The oven started working again. I think it is the ignitor that is acting up. But, I can't wait until my little countertop oven arrives!

I dug up the rosemary root and trunk this morning. Leveled off the ground. Next weekend, I hope to finally put the wire fence up around the brick box. I'll take pics. By then the irises should be done blooming, too.

My mom is doing great weeding the backyard. She does it sitting in her lawn chair!

Our lemon tree has teeny-tiny lemons! And, it is still blooming! More flowers = more lemons! Win-win!

Going to catch up with a bunch of quotes that have been sitting in my inbox for nearly two months. Hope you like all of them!

Work is going to kill me next week. And, I have to use my car 3 days out of the 5 ... bike 1, bus 1 ... ugh. But, I have to get 15 stores serviced in 3 different counties (5 different towns.) Just no choice with my foot messed up, too.

April 26, 2013

Yesterday was painful. I really did a number on my foot. I thought I'd broken it. It swelled badly and I couldn't put any weight on it. So, last night I was switching between using crutches, a cane and crawling on the floor to get things done! I soaked it in a hot epsom salt foot bath, then I slathered it in arnica gel. It is much better today. Swelling is down and I can put some weight on it. Wrapped it. But, I'll have to drive my car for work and take my cane with me. Taking it slow in my stores today. No bus or bike today ... :(

I listed this last night:
I'm giving away: 20 various used USA stamps. Check it out -

Home early! Wasn't much to do in the two stores I serviced today. Yay! Next week will be killer. I have 14 stores I need to do ... I don't look forward to it, but it will be a nice check ...

I swear by arnica gel! My foot is still very painful, but I was able to do a lot of walking that I needed to do for work. Plus, I walked around the PetSmart in the same shopping center. Didn't use my cane at all, but I sure did limp! I left the cane in the car. Got home and took my shoe, sock and wrap off and no sign of more swelling. But, the bruises sure do hurt. I think whatever I did to it, I bruised the little bones. Lucky I didn't break it.

I'm going to start training Nikky to behave around Robin today. He's grown a bit and should be able to put up with her mothering. She'll be on the harness and leash so she can't stomp on him. She and Ezra play really rough together and she may think she can play rough with Robin. Ezra is surprisingly gentle with him and I trusted him from the first day.

Nikky did alright, but still don't trust her without being leashed. Had to pull her up several times when she wanted to chase or pounce on Robin. She only weighs 10 lbs., but Robin isn't even 1 lb. yet. I still have bad memories of a 6-month-old Quinn tripping over full-grown Coney (rabbit) while she and Gemini played with him in the yard, and breaking his neck. They were all about the same size. And, that was 24 years ago and the puppies were raised with the rabbits. So, I'm going to be very cautious. Nikky isn't trying to hurt him, but she doesn't know her own strength. For a little dog, she likes to play rough.

So, I had planned on servicing 4 stores in Sacramento today ... I only did one ... big fail! I just am not suited for driving any more, I think. The wind was so bad, I could barely keep my little car straight and the big trucks were swerving out of their lanes ... and just too much traffic! I hate it! I had to come home. I felt like a nervous wreck! Tomorrow, I am doing 3 stores here in Woodland and riding my bike! So there!

Check out my Chia Tea recipe over on my food blog. Good energy drink!

Decision has been made not to fix the oven. I'm researching countertop ovens and have it down to 2 or 3 that I am comparing. Less than $100 and will suit our needs well. And, not gas! In a few months, I'll have my cousin come and cap both the oven and stove lines. I'll be replacing the stovetop in about a month. We'll be putting shelves in place of where the oven is now. The only gas we will have is the furnace and the water heater, but I can't do anything about those as there is not enough room on the electric box to add more fuses to replace those (had that checked out last year.)

Finally got my little $3 payment for the survey I did the other day.

And, got my little Federal refund. Paid a bill and it's gone.

It is getting too hot in here. It's 85˚F right now at 7:15pm ... I have my little fan on and I really don't want to turn the A/C on this late in the day. Time for an ice pack, methinks.

Just spent $150 on a countertop oven AND stove. They should arrive in about 2 weeks. Click on the pictures and you can see the details.

