October 31, 2014

It's a beautiful rainy day! We really need it.

Nikky is 5 today! Can't believe she's been with us over 4 years already. She's having a lazy day with me.

I'm going to make these for lunch: Pumpkin Pie Coconut Flour Pancakes
These turned out really good. :)
I made a few postcards, some envelopes and an ATC today. Here are a few of them.

Oh, and I made this silly wallpaper for one of my groups the other day.

Last week, I broke one of the little plastic thingies at the end of the blinds pull-cord on one of the living room windows. So, I decided to replace all of them with wooden beads! I like it and it's easier to grab to pull them open or closed.

So, I bought individually boxed Sun Maid raisins (the co-op was out of the organic ones ...) and these yummy little truffles for the trick-or-treaters:
B00J18DMHA Organic Velvet Truffles Dark Milk Chocolate
Alter Eco
But, because of the rain, I get them allllllll! ;)

I hate having my picture taken, but here is me in my Matthew Gray Gubler original. I only wear it on Hallowe'en. haha! I'm standing on a box to get the reflection ...
I'm upset about not being able to find one of my old photo albums. I've been looking for it off and on for a few weeks. I finally dug around in the old window seat, hoping it was in there. Most of our old pictures, negatives, albums, etc. from the past 100 years are in there if they are not out on a shelf. No luck ... It is most of my pics from my childhood from about 5-15 years old ... I know it is around here someplace. Just not the several places I thought it might be ... :/

Just finished watching Bell, Book and Candle. Next up is The Return of the Vampire! Oldies, I love them!

Fun times tomorrow. After I clean cages, I get to pull up my mom's toilet and replace the leaky wax ring. Surprised it didn't need it before now. I had to replace mine soon after we moved in about 5 years ago.

No goblins or ghouls ... Chocolate and raisins are MINE! ;)

October 27, 2014

8:15amThis will be a very long work day ... near 8 hours. That's long for me. Two stores. Four special projects in one of them. Plus, have to go to the co-op for bunny greens.

I got home about an hour ago. I was only able to do one store with all the projects. Tomorrow will be the same.
Time for dinner! Country ribs and eggs! Mmmm.

Having a late snack while I watch last night's new CSI episode. Strawberries with cream cheese, cinnamon and cacao. And, yummy Chocolatté tea with milk.

October 25, 2014

It's been a very busy week, with more to come next week. Lots of special projects for work. Seems like every chain of stores is having resets the next few weeks. Busy, busy.

Of course, I woke up early and sick today. Stomach ... drinking ginger tea. I have 3 days next week that I HAVE to work.

I rearranged part of my office yesterday. I like it. Basically, I just switched the TV and the computer positions. But, the part that takes the longest is getting all the cables, wires, surge protectors, etc. moved to the right place.

Today is the first day of the season when I actually feel cold and can't seem to warm up. Had to put socks on. And, going to get a shirt with long sleeves on! It has to be because I don't feel good ... grrr. Much better with the long sleeves, now.

I'm going to make oven French fries for lunch. I haven't had these in a very long time. Oven Baked French Fries I'll be subbing coconut oil for the olive oil.

I bred Damian, with Zihna on Wed., and Cassia on Thurs. I'll keep putting them together until I'm sure they are bred!

Those fries were pretty good. No pics, though.

I thought I was going to have to spend the afternoon trying to get the satellite receiver and remote to work on the TV in my mom's bedroom that I couldn't get to work the other day when we switched the rooms around. Today, it worked! Figures. She's been complaining every day that she wanted her TV back so she could watch TV in bed ... ugh. Now, she can. Not sure what I did differently than the other day, but at least it works now.

Tummy is still gurgling, but I'm feeling better. Charcoal does wonders sometimes.

We are having a gluten-free homemade pizza tonight. I need to get the crust ready. We'll be having ground buffalo, bacon and spinach with mozzarella and Cheddar cheese on it.

The pizza was soooo good. It's been a few years since we've had one, but I think I found a simple recipe that works well for the crust. Quick and Easy Gluten Free Flat Bread Wraps I used Arrowhead Mills Gluten Free All Purpose Baking Mix in it. I patted the dough onto a 10½-inch cast iron round griddle after spreading a bit of coconut oil. Fried it lightly on both sides. Let it cool while my mom fried the bacon and ground buffalo with some frozen spinach. Topped the crust with a light brushing of tomato sauce. Layered some shredded Cheddar and Mozzarella, then the meat mixture, then topped with more cheese. Put in the oven, griddle and all, at 425°F for about 10 minutes - until cheese melted and started to brown slightly. It was very good!

