May 30, 2016

It has been a busy week or so, but I don't seem to have accomplished much! Let's see ...
My farmer has milk again! I even got 2 gallons of colostrum! Yay. Both of his cows calved within 48 hours of each other! So great to have raw milk again!
I've started working on the quilt finally. I'll be able to show the pictures of the progress on it in a couple of weeks ... once it is delivered. :) Then, I will start on another one!
I'm down to my last litter of bunnies. Parker's babies are almost 9 weeks old. One girl/5 boys! All the adults are getting a break, possibly until next year.
My mom wants a cockatiel ... :/ I don't ... no one will ever be able to replace Freddie (8/2/1973 - 1982) and I can't take the noise they make ...
I've had some major tooth/jaw pain, but seem to have it under control now. I tried antibiotics (killed my gut critters ...) and don't think they did anything. But, I was taking numerous herbs and other good stuff that may have helped more. Probiotics, colloidal silver, hypericum, belladonna, feverfew, white willow bark, clove oil and a few other things. Still taking all of that, except the antibiotic. Just have a twinge now and then and avoiding chewing back there.
Oldest chick is 15 weeks old. Should start seeing for sure who is rooster and who is hen soon. No one crowing, yet!
Got my mom another NuWave oven ...(she broke the other one last year and been bugging me to get her another one) :/ I also got her a NuWave stovetop thingie. She decided after one use that she didn't like it!!! grrr. Luckily, was able to send it back and get a refund ...
Barbecuing this afternoon. Invited my neighbor. She's bringing some veggies. We're having grilled chicken, sweet potatoes, carrots, onions and salad. Plus, yogurt with blueberry topping. So, I went out to clean the grill and set it up ... but, I can't find my electric charcoal starter!!! Looked everywhere and it is probably right in front of me. But, I need one, so ordered one from Home Depot with some PayPal money and waiting for them to let me know it is ready for pick-up at my local store. Hurry up!! Been waiting an hour ...

Jeeze ... how long does it take to walk 100 feet, pick up an item (I know exactly where it is located!) and walk back 100 feet to the service desk and send an email ... still waiting, Home Depot!
11:30 and still listed as 'being processed'.

Whew. Just got back from Home Depot. The chicken has been marinating for about an hour. Have to get the veggies prepped now.

The grilling is on. My hands smell like onions ...

Well, dinner went fairly well. Burned the chicken skin, but the meat was good. The chicken skin was still edible, too. haha! The sweet potatoes were perfect. And, the carrot and onion dish I made up turned out better than I expected.
This is the recipe I used for the chicken: Chipotle Lime Grilled Chicken I got the flame a bit too high for a while and it blackened the chicken skin ...
The carrots and onions I cooked in my small Dutch oven on the grill. The sweet potatoes were foil-wrapped with lots of butter in the coals.
We also had yogurt with thawed frozen strawberries, raspberries and blueberries mixed in.

May 20, 2016

Well, I have been sick and in pain for the past week - starting last Friday. Intermittently functional. I couldn't work Monday. Started getting things under control Tuesday. Figured things out Wednesday. Got herbs and other medicines Thursday and doing much better today. But, when the pain hits, it is like a harpoon of agony. I want to tear my face off, but that will just make things worse. It is an infection in an old tooth. I've had to deal with this in the past with other teeth. It's been over 10 years, though. The sucky thing is, I had to kill my gut flora ... Once this is resolved, I will have to re-populate them heavily ...

I haven't taken pics of the chickies in a while! Here is a group shot, with Nikky-butt. The 4 younger ones spent the night in the red coop with the older 3 for the first time last night. Of couse, the older ones are being bullies right now, but they will get used to each other.
Still waiting on the zig-zag attachment for my Domestic sewing machine. I was hoping it would come this week, even though the estimate is for 5/24 ...

Had a good, soaking rain a little while ago. Lasted about 30 minutes and heard some thunder. We ran out and put the chickies up in their coop. They were getting drenched. A little early for their bedtime, but they didn't mind! It's still raining, but not as heavily.

