tomorrow, I will trace them so that I'll have a good pattern to make more. Then, I will start re-stitching them.
I'm still listening to podcasts. I'm on #8. Go here: http://www.danielvitalis.com/rewild-yourself-podcast/
and then scroll down to the bottom of the page and hit Older Posts until you get to the first one and start from there!

9:15pm
Well, I got quite a surprise when I was feeding all the critters and putting them to bed for the night! Patty had bunnies! I was shocked and yet, I shouldn't have been. The way she came to me. Dakota probably bred her right after she lost the last litter all over the ground next door. Anyway, I started to open the door of her pen to get her bowls and saw blood on her towel and then saw hair everywhere. But, no bunnies. So I searched the tray and under the cage. One had burrowed under the towels in the tray and the other had burrowed in the sheets under the cage! There are only 2 (and they both look like Dakota in their markings!) I searched under all the cages and sheets to make sure no one else had crawled away. I now have her in the big playpen and moved Kayla to the smaller cage (she's not happy about that!) Luckily, I had a box Patty's size, so put her hair and some hay in with the babies. We'll see if they make it! She probably had them about 1-2 hours ago, so, hopefully, they didn't get chilled since they are inside. Both are a good size.

11:30am
I've gone to the co-op this morning and got the bunny greens and some sprouts for the baby hamsters. They love those! I had to pull weeds this morning for everyone. It was very foggy this morning and it hasn't really lifted, yet.

When I got home, the manager stopped me as I was driving into the park to let me know the water was off. One of the water lines broke. I could see the torn up yard where they were working on it. It just came back on at 11:45, so it wasn't off for too long. Of course, my mom was complaining when I got home that she couldn't finish her laundry ...

Stuffed again! I couldn't even finish my salad tonight! Saved it for tomorrow. And, I had made a salad dressing I found in a Raley's Something Extra magazine:

Cranberry Dressing
¼ cup extra virgin olive oil (I used the oil I got when I volunteered the other day!)
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons cranberry sauce (I used whole cranberry sauce)
½ teaspoon unrefined sugar
¼ teaspoon sea salt
Whisk together all dressing ingredients in a large bowl. Add salad greens and toss well to coat. Then top with other favored ingredients.

7:45pm
It's raining, it's pouring! Yay!

November 27, 2014

11:30am
Well, it's Thanksgiving ... just another day to me, really. But, hope you all are having a good one.

I'm working on getting some of my files organized now that I have everything back on my computer. It's something I should have done a long time ago. They are a mess. Music, video and image files all over the place. Files here, files there, etc. Trying to sort of streamline things and organize them and delete any duplicates.

And, reading lots of articles during file transfers. Here's some good ones:

I made a sale! Yay. $10. Not too bad for sitting on my butt. ;)

And, I discovered my BillMeLater account has been re-opened! Yay! I got behind in payments earlier in the year and it was closed and got put on a direct repayment schedule until next year. I haven't been late since that started. ;) I really didn't want to lose this account!

I need to get something to eat for lunch and make some tea. Then, start getting things together for dinner.

Just gave the hamsters and rabbits some Lady apples for lunch. The hamster pups are having them for the first time. So cute! Love these little apples. Perfect size for the little critters.

1:15pm
I was just thinking that it is so strange, but I just don't feel like watching TV. This is something that I was so addicted to for the majority of my life. When I was younger, I would just sit in front of it all day and night. But, there is now such a dearth of good programs that I don't even turn it on most of the time. My time watching TV has gone down drastically in this past year, especially. But, really, I think the past 5 years I cut back a lot. I have very few 'new' shows that I will watch (Criminal Minds, CSI ...) and 2 others (White Collar and Perception) are ending this season. Other than that, I prefer the shows I grew up with and old movies (which I've always preferred.) So, I am glad I will be getting rid of 'payTV' next year. I told my mom she will just have to remember how to get off her butt and move the antenna when she changes a channel (she has satellite on her TV right now)! Just like the old days! I love the AntennaTV channel. Love seeing Emergency!, CHiPs, and older shows that I always watched before. Gilligan's Island, Hogan's Heroes! Love those. So much better than today's garbage - news and 'reality' shows (which are both scripted, so there is nothing 'real' about either one!) I know that my addiction, over the past few years, has passed on to the computer screen from the TV screen. But, since I have realized that, I've started making an effort to cut back on this, too. Some of my online friends may not have noticed that, since I seem to post just as much! ;) I'm just breaking up my time online more and doing other things around the house, with my critters, trying to find things to do to volunteer my time/learn outside of home, crafting, and read more.

