May 31, 2014

It's a nice day, so far ... surprise! All the critters inside and out are fed, watered, clean. The boys are out on the deck today. It's nice out. Sure to get hot later and I'll bring them in. My mom moved my hummingbird feeder pole. I'm not happy where it is. It is not sturdy enough with the feeders on it. If it falls over and they break, I will not be happy ... it was fine where it was ...

I need to get organized and make some postcards to mail Monday and also to set up my first 2 swaps in my Swap-Bot postcard group. I have so many ideas! Plus, I need to get the June birthday list written for my Stargate group to send out tomorrow morning.

My mom wants to paint. So, most of tomorrow will be taken up showing her what I want done if she is actually going to help me. Don't know how much actual painting is going to get done ... she hasn't painted a house since I was about 9 and we painted the house I grew up in. So, 42 years ago ...

I need to make kombucha, milk kefir and sun tea today ... always so much to do ...

I just finished making kefir. I wanted to take pics of Nikky licking the pitcher, but my camera battery died! Charging it now. Don't know if the pics are good or not ... We'll see ...

Finally got one of my items from my Bonanza shop listed on eBay. Took a while to get all the info changed on my account. I haven't sold anything on eBay since 2009! So many new rules, etc.!

It's getting easier to list. I may have time to list a few more this evening. But, until then, it's barbecue time!

I'm barbecuing beef heart and sweet potatoes. Mmmmm.

Finally got my camera battery re-charged.
Nikky helping to clean up the kefir-making mess.
Dinner - barbecued beef heart with Italian seasoning; sweet potato with butter and cinnamon; cherries; raw milk with potato starch.
I'm watching Sing Your Face Off, John Barrowman's newest show ... I hate reality shows ... so, not sure if I can stomach seeing more episodes ... especially at two hours long ... but I love John ... :/

My darn FireFox keeps freezing, so I'll end this blog for the day.

It's been an annoying few days dealing with my mom's attitude ... really stressing me out to where I don't want to do anything ...
But, today I had to go shopping and to the farm. I also took 4 bags of stuff to GoodWill. And, when I got home, we loaded one of the old TVs into my car so I can recycle it tomorrow. The other one will go next week.

Check out this twinned strawberry I got in a pack today! It's huge!
This is dinner -
wild cod with TJ's Dukkah spice blend; scrambled eggs; hash browns with green onions; strawberries/banana/cream cheese/cacao; raw milk with potato starch.
And, I made this earlier - a homemade soft scrub and it works pretty good!

I'm contemplating selling on eBay again. I haven't for quite a few long years. I used to make good money on there ... so many rules, though. It's so different than it used to be ... but, I really gotta get some of this clutter moving! My Bonanza sales just aren't moving fast enough ...

I shared this on the socials earlier:
It's Throwback Thursday somewhere, so I throw in this old pic of me and my favorite cousin. I'm 8 weeks old and Curtis is 4 years old in this pic. So this is in April, 1963. My parents and I were temporarily living with my aunt Jeanne, uncle Buddy and cousins Steven and Curtis in West Sacramento at the time. I still have some memories of playing on that big ottoman.

Whew! This day has fled pretty quickly! I got 3 stores serviced in Dixon and stopped at the co-op in Davis for bunny greens on the way home. Got home at 1! Pretty good! Also, when I left I saw a hanging lamp for free in front of one of my neighbor's space with a 'free' sign on it. When I got home, it was still there. So, I grabbed it - it matches the lamps I bought for my kitchen! Some day, I will get around to putting them up!
When I got home, I filled the hummingbird feeders (I took them down this morning and scrubbed them before I left for work.) And, put out sun tea to brew.
I've been watching Criminal Minds for the past couple of hours ...
I now have 9 members in my little Swap-Bot group! First swaps will be up next weekend. :)

Dinner was breakfast! Yum! Omelet with leftover beef roast, bell pepper, cherry tomatoes, apple chunks; bacon; raw milk with potato starch.

