February 28, 2015

Bah! It's dreary and cold and I cancelled my bike ride. I just don't feel up to it today ... :(

It has turned out to be a nice day ... I should have went on the bike ride ... :/ but, at least, the critters are all cleaned and fed. And, 2 of the oldest 'baby' doves (Dovelet and #1) have turned out to be male, so are headed to the freezer tomorrow. Doveling has been moved in with Palomar and, hopefully, is a girl. We shall see soon.
Kayla is not 'with bunny', sadly. So, she and Sheriff will be bred again tomorrow. Will be a busy day tomorrow! I have the weekly walk in the afternoon and then craft circle in the evening ...

Now, for a smoothie! Oh, yum! This is what I made so I could use up the buttermilk (my mom won't drink it!): Blueberry & Banana Buttermilk Smoothie I don't use agave, so I subbed coconut nectar.

Just started a double batch of bone broth. We're almost out! Can't have that! Should be done by Tuesday.

Damn. Where has the time gone today!?
I must go to bed! :(

May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. -

February 27, 2015

I just finished making a batch of raw sweet cream butter. And, I got a pint of raw buttermilk, too!

Buttermilk starting to separate from the butter.
Butter, after straining buttermilk through cheesecloth. It is soooo naturally sweet. Nothing added.
Sadly, Little Boy and Squabbie's chick died yesterday and the other egg was no good. So, they are starting over again.

My neck is finally feeling better after nearly a week of hurting.

Huh. I was looking forward to the bike ride tomorrow, but we are supposed to get rain starting tonight and through tomorrow!!! Arrgh. We need rain, but I don't want to miss the ride! Rain Sunday. I don't mind if the walk is cancelled (I really have not enjoyed the walks much as the organizer is not a very friendly person ...)

I keep forgetting to take a picture of the progress of my ginger plants!
Two of them are really tall. One is very slow-growing (you can't even see it in the pic.) And, I'm still not sure what the vine is. Pumpkin? Butternut squash? Who knows!

I finished another puzzle today.

Sad day today. One of the sparks that lit the modern scifi fandom flame died today. Leonard Nimoy's Mr. Spock was such a unique and lasting character. Without him and Star Trek, there would have been no Stargate, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Babylon 5, etc. No one would have been interested. He will be remembered in perpetuity. LLAP.

February 26, 2015

Nice day. Still having some wind ... hate wind ... but, it was a pretty day. And, a nice work drive. Went up to Dunnigan to meet my manager and set up some displays at a store there. Then, down to Winters to service a store. It's still mostly farmland up near those towns, so nice drive.

Had some leftover cream in the fridge that my mom thought was bad. It's raw, so not bad. It just morphed into sour cream. So, I bought some spinach today and made spinach dip when I came home. We had some of it on salad. Sooo good! I used this recipe: Sour Cream Spinach Dip
I didn't have any chives, so used dried onion. I threw everything in the food processor and pulsed until it was the consistency I liked.
Tomorrow, I'll be making raw butter with raw cream. Can't wait! I haven't made any in a while.

February 25, 2015

My neck is still bothering me ...
At least the wind is gone today. It's a pretty day.

I got this cool card from someone in one of the handmade card groups. It's made by ironing a paper napkin on the cardstock, transferring the image. Very colorful.
I got a bunch of cool swaps in the mail, too. Lots of crafting stuff.

Finished another puzzle.

Little Boy and Squabbie hatched an egg this morning. Chick seems a little weak and small. Not sure if the other egg is viable. We'll see if they are OK tomorrow. The chick that Big Boy and Little Girl hatched last week is a moose! :)

February 23, 2015

I woke up with a very sore neck. Must have slept wrong. It still hurts. It's in the area where my vertebra was cracked when I was a kid, so it vexes me at times ...

This wind is just awful. It still hasn't let up much at all! Still near 20mph. Hard driving with it.

February 22, 2015

I had to bail on today's walk ... this cold wind has given me a horrible headache! It's been around 20mph all morning and hasn't let up, yet ... :( I've been out in my yard foraging for the bunnies and it is a cold wind, too.