Next, I need to schedule the A/C maintenance for the year. Need to call Bonney this week.

April 22, 2013

Big Boy Dove is 3 today. Will take picture tonight.

Wind is bad again today ... I am so over this North Wind shit ...

I was in error in my blog last night. The internet blackout is today (4/22) not Friday! Ugh. Too late. I'm already ON the internet ... looks like many others missed it, too. Needed more warning. I was prepared not to be on the 'net on Friday ... other than some work stuff.

Need to get some postcards and ATCs made today. Then, I'm going to list a few things on Listia. And, package up some sales and swaps.

Great. My oven is not working ... Not sure what the problem is. Waiting 45 minutes for the bacon to be done and find the gas didn't even come on. No smell, so it didn't even get any. The stove is working ... I hate gas. I need to look into getting it turned off and replace the stove and oven with electric.

So, my mom put my bacon in her NuWave. First time trying to make it with that.

Bacon was alright earlier. Not the greatest, but at least not as messy as frying on the stove. Plus, the little roast my mom was making for her lunch got bacon drippings on it. Yum.

Just finished making 4 postcards and they are ready to mail tomorrow along with my Bonanza sale from last night.

Now, to get a few things ready to put up on Listia.

Well, I haven't accomplished much today ... no new listings, but had another winning auction, which I packaged for tomorrow's mail.

But, here are pictures of Ezra surveying his realm from the tallboy dresser:

 He's so princely! haha!

Damn. I'm getting really frustrated with one of my survey companies. I've been with them for years and they have suddenly changed their payment plan. You have to jump through hoops just to get $3 sent to PayPal. If it doesn't show up soon, I think I am going to give up on them. It was bad enough when they went from $5 down to $3 a few years ago. But, now you have to go to a separate site and 'order' your $3 like a product. So, I have a feeling they will be eliminating the cash payments soon and just do points that you can redeem for crap (airline miles, restaurants, iTunes, or whatever that I don't use!) I've already dropped several companies that started doing that ... one company used to let you redeem for Barnes and Noble gift cards, but they stopped doing that, so I stopped doing their surveys. Not many decent cash-paying survey companies left, it seems ...

It got to nearly 90ºF today. It's going to be a long, hot summer, methinks.

Making chia tea to take with me tomorrow. It's going to be a long day trying to get 4 stores done in Sacramento. I'll need all the energy I can get ... I'll have it on the food blog tomorrow.

Here's a bedtime picture of the doves.
Big Boy is on top with Little Girl behind him. Little Boy is perching below while Squabbie has a night-time snack.

And, here's Robin having dinner of strawberry and bindweed while Ezra supervises!

April 21, 2013

Whew! It's been a long week! And, sad and scary for some; hard to process for others. Really didn't want to write much while watching it unfold online and on the TV. I'm sad for the people in the Boston area and those in West, TX. But, also ... I have to look at it from a different perspective from those it truly affected. I'm also sad for those in the Middle East and other areas who have to live with this kind of sadness and fear on a DAILY basis. We are very lucky here in the US that we don't have to wake up every morning KNOWING that there may be another bombing that day. I think they are very brave going about their daily lives with something like that hanging over their heads ... I don't know that I could.

Anyway ...
Work is getting to me. It's blowing my plans to stop using my car for work ... If I don't use it for some of my stores now, I will get behind and I can't let that happen ... so, I will be using my un-smogged car (it's registered, but I can't get a current license tag sticker until it passes the smog test) for my Sacramento and Dixon stores ... With all the extra store hours, I may make enough (ha! one can dream ...) to actually get it to pass smog ...

I took Nikky for her first long ride in the bicycle cart over to the man-made pond about 1 mile from us. It is part of one of the protected nature areas. She cried and carried on the whole way there. I was going pretty fast with the ebike and it was a very new experience for her. I think she enjoyed the walk when we were there and saw some Canada Geese make a water landing and scared some 'mudhens' (aka coots.) There were also some critters in the undergrowth that caught her attention. Luckily, I had her on leash. May have been offspring of some of the mice I've released out there in the past!

