September 30, 2015

I've been having intermittent internet connection problems this past week. I think my router is about done. Luckily, my cousin gave me a modem/router combo and I just need to stop being lazy and get it hooked up and call the cable company to get it working. Just don't feel like it ...

Cages are clean for the day. The rabbits are all out on the deck (in their cages) right now. I'll bring them in after lunch and take pics of the baby bunnies. I took pics on Sunday, but never got around to post them, so here they are:
It's raining! Just brought everyone back in the house.
The bunnies are 4 weeks old tomorrow.
I've decided to get a few chickens next spring. Neighbor Martin has 3 and no one has complained about them. He said there is a space up near the front of the park (near the office!) that has about 20 of them & has had them for quite a while! So, I'm going to get a couple of small hens for eggs, but I am also going to get an incubator and grow out chicks for meat.

I'm actually chilly today. It's only 65°F today. Nice. I'm still barefoot, though! ;)

Bummer. The sun came out. No more rain.

Well, I think I am going to have some hot chocolate, rather than my usual cold chocolate milk I have every night.

Hopefully, my new starter will arrive for my car tomorrow so my cousin can fix my car. I'm still driving my old car that had been sitting in his yard the past year ... clunker ...

Aw, crap! I missed the first episode of Season 11 of Criminal Minds! I'll have to watch it online tomorrow at the CBS website ... ugh.

September 20, 2015

Yesterday was not the best day. And, today is just 'eh' ...
I had to go under the house and clear the kitchen drain pipes again. It's good that I made the new access into the line the last time this happened. It was fairly quick to get it cleared this time - about an hour, rather than several days ... and, I just finished cleaning cages and made a smoothie for lunch. So, not too bad, time-wise, getting all that done. I'm not going on my weekly walk in the park, though ... I still have several loads of wash to do and make milk kefir and kombucha ...
But, I got pics of the bunnies. They are 17 days old.
Yay! No more nest box!
Life is a very bad novelist. It is chaotic and ludicrous. - Javier Marías

Just made a new batch of raw milk kefir, put a jar of sun tea outside and started a second ferment on two bottles of kombucha (cranberry/vanilla).

Way too hot today to take Patty outside to run around. And, it's supposed to be over 100°F tomorrow ... so, she'll have to wait for her turn on Wednesday.
Time for the last load of laundry to go in the washer.

September 19, 2015

It's been one of those days ... my mom had a tantrum this morning and is hiding in her room ... I have to deal with a frickin' 75-year-old toddler ... :(

So, it's been nice and quiet out here while she's in her room. I got a dotee doll made for a swap - the theme was a fancy button - so I used a vintage leaf button that is tarnished with verdigris.
And, I made this Tomato Basil and Goat Cheese Breakfast Muffins recipe for lunch. It makes 6 and I ate 2.
Like soufflés, they fall when you take them out of the oven.

I started taking the rabbits out for a run in the yard behind the shed yesterday, now that the weather is cooling off a little. Took Robin and Sheriff out yesterday - one-at-a-time. Today was Kayla's turn. She met Lucy, one of neighbor Martin's little dogs.

Well, my mom crawled out of her cave to eat dinner without a word ... We had the rest of the egg muffins I made earlier and Sauerkraut With Bacon And Apples. It wasn't bad. I didn't get a picture, though.

September 16, 2015

Well, I got my old car to use. It's a '96 Toyota Tercel. I'm not used to having no clock and no cruise control! Oh, well. It's only for a couple of weeks. Curtis wants me to get the whole starter - not just the solenoid. So, I'll get that ordered next week. So, hopefully, it will only be until around the 27th that I get the '02 Camry back. Just glad he never sold the Tercel after he gave me the Camry. It's been parked in his yard the past year.

The bunnies are 13 days old and their eyes are open and they had their first 'hop around the floor' play time while I cleaned their mama-Parker's cage and their nest box. Tentative gender ID is 3 girls (first 3 pics) and 3 boys, but I'll be better able to tell next week. They are still so tiny, I need a microscope!

Huge series of earthquakes down in Chile about an hour ago. 7.4, 8.4, 6.5, 7.1, 6.4 and others. And, it caused a tsunami watch for Hawaii, which is still in effect. There was a 15 foot tsunami backwash near the epicenter in Chile. What a mess and so sad.

September 14, 2015

This has been an annoying day. It would have been a great day ... we had some rain and the temps stayed nice - around 80°F! I love this weather! But ... the starter or solenoid is going out in my car!!! Twice today I had to call my cousin to get me going again! Thank goodness he was home! I was able to get 4 stores done, despite the stalls. So, he is going to get my old car running (he never sold it; it's still in his driveway ...) and park this car until he can work on it. So, I'm not working tomorrow ... just waiting for him to decide which would be easier ...

September 13, 2015

I was so busy the past few days that I forgot to post a pic of the most recent craft I made. It was for swap - Ninni in a costume. I like how it turned out, too.
Mummy Ninni!
I am so sore from yesterday's volunteering. But, I have to clean cages today, take pics of the bunnies and then take my weekly walk at 12:30.

Critter cages clean! Most of the bunnies are still out on the deck getting some 'fresh' air since it is still fairly cool. I'll bring them in after I finish my lunch smoothie and then will leave for my walk.
The newest bunnies are now 10 days old and their eyes are nearly open. Several keep hopping out of their nest box and driving Parker nuts! ;) She's a good mama.
Still too small for me to see what their genders are ...
The one I thought might be a lilac is actually blue.
The one I thought was blue and white is actually a tortoiseshell and white.

September 12, 2015

I'm exhausted. But, in a good way. I spent most of the day driving to and from a morning of volunteering. It was fun! I'm a volunteer for Tuleyome - Deep Place Home. It's an environmental group and was instrumental in getting Berryessa Snow Mountain declared a National Monument. Today (in association with The United Way's Day of Caring, and the BLM) we worked at one of the lower picnic sites at Cache Creek Regional Park (which is at one of the central/eastern sections of the monument.) There were a LOT of volunteers and many of them worked on dismantling all of the damaged/aged picnic tables and the cinder block barbecues on a part of the Blue Ridge Trail that is currently closed. Several of us did pick-up of litter around the trails. I filled 2 big bags-ful and also got a bunch of bottles/cans for recycling! Then, an area restaurant (from Davis) catered a barbecue for us! I was stuffed. And, I got to take home some of the leftovers! I also won a prize in the raffle. A really nice leather-covered notebook. Afterwards, I walked down to a section of Cache Creek and soaked my feet in a slow section of rapids.
It sprinkled for a bit when we were setting up.

Peeking out of his hole.

My raffle prize!
This is where I soaked my feet.
You can see how low the water is. This whole section should be under water. The sand starts to the right of the picture.
As I was coming down out of Cache Creek Canyon, the whole area looked smoky. There was no smoke this morning when I went up there. Another fire started at about the same time we were all getting ready to go. It is about 10 miles west of where we were.
It's called the Valley Fire -
Here are some more pics from someone else who volunteered today:

And, here's a group pic of most of us - I'm in the front row with the blue cap and glasses, ... squatting, of course. ;)