I spent the morning listening to John Barrowman's radio show and starting a new puzzle. Moving the dvd player and digital antenna to the other side of my mom's room ... and, now she wants me to move the chain/cord for her ceiling fan (I don't want to drill more damn holes in the ceiling!!!) I'm listening to Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express, now.

Huh. Looks like I'm not the only one bailing on the walk today ... 2 more just dropped out.

I hate the taste of feverfew tincture ... but, if it kicks this wannabe migraine, I'll drink it! Damn wind and air pressure ... :/

I still have to go out and forage before it gets dark, for the bunnies' dinner.

And, I have to package up a couple of eBay sales to ship tomorrow.

Finally feeling a bit better. Foraged some greens before it got too dark. Lots of sweet allysum, cleavers, Bermuda grass, henbit, sorrel and a bit of dandelion.

I just finished making this little card for a swap. May be a little late for Valentine's Day this year, but the person can use it next year. The swap was actually for red & gold theme, but this is what I came up with.

February 21, 2015

Busy day. But, fun, for the most part. I went on a bike ride with the MeetUp group. I took a pic when we stopped for a break at Slaven Park.
I took the picture, so I'm not in it. ;) But, my eBike is on the left. :)
The group is getting bigger! There were 9 of us to start today, but one dropped out early on as she only had a one-speed and was getting tired! But, she'll be back next week. We went a bit over 10 miles - about 2 miles more than last week.

Just finished cleaning most of the cages. I'll finish the doves tomorrow. I got only one of them done.

Finished another puzzle. Now, off to bed.

February 19, 2015

It's been very foggy today. A wet fog.

Listening to more audiobooks on the Internet Archive. It's so relaxing listening to these and able to do other things while doing so. Books I'd never have time to actually read.

I mentioned that a picture was taken the other day during the bike ride. It was finally put up on the MeetUp page, so I snagged it. It's the first pic I've had taken (other than a selfie a few years ago to show off a shirt I bought and the usual legal pics for driver's license, etc.) in more than 20 years! So, here it is:
Cindy, Emily, me and ... I can't remember her name!!! I'll fix this after our next ride! You can see part of my eBike in the foreground. That is NOT my tire, though! ;)
Time for some chocolatté and puzzle-making!

February 18, 2015

It's been a busy day. I finally got my oil check, so when I went to the co-op for bunny greens I stopped at the bank and then to the co-op and spent half of it on groceries we needed. Came home and cleaned cages & vacuumed.

I'm listening to audiobooks on the Internet Archive. Right now, it's AA Milne's The Red House Mystery. He wrote more than just Winnie the Pooh stories!

I finished another puzzle last night, but there is a piece missing! I hate that! My mom says it was all there when she made it recently ... so, it's around here somewhere!

The single dove baby is doing really well. It's going to be a solid (strong) bird.

The other pair's clutch has not hatched, yet.

Cassia looks like she will burst any day. Hamster babies coming again soon!

Can't tell if Kayla is pregnant, yet. Bunny watch.

February 16, 2015

I am so sore and tired from crawling around under the house and then going on that long walk yesterday ... and coughing and runny nose ... ugh. But, gotta crawl under the house again in an hour ... I'm going to saw through the middle of the pipe and shove the hose in there both directions ... I WILL find that clog and push through it!

I hope I can get it done before noon ... I have so many other things I want to do today. I have some cards I need to make for swaps and want to get some more things listed for sale online. And, need to get some paperwork sorted for the week.

I did it!!! I finally repaired the clogged drain line after nearly a month! We have a free-flowing kitchen sink again! :)
My back and shoulders are killing me!

It's been a lazy day. Didn't do much other than packaging some sales to mail tomorrow and getting things together for work tomorrow. So tired, but have to wait until after I feed everyone at 8:30. So, I will have some chocolatté and work on my puzzle while I listen to more Agatha Christie audiobooks.

Big Boy and Little Girl's single baby is doing well. The others' haven't hatched theirs', yet.