Sold another book on eBay. Waiting for payment so I can ship tomorrow.

October 20, 2014

OK. Life can stop screwing with me now, please ...
Hit my forehead on the bathroom doorknob early this morning - don't ask ... My shoulder is killing me from moving those damn bricks yesterday. I actually hurt all over from that, but mostly my shoulder. My mom is complaining about her toilet water level ... and, I find a notice in my driveway (lucky it was not windy - or raining yet!) face-down, so I thought it was just a piece of garbage - that there may be new owners, change of management, increase in rent and loss of rent control soon ... I'm screwed. Space rent here is already over $400 (and , so not worth it!) On top of my loan payment and other bills ... If it goes up too much, I may have to give up on the last 2 credit card bills ... :/ It'll take me another 20 years to get my credit back ... we'll see what happens ...

Anyway, with my possible mild concussion, I'm staying home. There's a knot on my forehead and a bruise. Hurts like hell.

Gotta go forage the last of the Bermuda grass for the bunnies before it rains since I can't get to the co-op today.

Auction: Cute Fabric Box
Auction: Funky Wooden Beaded Animal Necklace - used
Auction: 5 Amber Glass Dropper Bottles - Used
Auction: The Big Red One - VHS - used

My little concussion headache is trying to morph into a migraine ...
Clouds are really moving in. Might really get rain this afternoon!!

Forgot to breed the hamsters (again) last night. We'll get started on this breeding thing eventually! The doves are doing great on it. Big Boy and Little Girl are sitting on a pair of eggs again. Oh, and forgot to mention that the neighbors lost the last bunny. So, I'm searching for an adult doe again, but might have to put that off until the new year. By then, Kayla will be old enough to breed.

The neighbor's kid is not helping my headache. He is learning an instrument ... brass or woodwind of some sort. A horn, anyway ... ugh. Normally, I can block it out, but not today ... pain ...

Dinner is cooking. I found a good chicken recipe through the FlyLady FB feed: Key Lime Chicken Thighs Had to make a couple of substitutes - leg quarters for thighs, lemon juice for lime juice and tomato boullion for chicken boullion ... so, we'll see if it turns out as good as it sounds! We're also having Bacon-Apple Pie Bites again. Really like those. Plus, baked potatoes with lots of butter. Raw milk with potato starch.
I'm stuffed!

Well, that sucks. Sacramento had a few sprinkles, but we got nothin'! :(

Tried both Zihna and Cassia with Damian tonight and neither was ready ... try again tomorrow.
Little Boy and Squabbie laid an egg today. Doveling isn't even 3 weeks old, yet! Big Boy and Little Girl haven't hatched their latest 2 eggs yet. Any day, now. And, Paloma is a male. He started bow-cooing to Dovelet this morning.

October 19, 2014

Had to help my mom this morning so she would leave me alone. She's been bugging me to lay down the aggregate stones in the backyard even though I keep telling her I'll just have to pull them all up later on. She does not 'get' that the ground has to be leveled ... So, I laid them out for her ... Then, I pulled Bermuda grass for the bunnies and trimmed the lower branches on the lemon tree and thinned some of the sucker branches out. Also, sprayed it (homemade, organic) for aphids or whatever the little bugs are. I think I accidentally sprayed a ladybug, too ... :( Then, I put a ring of bricks around the base. Looks much better.
Refilled the hummer feeders, made them all happy.
Working on shredding paper for the hamsters. Two bags done. Want to do one more, I think.
Just made this smoothie for lunch. I only subbed mixed berries for the blackberries since I am out of those. There are a few in the mixed berries, though. Blackberry-Cinnamon Smoothie

October 18, 2014

Another nice, Fall day. It's 74°F. right now. I have the bucks out on the deck for some air. All the cages are clean, floors vacuumed, third load of laundry in the washer. No plumbing problems! Making yummy stuff for lunch. I made up the following smoothie. Very good!
Pumpkin Berry Smoothie
1 cup raw milk
1 banana
2/3 cup pumpkin purée
1 cup frozen berries
1 teaspoon hemp seeds
1 teaspoon raw cacao powder
½ teaspoon maca powder
½ teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon coconut oil
1 teaspoon molasses
1 teaspoon pure maple syrup
Blend until smooth!

And, I also made this: Bacon-Apple Pie Bites
Dinner was pretty good. My mom made up a broccoli dish:
broccoli, bacon, bell pepper strips, onions, red pepper flakes fried in bacon grease. Topped with Cheddar cheese. We had it with Dover sole, along with raw milk with potato starch.

