Noon
This past week, I finally started painting the carport stairs. It's coming along nicely. I'm working on the gray right now. Covering up the last of the ugly green that used to cover this whole house. The treads will be barn red, like the trim on the house. The metal posts on the stairs will be black.
Had a nice surprise this morning. We finally got recycle bins!!! Someone finally noticed that the park wasn't complying with the law we've had for over 6 years in Woodland ... I've asked the manager many times over the years when we would get them. Now, to get my mom to remember to use it!
Now, if I can get the manager to give me the booklet about the park inspection (supposed to happen next month) that she promised me last week ... I'll have to check again tomorrow at the office. I think my biggest worry is going to be our deck and if it will fail the inspection. It has some rot by the back steps and a warped board, but it is NOT in imminent danger of falling or anything like that ... but, I don't think I'll be able to get to repairing it any time soon ... so, don't know if the inspectors will consider it hazardous ... Luckily, I repaired the steps last year. Plus ... not sure if they will enforce the number of chickens. The limit is supposed to be 3 and I have 6 ... so, I may have to hide 3 in the house for a few days or just take them out to my farmer ... haven't decided, yet.

Damn. Migraine's back ... it was almost gone this morning ...

I forgot to put the flag out for Flag Day ... :/

7:45pm
I'm getting excited. I'm going to the Magnificent 7 Western convention in Old Sacramento in September. One way or another. I just filled out the volunteer application and hope to help out on the Friday and Saturday. If I'm approved as a volunteer, I get in the convention for free! I'd just have to pay for the photo op and the autograph session and whatever else I want to get. But, even if I don't get approved, the tickets are reasonable to get in. I can't wait to meet Anthony Starke and the other guys, too. But, he (as Ezra P. Standish) was my favorite character on the show. I'm so glad they moved the convention from the L.A. area, or I'd never get to go! Now, it's only 20 miles away!!
Hopefully, I can handle the crowds. It's being held during the Old Sacramento Gold Rush Days, at the Railroad Museum. Around 100,000 people go through Old Town during Gold Rush Days! Yikes! And, I need to find out about parking ... I might have to park at my cousin's house in West Sacramento and take a bus over the River ... hmmmm.

In other news ... I've had a migraine most of the day!! Ugh. At least it didn't really hit until I had gotten 2 stores serviced ... and, I'm off on Wednesdays, so it should get cleared up by Thursday.

3pm
I feel so tired right now.
I rode my bike to the farmer's market this morning. Nice ride. I bought a gluten-free brownie, a pint of organic blackberries and 2 bunches of carrots (with tops!) Came home and got the 3 bags of bark poured in the brick box. I need 3 more bags to cover it well. Then, I drilled holes in 6 more of the old 18-gallon bins for my mom and she filled some of them with the 2 bags of garden dirt I bought. Need about 4 more bags of that, I think ...
Mixed up a big batch of dog food, boiled eggs, and started a batch of pork broth.
Fought with my mom's bathtub for a while. Some day, I will get the old parts off of it ... I did get the faucet sawed off today!! Progress. Still have one tap that I can't get loose and can't saw through it or I'll have a flood under the tub. I've been fighting with this damn mess for almost 8 years (off and on ...) Usually, we have to use the garden hose attached to the kitchen sink so she can use the tub, if she doesn't want to use my shower. Pain in the ass ... All the plumbing in this place is a mess and I've replaced so many things, but the tub has really been a bane ... Plus, last week my toilet stopped filling. So, I have to replace the tank innards again (replaced all of it when we moved in 8 years ago.) I've been using a dishpan filled from the sink to flush ... Woodland water has always been horrible and corrodes everything in sight ...

3:45pm
Well, we finally got notice after nearly a year of dread ... the owner of the mobile home park got his wish. The city is allowing part of the rent hike that he wanted ... :( So much for rent control. He got his usual summer rent hike that is effective in July. Now, he's got the additional rent hike that starts in September, PLUS 2 additional months (for July and August!) also due in September. So, I'll have to try to come up with almost $200 extra in September. After that it will be around $50/month more than it should be ... Totally sucks. I have so many bills due at that time (quarterly house insurance, car registration ...) and I had hoped to go to the Magnificent 7 convention in Old Sacramento for Labor Day weekend ... :(
I am not a happy camper ...

6:30pm
I'll be riding my bike to the farmer's market again tomorrow. Bunnies need carrots. And, I might get some cherries, apricots and nectarines. Maybe sweet potatoes, too, if anyone has any.
When I get home, I'll be pouring out 3 big bags of bark nuggets in the big brick box out in front of the house that I finally cleared all the weeds (foxtails!!) out of last week. All the aloe veras and bulbs in there should be happy they are finally being taken care of after a couple years of near-neglect!!