Sunday, February 15, 2015

February 15, 2015

Big Boy and Little Girl have hatched an egg - it's a single. Looks smaller than usual, so we'll see how it grows. Little Boy and Squabbie are setting two eggs, but they haven't hatched, yet.

I think Cassia will be having hamster babies soon, too. I've given up on Zihna ever getting pregnant. But, that's OK.

ACK! I just can't get rid of this damn cough! And, glad I use handkerchiefs. I would be more broke than I am if I had to buy Kleenex all the time!! Damn allergies. I thought I had them conquered a few years ago. But, the pollen is really bad already this year. Cottonwoods, alders and birch are really high right now and those were always culprits when I was younger ... :/ Plus, I think I am very allergic to my rabbits' hay.

And, my mom is complaining about light bulbs this morning ... she wants me to get 'regular' light bulbs. We still have some fluorescents that I hope to eliminate soon. But, now she is complaining about the LED light bulbs. She says they are flickering like the fluorescent ones ... ugh.

I feel awful right now, but I gotta get under the house and tear the drain pipe apart so I can once and for all get the damn kitchen sink to drain! Tired of having to use the bathroom sinks for everything! I may have to saw through it and replace a section ... not sure yet if the sections 'screw' in or are 'glued' together. The plumbing is so screwy in this place. Wish I had the money to replace it all. I had a quote a few years ago of several thousand just to do the water lines ...

Ugh. I am so sore! Kept hitting my back on the damn floor beams under the house. The pipe is really and truly blocked. In a spot I can't get to with the hose. So, since I am off tomorrow because of the holiday, I will be cutting the pipe! I am so over this. I WILL get this damn clog cleared. In the meantime, I flooded half the kitchen when I tried flushing one section out with the hose. The damn screw lid on the overflow pipe in the kitchen closet blew off! Water and icky stuff everywhere. You would think that would've cleared out the clog! But, noooo.  Took almost an hour to clean the kitchen floor and get all the water soaked up and now have the fan blowing in the closet since the bottom shelf got wet, too.

Just ate scrambled eggs and chorizo for lunch and now to get things ready for my walk and then the craft circle. I should be home by 6. And, I'm going to be nice and bring home dinner from the co-op.

I am so tired! It's been a long day. I went on the walk, then to the craft circle and didn't really enjoy either one today. I stopped at the hardware store on my way home and got the part I'll need to fix the drain pipe after I cut it and clear it tomorrow - holiday, so not working. It is the last resort. I really didn't want to cut the pipe, but no choice as I can't reach the clog with the hose from either end where I can unscrew the pipe or the clean-out.. All the angles are wrong to blow the water pressure through it. I know the section it is in now, though, so will cut that section of pipe. And, I have support wire that I'll be bracing it with to a floor beam above it, so that there will be no odd pressure on the 'join' when I'm done. Don't want it to leak!

So, I am going to make some hot chocolatté and work on my puzzle before feeding everyone and going to bed.

February 14, 2015

OMG! I had so much fun on the bike ride! There were 5 of us this week, but more are joining. I joined the Woodland Bike Campaign, too - we met at their site where they fix and sell bikes. Mine is the first eBike they have seen up close! Next week, I have to remember to bring my camera. But, one of the gals took a pic of us and when I get a copy, I'll post it here. We fixed a tire on one of the bikes. It was flat when she got to the meeting place and one of the volunteers put a tube in for her, but it had a faulty seam, so we had to patch it during the ride. I had the tools and someone else had the patches and several of us had tire pumps! It was a group effort! :) We will be riding every Saturday morning (so I will have to shift my cage cleaning schedule to the afternoon.) Tomorrow is my weekly walk group and then the craft circle in the afternoon. I finally have things to keep me busy on the weekends ... away from home! I highly recommend finding a MeetUp group near you. There are so many, you are bound to find one with your interests! Of course, be cautious and investigate before you commit. Make sure the meetings are in safe, public places, etc.

I need to get some pictures of Dakota, next door. I should have done it a long time ago! But, I want to send one to Connor's new owner.