October 17, 2014

Another nice weather day. I love 70s!

I asked neighbor Martin to do the code check on my car this morning for the check engine light. Called Curtis and let him know. I got 2 stores serviced in West Sacramento. Then, went over to Curtis' and he checked out the code online. It's 3 possibilities, all connected to the smog system. It's either the catalytic converter, an O² sensor, or the gas cap not fitting right. He said to just ignore it until next year when it needs to be smogged and he'll fix it then! But, I went ahead and got a new gas cap on the way home. It did need one, anyway. We'll see if the light will go off ... If not, he'll either fix this car, or I'll get the little car back. He still has my other car. He was actually working on it. It had been in his back yard the past year, but it's in the driveway and clean now! He said he just got the parts for it. I actually miss that car. It was my aunt's car (his mom) until she died and then I got it.

My mom says our plumbing has been no trouble the past few days, so I may not have to mess with any of it this weekend! Yay!
So, tomorrow will be the usual cage cleaning and vacuuming. And, hopefully, get some more stuff listed online. More books and some vintage stuff. I might finally get some of my grandmother's religious things listed on eBay and Bonanza and possibly Etsy.
And, I have a couple of recipes I want to try.

I finally finished reading all of the Melanie Travis Mysteries by Laurien Berenson. Such a good series. There is one more book that just came out in August, but I can't get it yet. So, I am going to start the Mrs. Murphy Mysteries by Rita Mae Brown and Sneaky Pie Brown. First up:

October 16, 2014

It's been a busy day, but I got home earlier than I had expected to. I went to the farm for milk, then Arbuckle to service the store up there. Then, the check engine light came back on as I was pulling out of the parking lot ... grrrrrrrrrrr. Stopped at the big produce stand in Dixon then, serviced a store there. Went to the co-op in Davis for bunny greens and other groceries. And, then, home. I need to call Curtis in the morning to have him check the car again. Plus, I have stores to service in West Sacramento  (where he lives) tomorrow, anyway. I need to clip Squint's nails, too. (His elderly cat.)

Other than all that, it's a nice day. 75°F. and some clouds.

And, no flooding of the plumbing so far today. I'm going to do another load of laundry and hope that goes well, too.

In pain. Sometimes, when I'm eating something yummy, I forget I don't have most of my molars left. They crumbled years ago and there's not much left to them ... I bit down on a yummy piece of beef heart and part of an old filling shifted and shooting pain arrived. Knocked it down with a double dose of willow bark (2 capsules rather than my normal 1) and rubbed with tooth gel. Finished dinner just fine (though it didn't taste nearly as good with the tooth gel) ... I cut the meat into smaller pieces and chewed on the other side for a while.

October 15, 2014

Cage cleaning day! It is chilly outside this morning and we had rain overnight. So, the rabbits will not be going on the deck this morning. They'll be running around inside while I clean. They enjoy it, but it's really hard to corral them when their time is up! Especially Sheri ...

Of course, nothing ever goes as planned around here ... damn drains backed up again. Flooded the laundry hall and my bathroom again ... not as badly as previous several times ... I've almost got the line cleared, but I hit my head on the frame of the opening under the house, so I am resting for a few minutes. It's pouring rain right now, too. And, I can't enjoy it! The rabbits are getting restless as they know I should be letting them out about now ... they do like a schedule.

I am beyond tired ... this is not how I planned my day to be. At least I got all the critters cleaned and fed. Robin and Sheriff are out on the deck for some air while I get their plastic and sheet situated the way I want it for under the cages. I moved the doves and Kayla to be along the wall with the big windows and the bucks will be along the smaller side window. I think it will work out better for cleaning inside in the future when the weather is too cold to do their cages out on the deck.

My mom is making me some bacon for lunch! Mmm. I'm starving. Once the bucks are back inside, I'll finish working on the drainage problem. The clog or whatever is at the other end of the trailer near my mom's bathroom or the mainline junction. I so don't want to take that apart today, but I may have to. Nothing else is clearing it. I've blown out the line twice (with the bladder attached to the hose) and there is still something there ...

Well, I broke down and went to the Dollar store and bought some poison for the drain. I really hate using that stuff, but it is getting too late for me to fight with the drain joint at the main line. I've done it before and it takes me several hours to get it apart. So, I'm going to try the poison ... if that doesn't work, I will do the drain joint this weekend. Just won't be able to wash any laundry until then. Grrr. I'll know in a couple hours if this first round of drain poison worked.

The new Criminal Minds tonight was kind of ... odd. Not the type of thing they usually investigate. But, it was good.