May 15, 2016

I am so exhausted! Rearranged the critter room and put together my two old chrome dog cages/puppy playpen for the doves. Of course, Big Boy and Little Boy immediately started fighting! Ugh! That's why I separated them all years ago. Little Boy has a scarred head because Big Boy can be a real bully. I hope there is room in this set-up for them to find a corner and not have bloodshed again. I don't want to separate them all again. I want to sell all the other bird cages. They all have a lot more room in this arrangement, but the cages take up less room than the individual cages.
So far, no one has figured out they can go into the upper cage.

I also separated Parker and her one girl bunny. Five boy bunnies are on their own.

Got another craft listing up on eBay for
Item picture
Mixed Lot of Papercrafting Supplies and Book

Hope these sell! That's another drawer emptied to make room for fabric! haha!

Well, I had another bird ... at least, temporarily. I found a little house sparrow when I was putting the chickens to bed. He was cowering under the corner of the air conditioner. Felt very weak and had a dirty butt. I put him in a small cage with food and water. But, he died an hour later. Poor thing. Don't know if it was sick or one of the local stray cats tormented it. Saw no injuries ... Didn't have it near my birds.

May 14, 2016

I sure have been lax on blogging. Just don't seem to be in the mood for it, sometimes.
It's been a really busy few weeks with work and that has really tired me out, that's for sure. So many insane projects with unattainable (almost) end dates. But, I am caught up on them. Which is good, as there will be corporate walk-throughs soon. Hate those, as there is always a rush to make sure everything is 'perfect'. On top of all the projects!

I've been spending far too much money on stuff from the craft stores ... mostly JoAnn's since I get so many great coupons to use - 40, 50, 60% off! But, I have everything (almost!!) to make 3 quilts and a few other things I want to do.

I have to wait on a part for my Domestic machine and get a spool of teal cotton thread (I thought I had one!) before I can continue on the baby quilt I'm making. The part should arrive next week.

Just got finished fixing my fence to block off one of my entrances that we never use, but all delivery men think is the main entrance! They are always coming up the steps and dropping packages on my deck. So, now, they can't even get to the steps! So there! ;) We haven't used that as an entrance the entire time we've lived here.
This is temporary. I will be getting a post to make this more permanent. It's just wired together right now.

I'm finally seriously considering changing my email client! Incredimail has been great over the years, but it is no longer really functional for me. All it does is bounce around and freeze up. Very frustrating. I'm considering Thunderbird (again). I tried Thunderbird a while back, but was so stressed out about some things, that I don't think I gave it a real chance. I'm learning more about it and it might work, after all. I will probably use it if I can figure out an easy way to move all my saved mail ... I just cannot fathom forwarding thousands of emails to put them into the new program. And, I don't want to keep IM installed just to have access to all those old emails ... Might have to, though. Many are work-related and most I refer back to at various times.

Well, I need to start researching some parts for my Singer 99K sewing machine. I need to find out about the wiring harness for the light and the motor; if a hand-crank is an option I can use; it needs a spool pin on top and I need to thread it and test the tension. I'll use a toothpick to hold the spool to do that. I think it needs a new belt, too. It seems a little dry and frayed on the edges. I know it won't take much to get it going, just to get the money to get the parts once I find them. At least the shaft turns and is not froze up, so that's a big plus!!

Oh, goodie! My vintage zig-zag attachment just shipped. Should be here in TEN DAYS ...:/ Hope it gets here sooner!

Butchered a bunny. Have 3 more to do in the next week. Then in a month, the last 6 will go. Then, no more bunnies for quite some time. Going to give all my does a good rest and spoil them and the bucks for a while. I have so much I want to get done this summer and it is a lot of extra work with the critters when there are babies. By the end of summer, I'll also have 4 chickens to butcher or sell. I'll know which are hens by then and will hopefully have 3 keepers.

All six of the doves will be moving back into one big cage together, tomorrow. I'm going to set the old puppy playpen up for them, again. Will clean up and sell all the individual bird cages. Big Boy, Little Girl and Little Boy are all 6 years old now. Hard to believe! No more dove breeding. The eggs they do lay will all go in the frying pan with the chicken eggs. Squabbie and Doveling are both around 2 years old and Wo-ya is 6 months old.

Well, it's been a long day and I didn't get to the fridge-cleaning, so the science projects can grow for another day!