I've been loving this Criminal Minds marathon the past couple of days! But, must go to bed ... :(

I hope you all put your flags out to fly! I just did!
Today's crafty project ... I'm going to re-cover the rolling sewing box cushion. This little cart was in the house when we bought it! I just never got around to fixing it. I store my paper craft supplies in it. The fabric I am going to use is recycled - it used to be one of my mom's muumuus!
I finished recovering the cushion a couple of hours ago. It didn't take long. Just got a chance to load the pictures from the camera.
I've been watching the Criminal Minds marathon most of the day. But, I have the pork roast thawing out for the barbecue later.

Little Boy and Little Girl are 4 today! Seems like yesterday they were just eggs! haha!
Little Boy is heading to the nest for the night.
Little Girl is done with her nest for the day.
FYI - Usually male doves sit on the nest at night and females during the day.

Getting things ready to barbecue! Pork roast with Cajun seasoning and garlic salt. Quartered baby potatoes, carrots, green onions, butter, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes and TJ's Dukkah seasoning.

Dinner is served!

Bunnies are out of food ... So, I'll be riding my eBike with the trailer to Davis this morning to get them some free bunny greens at the co-op. I haven't made such a long trip with the bike since last year. It's good I'm off tomorrow!

I. Am. Exhausted! Twenty mile round-trip. But, I enjoyed myself on my ride. Took a couple pics of a Red-wing blackbird (he was preening himself across a ditch; this was as close a shot as I could get with Zoom) and also what I think might be blackberry bushes on the side of the road. The fruit is just breaking from the bud, so they will be ripe enough to pick very soon. I will be stopping often in the next week or so to check on them! I also picked up a bunch of bottles and cans. Filled two 4-gallon bags! I could have filled more, but I was getting too hot. Glad I had my water with me. My legs were getting tired, too. Even with the batteries, I pedaled a lot.

Brought the boys in from the porch when I got home and turned on the air! Having lemon kombucha on ice!

So far, the vinegar/dish soap bowl is not attracting the gnats for a drowning! Grrr.

Soaking all of my lemons in vinegar water right now. I should have done it when I brought them home last week as 2 of them had to feed 'George' (the garbage disposal) due to some mold on the rind. I want to make lemonade and don't want to cut through mold spores (or a wax coating if there is one on these organic lemons.) I was hoping to freeze some of the rind so that I will have some to make some lemon rind candy and some lemon extract in the future.

35 lemons! Squeezed by hand! Whew! I saved most of the rinds. Just need to clean out most of the pith, cut them in strips and freeze them. I put part of the juice in ice cube trays. The rest is honey lemonade! Yum!

Arrgghhh! It's 100°F!!! It may have been hotter earlier, but I hadn't looked at my desktop temp icon for a few hours.

Despite what it looks like, this is sooo good. Chopped chicken in a mixture of black rice, wild rice blend and millet.
Honey lemonade on ice and a nectarine snack.
Yay! I have 5 new members in my postcard group on Swap-Bot!

It's time for Nikky and the other critters to go to bed. But, it looks like Ezra already has a new bed for the night! On top of Robin's room!
Everybody's in bed but me. Time for some chocolate milk and Criminal Minds before bed.

This day is not starting off well ... my mom is trying to pick fights. I just want to cry ...

Cages are clean; critters are fed; yard is clean. Eyes are itching. Kombucha!
Blackberry/vanilla kombucha
Milk kefir made. Also made another yummy strawberry/banana/raw kefir smoothie for lunch.

Hummingbirds are fed.

I should make yogurt ... but, I think I will do it tomorrow.

Rode my bike to the mailbox so I could mail a swap. And, I really like how the ATC turned out ... but, I forgot to scan it for my files! Hate when I do that!

I rearranged part of the shed, so my bike is easier to move in and out of it.

I must find a recipe for killing these damn little fruit fly/gnat creatures that are bugging me!

Ah, found one I will try. A bowl of vinegar/dish soap. We'll see if that does anything!

I just started a new group over on Swap-Bot: Thrifty and Crafty Postcard Pals It's for US members only. Hopefully, I'll get some members! Ha! Need to invite some people I know are good swappers.

Just finished spraying most of the spotted spurge weeds with vinegar. Hopefully, they will die off overnight! Ha!