I'll know in the morning if I cleared the line enough to do a load of laundry ... But, I think I will have to take the joint apart this weekend anyway, just to be sure nothing is stuck in there ... blech.

So tired. And, I have to drive to Arbuckle in the morning, after I stop at the farm ...

October 14, 2014

It's been a long day! Fall reset projects have started for many of my stores. Did one today that took over 4 hours! When I finally got home this afternoon and checked my mail (my oil check is LATE this month!) I was thrilled that the oil check was finally there! So, I turned around and went to the bank and then shopped for some food we really needed for everyone! And, paid a couple of bills.
Got home in time for dinner. Broiled chicken breast sprinkled with Serrano pepper; sautéed bell pepper strips and onion; fermented veggies; raw broccoli salad; and raw milk with potato starch.
Today was sooo nice. I love the 70s! And, it was cloudy all day. Might rain tomorrow. :)

October 13, 2014

Not in the mood to do anything this morning. Not working today since the office in RI is closed. My mom woke me up before 5 this morning rearranging furniture in the TV Room ... grrrr. My mom wants me to put all the empty bins that aren't being used for the season under the house ... Zihna had no babies. At least it's not windy today ...

Making cookies! Pumpkin Spice Macaroons I only subbed coconut nectar for the honey. I'm out of honey!!!! That has not happened in a long time! Make sure to process until the shredded coconut becomes coconut butter. It will hold together better.
Soooo good. And, really not all that sweet.

Now, I need to go forage for the bunnies lunch and dinner. All out of greens from the co-op, so I'll have to stop there tomorrow.

I finally found a way to drink the barley tea that I can't stand! Use flavored coffee recipes! I made this: Pumpkin Pie Coffee Shake It's not too bad. Sub barley tea for the coffee. Since I don't have a blender and didn't want to use the big food processer for one drink (and the little food processer is too small ...) I put it all in a pint canning jar and shook it until the pumpkin mixed well with the liquids.
I just discovered that we have a Morning Glory vine growing up from the ditch behind us and climbing our fence. I had pulled most of it off, thinking it was the usual Bindweed ... Glad I looked it up!! Toxic to bunnies! Eek. In the garbage it went. They LOVE Bindweed, which has a similar white flower, but smaller with small leaves. I'll let the Morning Glory grow, but I won't harvest it again!

Shredding lots of paper for the hamsters. I like to have a backstock of at least five 8-gallon bags-ful, so I don't have to do it every week.

October 12, 2014

Woke up to wind. Lots of wind. I hate wind ...
All the eggshells I had drying on the deck got blown all over. Found most of the big pieces. Made enough eggshell grit to last the birds a few weeks, anyway. Several hanging plant stands got blown over in the yard.
Had to help the neighbors try to rescue the bunnies. The 2 boys did not survive, but my little girl did (so far.) I guess the wind scared them and they tried to get through the wire of their enclosure. Their windmill (a 6-foot tall metal one) got blown over onto the enclosure, too, which also might have scared them. Then, their nest box (a plastic pet carrier ...) blew over and crushed the boys. The little girl was caught in the wire and Martin cut the wire to get her out. She was a little cold, but now she is with mama and they have them in the house in a smaller cage. So, she may or may not survive ... :(

And, I don't think Zihna is pregnant. She would be due tonight and nothing. :(

And, to top it off ... my oil check did not arrive ... it's late ...

Well, I couldn't get my mom's TV to work with the satellite. Still can't get the remote to co-operate with the receiver ... Geesh, all I did was move the line to another room for the other TV ... stupid satellite. Spent an hour on that damn thing today. So, I hooked up the other digital converter to her TV. Now, just need to get a cheap rabbit ears next week whenever my oil check decides to show up ...
By the end of the year, I'll be cancelling the satellite even though there is still a year left on the damn contract. Yeah, I know ... there will be a big fee for cancelling early ... grrrr.

I got a few things listed online on FaceBook groups I'm in and on Bonanza and eBay. I really need to sell some things. My office is really getting crowded again.

MeTV has some great shows. Watching Black Sheep Squadron now. I LOVED that show when it originally aired. I was hooked on anything about WWII back then. I drew a lot of war-era airplanes at the time, too. I still have them all.
This is one that I made for 7th grade art class. It was some kind of stamping. Can't remember what it was called. The construction paper frame used to be light blue! It sure has discolored over the years ...