4pm
OMG! Dinner is smelling and looking so yummy. Making me hungry! We are having rotisserie chicken (warmed up, as it was made by the co-op yesterday;) wild rice with dried cranberries and walnuts dressing; salad; whole cranberry sauce; 5 Minute Grain Free Apple Pie Filling; and raw milk.
5:30pm
I. Am. Stuffed. But, it was so good. And, there are enough leftovers for the same dinner tomorrow. I just need to pick up a couple of Granny Smith apples to make the apple pie filling again. I'm going to the co-op in the morning to get more greens for the bunnies, so I can get them then.

November 26, 2014

4:30pm
Finally getting to relax a little today. Busy morning cleaning cages. Finished those by 11am and then left right after that. Went shopping for food at the co-op and a few other places. Got lots of goodies for tomorrow. Finished making the chicken broth I started the other day. Jars are cooling now. And, then ... Ezra beat up my mom again ... clawed her arm real good. So, swathed her in coconut oil and band-aids. She brings it on herself and then blames him ... :(

Wish I'd had my camera earlier when I was driving to Davis. A turkey flew across my hood. Seriously! There are quite a few wild turkeys that live in and around Davis. This one was just outside of town. Luckily, I saw him before he took flight, so had slowed down already. Davis actually has a big wild flock that roams around town and I think there is an ordinance to protect them (or possibly just restrictions on hunting them within city limits ... something like that.) Here is a site where you can see pictures of some of them: http://daviswiki.org/Turkeys

November 25, 2014

3pm
I am starting to feel sore ... but, I had fun this morning! I harvested organic olives for about 2 hours this morning before I went and serviced one of my stores. I would do it again! And, I earned a bottle of last year's vintage organic olive oil. I think it's a 12 oz. bottle. Good size, anyway.
This little grove is about 7 years old - it is on the UCDavis campus. They said that this year's harvest is about triple of last year's. So, even with the drought, it's doing well. All the trees are still small enough to be harvested from the ground (just reach up to pull some of the branches down.) Next year, they may need to use ladders for some of the bigger trees. Basically, we just laid out a huge blue tarp between the rows and pulled the olives off the branches (wearing gripper gloves.) It was very easy. I told them if they have another harvest before the end of the season, I'll be there - I'll get another bottle of olive oil for it! ;)
I got home and my mom had made a gluten-free blueberry muffin-cake. She didn't want to use the muffin tin, so she just made a little cake. It turned out pretty good. She is not good at making gluten-free stuff, so she doesn't try much. I know she misses baking, but ... she's not patient enough to figure out the gluten-free stuff. Thank goodness for Bob's Red Mill gluten-free products.

Cassia's pups are really getting around now. I think everyone's eyes are open, now. The bigger pups have made their own nest and the smaller ones are still with mama. I love instinct.
6pm
Dinner was good. Pork shoulder steaks with fried onions; blueberry muffin cake; and I made a barley drink - that wasn't so good. ;) Ran out of milk. Need to get more tomorrow ...

November 24, 2014

4:30pm
I am so tired ... I've been home a couple of hours. I only serviced 3 of the 4 stores I'd planned to do. I kept dropping things. And, then I kept taking the wrong turns to my stores. So, I said I'd better come home. That doesn't happen that often, but when it does, I come home.