Robin has had an exciting evening! He ate and played outside, but then had his first bath when we came back in. He had so much pollen and debris on him, I had to do it! Lots of pictures of him tonight!

I actually took 24 pictures of Robin tonight (I'm amazed that the camera let me!) I had trouble 'weeding' them down to half that!

Does anyone know what that weed is in the foreground? With the spiky seed pods? Robin likes those. He likes the bindweed best, though.

I'm ready to go in, now!
I did not want to come in just to get my first bath!
Wet bunny!
Blooming onions! I should have cut them back before they bloomed ...
What kind of weed is this? It has lilac-pink flowers (the buds are closed,) but now has this big seed plume, too. It's about 2 feet high.

Great, the government is trying to force CISPA on us again. There will be an internet blackout on Friday.

Cool. I just sold a book from my Bonanza shop!
Vintage Dorothy Moore's Pattern Drafting & Dressmaking 1971

I've also auctioned quite a few more books on Listia this week.

And, won a few things.

I'm getting pickier about the swaps I do, though. I have to go through and leave a few of the swap groups I'm in that are either dead or don't offer enough US-only swaps. I won't do international any more, as the postage is too expensive.

April 15, 2013

Ugh. Tax Day. Working on it, now. I always tell myself every year that I will not wait until the last minute, but here I am again! I think it is dread from the past when I owned my own business and had to pay taxes on self-employment, etc. Haven't owed taxes in years, though.

Today is Ezra's 2nd birthday.

I moved the fish.

The Betta is hiding in the tree stump. My mom will start emptying the big tank tomorrow while I'm at work.

My mom is outside digging up all the bulbs in the big brick box. There are hundreds!! I'm going to miss all the flowers. She wants it all succulents/cactus in there ... Need to put most of the bulbs on Craigslist or something ... Hate to throw them away, but nowhere to plant all of them in our little space.

OK. I'm getting pissed, now. I got my Federal taxes done. But, CA. tax site keeps crashing! I can't even get completely logged in. Been trying for over an hour!

Sad end to the Boston Marathon today. So far, 2 dead ...

And, I can't get my CA. taxes done online, I guess! Damn site keeps crashing, so I have to go to the main PO and hope to find some forms to fill out and mail ... ooh, I might be able to print them out if the site co-operates.

I give up! Printed out the forms and will be mailing at the PO ... Damn website crashes after the log-in screen. At least the forms could be printed.

Taxes done for another year. Took much longer than it should have because of the CalFile site constantly crashing. Should have taken 15 minutes and be done, but not today ...

Still watching the news about the Marathon explosions. So sad. So senseless.

Yay! Rain!!

Ah, I need to get some tea. It's been a long day and not nearly done. I need to map out my route for the bus tomorrow. Going to have Numi Honeybush tea, topped with raw cream.
Oh, the recipe is up for the Sweet Potato Chips on my food blog.

I hope to have a chia tea recipe up by the end of the week. Sooo good.

Gratuitous bunny pic.

April 14, 2013

Well, this is interesting. My mom says Tony isn't her final name choice for the bunny ... hmmm. I told her Vin or Spencer. She said she'd think about it.

He ate all his bindweed overnight. Gave him a chunk of pear and two raspberries for breakfast.

Nikky and I went to the pet store and bought a bag of loose Timothy hay, some alfalfa cubes and a glass water bottle for the bunny. Said bunny is still somewhat nameless ... suggestions keep getting thrown at me and I've nixed them ... Bugs, Odo, Wolf, and some other odd ones. Robin is a maybe.

Cleaned the bunny and dove cages; vacuumed their room; took out garbages; getting temp in fish tanks worked on so the fish can be moved. Maybe tomorrow. Next, after lunch, I must go trim dead flowers and dig up rosemary roots in the big brick box ... fun.

I think Nikky may finally be accepting that the bunny is like the doves and does not come out of the cage for her to love on. Her whining was really getting to me.