October 11, 2014

Well, it's been a hard week. I'm still tired and hurting. Wednesday, we rearranged the rooms (furniture!) again. This time, the Critter Room has changed into the TV Room and all my mom's stuff is in there. The critters have moved into the living room with me and my office/craft room. They have a lot more room. I still have some rearranging of critters that I will move today. Changing cages so they have more room. I bought another used bird cage as #1 needs a bigger cage ... I am still waiting for my oil check so I can finish getting the parts for the flight cage. Then, I'll be able to eliminate the bird cages and probably sell them.

Anyway, because we have the stupid satellite for the TVs now, I had to crawl under the house numerous times to move the line to the other room. I also had to drill a bigger hole in the floor for the line ... it was a pain in the butt! Then, it took about 2 hours for me to get the damn remote to agree that it really does go to that receiver. I still haven't gotten the other TV (in my mom's bedroom) to work again. So, will have to try again this afternoon ... But, I happily have my little TV next to my desk, now, with the rabbit ears. ;) I really didn't like having it in my bedroom. And, I get 19 channels!
I don't think Zihna is pregnant. :( She is due tomorrow and doesn't look like it ... :(

Last night, I discovered that Cassia has odd eyes! I never noticed before. One is light red the other is dark ruby red. Little shit was hard to take a good picture of. She is such a little wiggler.
It's been a long morning! Not totally happy with the way the rabbits are set up, but it will do for now. I still need to put another sheet up behind Robin's cage to protect the wall from pee and so he can't chew the curtains. Kayla is in a big girl cage, now (the old puppy playpen - I bought that 26 years ago, when Quinn and Gemini were puppies - it has really come in handy over the years.)
I can't wait to pull up the damn rug!
Paloma and Dovelet moved to the used cage I bought Thursday. #1 moved into the blue cage they were in, on top.

October 5, 2015

I watched Antenna TV last night. It's an actual channel! Lots of oldies, which are my absolute favorite type of shows to watch. I watched 2 episodes of Burns & Allen and one of Jack Benny (with Bob Hope as the guest!) I need to catch last week's episode of CSI, as I didn't know that they moved the show to Sundays!!!! So, second ep of the season is tonight!

Gotta paint today. I may be getting on the roof to do it as there is no place to lean the ladder safely for the areas that still need painting ... :(

Ugh. I am tired and sore. Still recovering from the long days bike- and bus-riding. Hanging onto a steeply-set ladder did not help this morning. So, I didn't get as much painting done as I had hoped. But, at least I don't have to get on the roof for this part, after all!
I got this done today.
This will be done next weekend.
These two sections I'll have to do from the roof ... :( The ladder is not tall enough ... but, that will have to be a couple weeks from now.
I need to finish making broth (it's been cooking for 2 days ...) Dinner was so filling last night that I'm still not very hungry.

I made this simple syrup (Simple Easy Blueberry Milk) to have later this evening. I saved the blueberries for dinner and mixed with raw cream.

I made these recipes for tonight's dinner. It was so good!
Sweet Garlic Chicken - Thanks to my friend, AnnO, for sharing this one on FB. I subbed whole leg quarters and coconut oil for the breasts and olive oil.
Roasted Squash & Apple Soup This turned out really good. I subbed coconut oil for the olive oil and bone broth for the veggie stock.  And, I topped it with red chili powder and a piece of green onion.

October 4, 2014

When I dropped cable last year and made the big mistake of getting satellite for the TV, I couldn't get all three TVs hooked up due to the extra cost. So, the TV in my bedroom has not been used since then. I finally dug out the old digital converters that we got when the government stole all the radio waves from us. I hooked one of them up and just could not get a signal. Then, I realized I had to have it hooked up to an antenna, too. Bingo! I hooked up our very first antenna - vintage rabbit ears! It is at least 50 years old and it works great! I was really surprised. I figured the wiring would be bad, but I now get about 20 channels! Seriously!
Now, I need to get 2 more little antennas, because once the damn satellite contract is up, I am not renewing or getting cable again. Don't need them. I have 3 computers and I can hook all of the TVs up to them or the external hard drives and watch almost anything I want that way.

Leftover pork steak for dinner. With broccoli/red pepper (can't really see the red peppers ...) topped with mascarpone. And, raw milk with potato starch.
I made a cute birthday card and gifts last week and thought I'd share them now.
They were all a lot of fun to make!

When I cleaned cages earlier today, I moved #1 out of Big Boy and Little Girl's cage. They are on eggs again and #1 is 7 weeks old now. He seems a little behind on growth and is not the perkiest dove I've ever had. But, hopefully, he'll fatten up now that he's on his own. Depending on how he progresses, I'll either sell him or freeze him ... ;) Little Boy and Squabbie's little Doveling is growing well, but I threw the second egg out. I candled it and it was no good.