Mmm. Dinner is a yummy omelet with chicken/apple sausage, cherry tomatoes and bell pepper. And, raw milk with potato starch.

May 23, 2014

Welll, looks like I am being lazy again today ... decided not to work. I do have to take some things to the landfill today, though. Old cans of paint that were in my dad's garage when we emptied it years ago and I thought I might use some of it, but never did. Finally getting rid of it all. And, if I can get one of the big TVs off the porch and fit it in the car, I'll take that, too.

Took the paint cans to the landfill. I didn't even have to get out of the car! Popped the trunk and they carted all of them out.
Came home and vacuumed my car, trunk and all. Then, organized my trunk. Threw a lot of stuff for work away that wasn't needed anymore. Much neater and eliminated 1 of the milk crates that held stuff still. Measured the trunk and the backseat, then measured the 2 big TVs. They will both fit ... barely! One in the back seat and one in either the front seat or the trunk. I'll be doing that next week.

And, I have a set of new tire chains and adjusters to sell that I know I'll never use.

My eyes are really itching today. Must be the pigweed pollen, which is supposed to be pretty high right now.

Smoothie for lunch. One cup raw milk kefir, one cup raw milk, 1 frozen banana, 10 fresh strawberries, 1 teaspoon hemp seeds, 1 teaspoon gelatin, 1 teaspoon cacao powder, 1 teaspoon maca powder, 1 teaspoon maple syrup. So darn good.

I'm having some of my lemon kombucha. It's not too lemony, but it is still good. Next time I will have to put in more than a half lemon's juice per bottle and see if that will up the taste.

Dinner will be baked wild cod with lemon pepper and lemon slices. And, fermented veggies. With raw milk/potato starch.
I recently discovered a site called MeetUp. I've been surfing around it the past couple of days and finding some really cool things. I just joined a local conservation group in my area, Tuleyome Home Place Adventures. Hope to start going to some of their nature events. I never even heard of them before! If I'm lucky, I may be able to find someone who knows of some local springs, closer than Lake Berryessa area. And, I discovered there are waterfalls in Yolo County! I never knew! And, they are not that far from here; a few towns north of us. It's at the end of a trail established in 1889! I want to investigate it! Not sure when the group will be going there, but I will definitely check it out at some point.

I went outside with Nikky to sit on the porch and read. I didn't even get through half a chapter and the noisy neighbors came out and started making so much noise I couldn't understand a paragraph! Ugh! So, I came inside and finished the chapter ... it is the second Land of Stories by Chris Colfer. The Enchantress Returns. I hope I'll be able to get the third book (A Grimm Warning) when it comes out. I love these stories! He's a really good storyteller.

I love my night-time chocolate milk! Raw milk, raw cacao, maple syrup. Mmm.

Another lazy day. I only serviced one store ... I got a bit of gas, went to the farm and got milk, took it home. Then headed to Davis to the store I decided to do, along with milk kefir grains packed in ice. I met the Freecycler who needed them. Nice lady. Finished servicing the store and then headed for the co-op for some groceries. I'll do the 2 stores in Dixon tomorrow and then off until Tuesday (Monday is a holiday and the RI office will be closed.)
I need food. Chocolate raw kefir time! It's raw kefir, 1 teaspoon maple syrup and 1 teaspoon raw cacao. Yum!

Today is Sheriff's first anniversary! I found him in the road last year. Doesn't seem that long ago. My mom gave him and Robin some sweet alyssum for their lunch treat and I gave them each a fresh strawberry when I got home.
Here are some pics of Sheree when I found him:
He'd been mauled by a cat (most likely); I treated his wound with coconut oil. You can't even find the scar now. He barely fit in my hand, he was so tiny.
Robin is a month older and was more than twice his size then. Now, their sizes are reversed! Sheree is huge!

Nikky is very wheezy today. She threw up earlier, it was so bad. Must be all the garlic in the air. Seriously. Everything smelled this morning everywhere I went. Garlic harvesting at the farms.

Dinner. Yum.
Spicy chicken, fermented veggies, raw milk with potato starch.
Kombucha time!