FINALLY! After much argumenting, the bunny has a permanent name - Robin! Me likes. My mom is reading one of her historical romances and kept reading me off the names. It got down to a choice of Robin and Connor. Since I like making nicknames, Robin won (I'll probably call him Robby more than anything. And, didn't want to call him Connie!)

We'll go through all of this naming thing again when we find a guinea pig we want! Ugh.

Just got finished cutting back some of the belladonna leaves. Those things really take over a garden. The brick box is looking good again. The irises look beautiful still and there are some other flowers that I can't think of their names. But, there are pink, purple and white wildflowers and some orange and yellow daisy-relatives.

You can see the rosemary stump on the right. That will come out tomorrow, I think. It has to. The roots are so woody and strong that it is pushing the bricks out and I don't want to have to repair the crack if it gets bigger ...
Making sweet potato treats for Nikky and Robin. Will put on the food blog tomorrow if they turn out alright.

I need to get a good double-boiler.

Found a cool chia tea recipe I'm going to make tomorrow. I bought some a couple weeks ago and really liked it. So, glad I can make my own in flavors I like.

Listening to Very Best of the Byrds. Great music.

Night-time play for Robin and Ezra.
Until Robin is bigger I can't let him out when Nikky is up; have to wait until she is in bed in the other room. She would be too rough and pounce on him to give him licks and loves. Even though she is smaller than Ezra, I trust him more not to hurt Robin on accident. But, Robin will only be out and about while supervised.
He's a fast little guy and some of the pics are blurry as he moved.

April 13, 2013

OK. So, I contacted 2 people about bunnies last night. One emailed me back this morning with phone number. Called this morning, left message ... been waiting for a call-back for over an hour ... ugh. Come on, People! Do you want to find homes for them or not? My morning has about been wasted. At least I talked my mom out of going to Home Depot. But, I still might not get to the recycle event, at this rate ...

Got home from picking up our new bunny about 30 minutes ago. Seems laid back. Nikky is going nuts wanting to lick the baby. Now she is whining like crazy because he is in the pen. Ezra is ignoring everyone. He was upset that the baby was in his carrier.
Here are some pics of mommy, daddy and siblings.
Mommy is a Netherland Dwarf/Lionhead cross.
Daddy is a mini Lop cross.
Three left. Can't take them all!

And, here is our baby boy in the big playpen. We'll pick up some alfalfa hay and some toys tomorrow. There will be pear for dinner.

And, Nikky wanting to play with the baby.
Naming arguments have commenced. I want Daniel, of course. Or, Vin. My mom has, so far, suggested Reggie (no way!) and Eric (please, no ...)

Aw, hell. The bunny's name is Tony ... can you guess my mom's favorite show ... ugh. She says it's after a cat she had as a kid ... riiiight. And, it wasn't her cat, it was Jeanne's (her sister.) At least she didn't suggest Jethro ...

Tony likes pears. And, yes, he is 'sitting' on the edge of his bed!

Searched some websites for bunny foods and treats. Bookmarked several. Tony is going to be so spoiled! Going out to pull some weeds for him to nibble on through the night. Also found a treat recipe for Nikky that Tony can also have. Dehydrated sweet potatoes.

Nikky and I will take the bike (with cart attached) to the little pet store we like down the street and get a bag of timothy hay for Tony tomorrow. I hope to have him almost off of pellets by the end of the summer. (Despite advertising, pellets are not a good food for rabbits ... or rodents, for that matter. It's the same principle as extruded kibbles for cats and dogs ... baaaad.) They should be a VERY small percentage of the diet, if at all.

Last Tony pic of the night. Night-time snack of fresh bindweed from our yard. Yum.

April 12, 2013

Such a lovely day today.
I rode my ebike to the PO this morning. Came home and did some maintenance on both the ebike and the regular bike. Aired up all the tires. Wiped them both down (so dusty after all the wind we've had lately.) Adjusted the seat and handlebars on the regular bike. It finally 'fits' me for the first time since I bought it almost 4 years ago. I was determined to get the height adjusted so my knees don't hurt when I pedal.
Helped my mom cut down the rosemary bush in the brick box out front. It got too big there. Gave some of the rootlets to Daisy next door and saved a good-sized rootlet to re-pot to start a new plant. The neighbor across the street actually helped my mom weed some of the brick box while I rode to the PO. That was nice of her.