Now, though, I have to rearrange the shed to put all of the holiday stuff in there as my mom doesn't want it all in her closet anymore. One of the reasons we moved the bike into the house a couple weeks ago ... which is a huge pain lugging that heavy thing up and down stairs ... I preferred it in the shed. Oh, well ...

Got the shed sorted out. Didn't take too long and I found something I had been missing. A little eyebolt that goes to my name sign. I hope to get that hung up soon. I need to paint and seal the sign. It's as old as me and hung above the doorway to the house I grew up in.

I sold a couple things on eBay this morning, so I need to get them packaged to mail on Monday.

I just got pictures of Dakota. Poor thing needs a better cage - he's in a dog crate -, but he'll be moved to his outdoor pen when the weather stays nicer. At least they are bringing him in the house when it is cold. Martin was happy that I found Connor a new home.
Look at my gorgeous green-eyed boy. Ezra thought the bunnies' towels made the best bed. Then, I started folding them and that was too disturbing, so he left!

I just foraged for the rabbits' dinner and now my eyes are itching! Damn pollen is high. The rabbits are getting a lot of cleavers and other yummy 'weeds'. Plenty left to forage for their breakfast in the morning.

It's so nice to be able to go barefoot for most of the day again. It is 74°F right now.

February 13, 2015

Can't sleep ...

I think I'm getting another migraine ... taking feverfew and willow bark ... I have a very busy day today. I have four stores I want to service today and when I get home I need to clean cages. I have a possible buyer for Connor, the bunny I have for sale, who is coming this evening.

Next week will be very busy. I have a new store set-up on Wed. up in Dunnigan and will finally be meeting my manager's boss. Plus, a lot more re-sets to do ...

I finished reading Rita Mae Brown's Sour Puss last night and started Puss 'n Cahoots. And, I'm listening to A Murder is Annouced by Agatha Christie, in the car.

I just want to go back to bed ... ugh. But, it's almost time to get all the critters up and fed ...

Feel awful. Damn head. Still gotta work, though. I am off Monday for the holiday, but the rest of next week is full, so can't put 3 today's stores off. The fourth can wait, though. So, I should be home by 2 and can get the cages cleaned.

This weekend I have 2 MeetUp groups. Tomorrow is a bike ride and Sunday is a walk. Also, Sunday is Craft Circle at the co-op in the afternoon.

Whew. It's been a very hectic day. My stores took longer than planned, of course! And, the traffic in Sacramento was awful coming home. Oh, and the co-op didn't have any greens this morning because they had to spend the morning cutting flowers for Valentine's Day! Luckily, I'm not completely out until tomorrow morning. Anyway, I got home at 5 and immediately started cleaning cages and just finished. The person interested in Connor is supposed to come at 7. So, I may have time to eat dinner!

I sold Connor! She is going to be a little boy's 4H bunny. She will also be a house bunny with several other house bunnies! The lady was really nice and we'll be emailing each other in the future. So, I'll be able to keep in touch with how she is doing. :) She'll be living in Sacramento and will continue with a similar real food diet. They forage for their other bunnies, too!! So cool to meet someone like-minded about raising rabbits!

Happy Birthday to me ... :/
I got a pretty birthday card from someone I don't even know in one of the craft groups I'm in. :)
And, wishes from others. :)

I got all the rabbits cleaned and fed in an hour! The doves and hamsters will get done tomorrow after I get home from work. They are much quicker to do and their cages don't need to be moved around as I clean them.

Listening to Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None today.

Have you heard that after 55 years, Harper Lee is releasing the sequel to To Kill A Mockingbird?! Amazing.

I'm going to have some chocolate colostrum smoothie for lunch. So yummy!

I need to package up some VHS sales to mail out Thursday.

Just received some more birthday cards, including this cute one from someone else in the craft group:
And, cards from my two best friends and their families:
And, I got lavender seeds! :)
Thanks so much. <3 p="">
What's it called when you make tea in milk, rather than water? Would that be a tea latté? That is how I've been making my yummy chocolatté mate tea. It is sooooo good. Heating some milk now.

I don't remember if I've shared all the puzzles I've been making, so here they are:
I love those two puzzle-within-a-puzzle 'I Spy' jigsaws. They are fun to do. Wish I had more of those!

