April 15, 2012

It's been a busy, tiring day. It's Ezra & Bruno's first birthday! Don't know that Bruno will get anything special (I doubt it ...), but Ezra will get something yummy later!

I just came in from working in the yard. It's a pretty day! I discovered that I did actually create TWO bins FULL of wonderful, nearly perfect compost!! And, my original worm population exploded! I have TONS of red wigglers. So, the new worms I got yesterday will have plenty of new friends! One of the bins even has potatoes growing in the compost! So, that one just got topped off and moved to the sunshine. The other good bin now has most of the worms temporarily. And, the 3rd bin was a big, wet fail, so its contents got added to the new compost I am going to try starting in the mesh 'bin' thingie that I got yesterday. I am not impressed with it at all. I don't think it will work out for me. I'll try it for a while. But, if it doesn't work, I'll just move the contents into a bin or 2. We'll see. But, I am just happy that I actually DID create compost. By ignoring it! ha!

And, TWO of my tiny tomato plants have fruit! I really need to feed them. They are not looking that happy. The new compost will help, I'm sure. Will add some later.

April 4, 2012

I bought some more organic plants for the garden today at the Davis Food Co-op.
There's a marigold, dill, lemon cucumber and Cherokee Purple tomato.
Then, I remembered I needed to get the lavender flowers harvested to make some sachets for a swap. There were a lot of bees competing for the flowers!!
They took about 4 hours to dehydrate at 115F.
The finished sachets (made from the fabric of a favorite shirt.)
I also took some pictures of our front garden because we have the Yard of the Month for our mobile home park! That was a nice surprise when they put the sign up yesterday!
And, last ... our Easter Lily is blooming!