I gave my mom the 'okay' to get a rabbit and a guinea pig ... so, today, we've cleaned the small fish tanks (10-gallon rectangle and 20-gallon hexagonal) and got them both set up to move all the fish from the big 30-gallon rectangle tank. And, both of the filters are dead ... so, I just ordered a couple from and will pick them up from the store later. I had to use my PayPal BillMeLater or wouldn't have been able to get them this week ... anyway, the guinea pig will go in the 30-gallon tank once it is cleaned out and set up for one. And, the big 'puppy playpen' will come back out of the shed and be set up for a rabbit. We've had rabbits in it many times before. So, now, I start searching Craigslist, etc. for rescue bunnies and cavies.
Glad to be getting that pen out of the shed. Now, I can put both bikes in there!

Rode my ebike to Walmart to pick up the filters at about 4pm. That was quick! Have them both hooked up and running fine. Will move the fish tomorrow and clean out the big tank. I have inquiries out about 2 bunnies on Craigslist right now. Waiting for responses.

Watched 2 episodes of Dr. Blake Mysteries tonight.

OMG! TeamHusbands is now following me on Pinterest! Cool. I just started going there again and hope to update my boards there soon. I followed them a couple days ago.

I don't think I'm going to get a chance to take stuff to the recycle event tomorrow. Now, my mom wants to go to Home Depot tomorrow to look at doors to replace the sliding glass door ... I keep telling her we can't yet because I have too many big bills right now ...

April 11, 2013

Wow. Where did yesterday go?! It was a very long day. Serviced 2 stores in Sacramento. The buses were all on time, but I thought I'd missed one, so I walked nearly a mile to the next transfer ... the bus I thought I'd missed passed me!!! But, I still met my transfer on time ... It was a pretty day, too. No wind. But ... the wind is back today.
I used my car to go to Dixon to service a store, stopped at the big produce stand for local honey, lemons and poppy seeds, and then out to the farm in Yolo for 2 gallons of fresh, raw milk. It was a nice, early day.
I'm going out to take some pictures of my lemon tree. We has flowers! We'll have quite a few lemons this year. I didn't expect that. The neighbor, Martin, planted 3 citrus trees before we did and one has died and the other 2 are not doing well ... my tree has surpassed them in height, too. I think it may be because of the weeds (Bermuda grass is awful around here!) I keep a 1-foot area around the base cleared of weeds; they don't ...

I am so over my old Kodak digital camera ... still eats batteries. So, I took pics with my phone. I sure won't do that again! It takes great pics, but it costs way too much to just send them to my email! Wow! I won't get those minutes back! Anyway ... I took 2 pics of the lemon tree and 2 of some of our irises blooming. So pretty!

Now, to test out the Vivitar camera. I promised a friend a while back to take pictures of my moccasins ... hopefully, the pics won't be too grainy like the last time I used it.

Hmmm. There goes that idea ... the batteries corroded in it ...

Well, that was a pain in the butt! The Vivitar is going to the recycler on Saturday (there is a recycle event at the fairgrounds and I have several things I'll be taking.) It was a crap camera to begin with. All pics are very grainy and not true-to-color. So, got the Kodak to take some pics, but it has to go soon, too. I'm tired of it eating batteries. And, I want a camera that will turn on when I press the on button, not after I fight with the battery connection and bang on it a million times! Ugh.

But, here are my moccasins! The pics are a bit dark. I don't have a lot of light in my room.
After we left my dad in 1980, my mom and I found this little shop in Old Town Sacramento that sold nothing but Native American stuff. She bought me these moccasins and the moccasin boots below. I may need to replace the soles on the mocs soon as I wear them a lot. But, the boots are still like new. I don't wear them enough! Sadly, that shop is long gone.

I just won these on Listia a couple weeks ago. I love them!

Getting ready for dinner (spicy short ribs)!

Yay! I just read that the USPS cannot stop Saturday mail deliveries!

Went outside and read a chapter of Supernatural: Night Terror