February 9, 2015

Decided not to work today. My lungs are really acting up ... never really got over the bronchitis from a couple weeks ago ... :( Just got back from the co-op, though - gotta have bunny greens.

Sheriff did his job this morning. And, Kayla let him! Will breed them again tonight, though. Should have bunnies at the beginning of March!

More stuff added to eBay and Listia. Mostly VHS tapes.

Lunch was a yummy lamb chop and apple slices with raw cream and cinnamon.
I've been listening to Absent in the Spring audiobook all day. It's by Agatha Christie under her other name Mary Westmacott. Such a sad story, but good.

Sheriff and Kayla were a no go tonight. I'll try them again in the morning and then wait and see.

Having chocolate colostrum milk and working on my puzzle before bed.

February 8, 2015

It's raining! Yay!

The MeetUp walk was cancelled for today. Pouring rain. So, I rebuilt one of my mom's little bookcases that was falling apart. I braced the frame with brackets.
Last night, I finished another puzzle.
And, Sheriff and Kayla had their first date. It did not go well. I think she over-whelmed him with her energy and acrobatics! hahaha! He got a hold of her head, once! ;) Will try again later tonight. It may take a few times, since he is nearly 2 (she is 9 months) and it's the first time for both.
Kayla is bigger than she looks in this picture.
I'm having colostrum. Yum.

And, I have a bunch of VHS tapes on eBay! They really do sell on there. I've sold 3 in the past week, so adding more. I also have a bunch I am taking to the thrift store that I doubt will sell on eBay (they were promotional screeners I got years ago when I worked at a media distributor.)

Nothing in life is so exhilarating as to be shot at without result. - Winston Churchill

We watched another episode of Sherlock Holmes from the '50s with dinner tonight. We watched the first episode the other day.

Sheriff is getting closer to figuring things out with Kayla. He got a hold of her head three times! hahaha! Maybe tomorrow he'll get the right end! ;)

Fighting with the kitchen drain ... still ... someday, I will conquer it. Today, I have been soaked and so has the floor ... resorting to more poison right now and need to open the door with the stench of it.

That's better. The rain has let up for a while, but I still don't want to crawl under the house and start tearing pipes apart under there ... :/

At least the cages are clean and the critters are fed and happy. I went to the co-op already and got a few greens. They only had enough to fill one bucket again (3 days in a row ...) ... so, I'll have to go again tomorrow.

Supposed to rain more tomorrow.

Still have not conquered the drain problem! But, I will!!!
Sucks that the rain didn't continue. I could've gone on that bike ride today! But, the group leader cancelled it. We shall see if the walk tomorrow gets cancelled.

February 6, 2015

I've been awake for an hour and couldn't go back to sleep. Doesn't happen too often. Waiting for the rain to start. Storm is supposed to arrive in a couple of hours and last until Monday. We really need the rain, but I dread the high winds.

I had planned to go on a bike ride on Saturday and a walk on Sunday with a couple of the local MeetUp groups that I've joined recently. But, I cancelled due to the storm. I can't risk getting chilled with this lingering cough I still have from the lung infection a couple of weeks ago. I still have a 'catch' in my bronchi and some coughing fits from it.

I have three stores I want to get serviced today in Sacramento. I can't wait to be done with the reset projects for one of the chains. I was SIX hours in one store yesterday because of them. I have two more next week and then those are done. Today should be an easy day, other than the traffic.

My farmer gave me two gallons of colostrum milk FREE yesterday. They are a nice family. I often get free raw butter from them, too!

I bought a new garden hose yesterday. On sale, too. So, I'll be working on that kitchen drain problem this weekend. One way or another, I will conquer it!

I need my oil check now! If I'm very lucky (which I never am ...) it will be in my mailbox right now.

I am so stressed right now. My migraine from the other day is trying to make a comeback ... :(

It is pouring out there! So glad to be off the road. There are crazy people out there!
No oil check and I think my car insurance payment is going to cause an overdraft fee ... :(

I got a few swaps sorted and packaged to mail tomorrow. Luckily, I had enough stamps!