Got my paperwork done and having some ginger tea. Also, made some fresh hummer food as they'd been cussing me out everytime I went out on the deck the past few days - where's our food!?

Cassia's pups have made a bunch of little nests all over their tank. Eleven more days before I need to separate the boys and girls. Depending on the numbers, the girls will most likely just stay with mama and the boys to their own tank.

My neck and shoulders are still hurting. Gotta take some willow bark.

November 23, 2014

12:30pm
Well, I'm hoping I have saved my emails that I thought I'd lost. I was up until after midnight re-setting this computer to factory settings after copying EVERYTHING to external drives ... That took about 8 hours. Now, I've spent the last 3 hours trying to recover all my email. I think I've almost got it figured out. My address books, auto-fill addresses have all re-appeared, as well as some of my saved stationery (but not all, so I'll have to re-install most of those individually ...) Now, I am just waiting for the transfer of all my messages to see if the 'work-around' that I found works ... Once I get that figured out, I'll start re-installing all my programs and moving some of the files back off the external drives (they are all full to the brim - in the extreme red zone!) But, at least I have my Letter Creator back and can start making stationery again!!!

I wish I had thought to take a picture of my desktop before I cleared all the icons ... Oh, well. I'll get everything organized again.

And, my mom is in a mood today. Angry at Ezra, as usual. So, she is hiding in her room.

7:30pm
It's been a looooooooooong day. I have almost everything re-installed. Just need to find my PSP9 installation. But, all of my emails were found! The folders are screwy on this new version of IncrediMail 2.5, but I can get used to that. I still wish I had been able to keep IncrediMail Xe several years ago. I loved that version ... oh, well.

I have a headache and a stiff neck today. The headache is from my mom and this computer. But, the stiff neck I think is from sleeping wrong on my pillows ...

Ezra is crying non-stop. He doesn't understand why she won't let him in her room and has done nothing but yell & cuss at him most of the day. Grrrrrr.

November 22, 2014

7:45am
Last week was a little busy for me. So, I just didn't feel like blogging much.

Cassia is really busy with her babies. They have started crawling out of the nest and she tries to keep them in it. Really funny to watch! Their eyes aren't open, yet. Will be soon, though!

After I clean cages, I'm going to start copying everything off of this desktop computer, so I can re-set it to factory and start new on it. Maybe I'll be able to put my IncrediMail back on it next week. It's a pain to go back-and-forth to check my email on the laptop ... :/

11am
I finished cleaning cages and vacuuming in 90 minutes! And, I just started a big batch (2 crock pots full) of chicken bone broth. It should be done Monday.

Pictures of some of my bratty babies:
These two found mama's hoard of food clear across the tank from their nest and were eating seeds. Their eyes are not open, yet!
I put the two renegades back in the nest so I could count everyone. Still 7! They are 14 days old today.
Mama Cassia had to make sure I didn't hurt them and then covered them back up!
Kayla and Patty having a feast.
Spoiled Nikky feeling left out! She's not allowed in the Critter Room most of the time.
I'm having my new favorite snack. Dried cranberries, raisins, cashews and raw sunflower seeds.
I ate most of the cashews and sunnies before I took the picture! ;)
Third load of laundry in the washer.

Starting the sloooow migration of all of my files from my desktop to my laptop and external drives. This will take a while. Doing one group/type of files at a time so I don't get things mixed up! I have so many!

About 250GB of files left to move ...

7pm
It seems the only thing on the news is sports, politics, health scare mongering and wars ... so glad for vintage TV channels!

About 60GB of files left to move ... might get them done tonight.

9:15pm
Hungry babies! Poor Cassia can't keep them in the nest now! Some eyes are open now.

Last night, I signed up for this: Harvest with UC Davis Olive Center Round 2
I'm kind of looking forward to it. I have never done it before. I'll be helping for about 2 hours on Tuesday.
Here's a post of it from the other day.