It is really pouring buckets of rain out there. I love the sound on my carport.

All the critters are fed and in bed. And, I am going to work on my puzzle before bed.
Tomorrow will be busy. Cage cleaning and Sheriff & Kayla's first date! :)

Rearranged all the critter cages and they all got playtime out of their cages and also some outside time on the deck for 5 of the rabbits.

Now, I'm still messing with the kitchen drain ... I will conquer this damn thing. But, it may not be today. Damn garden hose sprung a leak, so need to get a new hose tomorrow! But, I finally got the drain outlet plug off and put some baking soda/vinegar down that part of the drain. So, some progress, maybe.

Whew! Finally sorted through all the emails and answered a few. Got some sales and swaps and a very late birthday present packaged to mail tomorrow. Now, for dinner and a movie - The Wolf Man

I'm going to work on my puzzle for a while before the new Criminal Minds episode starts.

February 2-3, 2015

I'm trying to decide whether I want to go to work today. The main office in RI is closed again today due to another snowstorm ... I have 4 stores I had planned to service today ... they are all pretty easy with no special projects ...

Well, decision made ... staying home and taking feverfew. Started getting inkling of a migraine wanting to start. Hope to kick it in the butt before it gets anywhere! :(

Just had to take the batteries from one of the smoke detectors and put in the recharger. Don't have any extras right now. Should be charged by tonight so I can put it back up. We have two others, so no worries.

Listening to more of Stephen Fry's Moab is my Washpot and about to start working on my puzzle. Headache is still trying to push through. So, I've made a concoction to drink - hot water with 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon honey, ¼ teaspoon cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon turmeric and a pinch of black pepper. It's not bad!

Well, I had an abrupt end to the internet, yesterday. Lost it at about 1:30pm. But, It's back now! So, all's good!
Trying to get caught up on my emails and medias!

My migraine was really bad yesterday afternoon and last night, so it wasn't so bad that I couldn't surf the 'net. I rested most of the day. It finally went away completely around noon today. But, I had to work this morning with my manager. She told me to go home, but I finished the two stores we planned to do. By then, it was gone and I went on to pay bills, get my internet turned back on (!), and go to the co-op. I had lunch there and then went to the park before coming home.

My mom and I watched The Great Race for our dinner movie tonight. I've always loved that movie. Fun-packed!

February 1, 2015

Everybody is up and fed, critter-wise. So, they are happy. It's kind of cold (40°F) and a bit foggy this morning. Hope it warms up for this afternoon's walk! I need to find my little backpack, so I can take my water jugs and some handkerchiefs ... and, carry my moccasins if I decide to walk barefoot.

I'm making this simple Butternut Squash Soup. I'll have some before I go on my walk at 2, and maybe after I get back from the craft circle tonight. It sure smells good!

WooHoo! My friend, Liliana, found a radio station I could get to listen to John Barrowman's Magic radio show!!!! He started it a few weeks ago, but I couldn't find anywhere to listen to it on a desktop. Wish I could find the previous episodes, though! It is fun and decent music choices. I'd love to download all the episodes to listen to again, too ...

I'm having some soup and a slice of PUC creamy cinnamon cheese for lunch. I found my backpack and put my phone, camera and eReader in it. Need to grab the hankies and fill up the water jugs and I'll be good to go. I'm leaving in about 90 minutes.

I decided to take my quilling kit to the craft circle again. I'm going to add some butterflies to the flower I made last time. I'm making a birthday card. It'll be finished out with ink stamping before I send it.

That was an interesting time away from home. The gal that started the walking group was nice. We walked about 2 miles, so it was a good workout. I might have a couple of blisters on my feet, but not bad. After the walk, I went on to the co-op and got greens for the bunnies and read for about 30 minutes before the other crafters arrived. I finished the card I was making and will be sending it out tomorrow. It turned out kind of cute. :)

Listened to Stephen Fry's Moab is my Washpot while I worked on my puzzle. I'm only on Part 2 ... there are 16 parts, so I may put it on a USB to listen to it in my car this week.

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.
